  1. A tip to start to 2024 (on the third day of said year) is to do something I did by accident. Press the 'mark forum as read' button. You can start reading about pies and McColls as it happens!

    Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Still one of Hollywood's greatest ever achievements on several levels. Has everything you could want from such a psychotically ambitious film - from one of the best short cartoons ever made to being one of the greatest neo-noirs. Ridiculous.

Even more insane when you consider Disney and Warner Bros managed to get round a table and agree that their two main cartoon mascots share screen time. Seems less notable now but at this time? Like Sonic and Mario being in a game together.

    Oh.

Saw Wonka tonight. I was brimming with glee. Just pure, silly happiness. And even if Tomothee Cholomee isn't quite right in the role the sheer flood of cameos and supporting cast washes it along. Can't wait to watch on a lurid technicolor Blu-ray transfer.

Drag Race Season 16 begins on January 5th! There’s a never-ending string of Drag Race shows these days, but for whatever reason, I’m not yet bored of it.

DragCon for me in a couple of weekends' time. It was so good last year, can't wait for this one.

Philadelphia (made me cry a lot)

I watched this for the first time this year and at the risk of a ban, Demme's style really got in the way of me connecting with it. Lots of actors' faces filling the whole frame right up close looking down the lens took me out of it several times. Struggled to enjoy it.

I wish I had a gaming group for TTR Legacy, TTR is my favourite lightweight game.

If you can find a group, pull the trigger. Lots of twists on the OG formula, a neat box per player like Charterstone, unusual scoring and good rubber banding bonuses for losers. Haven't finished it mind so it could go to shit 😂

HHH on the other hand is a delight

This season has been about Love Letter. I'm sure everyone has played it, but it's a simple card game of working out what's been played and what's remaining in the deck to nobble your opponents. Charming.

Made a start on Ticket to Ride legacy and it's a delight. Quick games and fun twists.

Love what Maven's doing on YT. Creating YouTube-style videos tailored to the platform is a great way of doig it when you look at his titles/thumbnails etc, but then the actual content itself I've always found to be an enjoyable watch too.

Yeah he's nailed the formula and really, what he's doing is "shoot interviews" without the interview bit, well made and not hour long baggy rants. And he's so charismatic too.

Strange that you should say that because I tapped out of his last 3 missions early but I love his geoguessr stuff. Maybe I'm the twat.

I'm Team Coconuts too. I find his hikes really boring but quite impressed at his 'this is clearly a cliff track in Belize' stuff. Maybe I've been lucky enough to not bump into his politics.

There are three different settings buttons on the remote, each leading to a different menu

The irony is that they have simultaneously created the best remote of all time and yet refuse to ensure it works with all their tellies.

This one came with the Samsung in the living room. It's amazing. Infrared AND Bluetooth so you don't need to point it at the screen, incredibly simple, intuitive, no shit sponsored butttons.

It doesn't work with the one in the kitchen, which has the monstrosity you usually get.

Aussie restaurateur and TV chef Bill Granger aged 54. This is very sad. I was just wondering the other day why he had disappeared from the public eye.

Awful news. A very talented chef with a real passion for easy home cooking. His "Feed Me Now" and "Everyday Asian" are absolutely cracking books full of things just a little different to what you usually have. Completely charismatic and it appears everyone loved him.

  11. @FelatioLips excellent post. Always good to see someone slowly slipping down the slope into full-on coffee nonce. Welcome in! You wait, next Christmas you won't drink anything that doesn't have a roast date and isn't single origin.

Ashley Palmer-Watts is co-founder of Artisan Coffee Co so I'd be surprised if he's helping a competitor, but hey maybe.

I find her A-Z videos are great for putting on in the background, they're not as information heavy as the documentaries but still really well done.

She completed the "wheel of Mega drive" last week, playing all 900-odd on stream (including Greendog).

  13. I played through Inscryption last Christmas and I think it's close to being really great but not quite. The first act in the Cabin is brilliant fun, weirdly meta and atmospheric. The deck builder is serviceable but has a massive exploit in it that can allow you to steamroll the game.

The second two acts are fine, the ARG aspect is the more interesting part. More worth watching a playthrough after act 1.

  14. It seems to have been a great year for releases (pent up COVID backlog would be my guess) but true to form I've played nothing released in 2023 😆 I've played shitloads of Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Streets of Rage 4, Disco Elysium and Symphony of the Night but none of them count. So here I am clogging up the thread unnecessarily anyway.

Looking forward to getting around to the Resi 4 remake and Baldur's Gate 3 myself once they are bargain basement.
