  1. I'm thinking about getting into puro, what tapes should I get?

Probably covered by "If you are new to Japanese wrestling, get Super J Cup 94 because it's an easy to follow tournament format and has lots of people you'll already know. Black Tiger is Eddy Guerrero in a mask. Then get a recent Best of Japan TV (insert month) tape which shows you the different promotions. Toryumon is probably the easiest to get into for a WWE viewer."
  2. i am going to middlesex university, and my bus takes a long time to get there, but it is paid for already so that is a good thing.

hmm, my bus takes a long time to get to university......but it is NOT paid for already.Momi, what do you mean by 'paid for already?'
Get your Daily Mails at the ready, folks.
Birchill's v Momi, 12 rounds to a finish. Right after the break.
  3. If people can leave photos of thenmselves it would help me I know that.

Somebody drag the picture thread back up and put some more pics in. Ebbguy, need a pic of you from the front (for starters. Got another possible one, but will take a bit of doing to get it looking good).
The problem with that thread is that its around 18 pages long, and a lot of it is people arguing over the "UKFF sexiest male" thing :/ It's quite time-consuming wading through all the posts looking for a particular poster.
  4. The big difference is that I don't watch those matches thinking "they are a pile of shit in the ring but I love them", I watch them thinking "it's all great"!!

I was more getting at the subject of this thread: if you analyse Warrior v Hogan by a slide rule consisting of highspots, selling and quality of moves used it was indeed "a pile of shit in the ring". However I watch it and think "bugger me this is fantastic! Absolutely electric!" and those details simply do not matter next to the story and 'idea' of the match. I'm not disputing your points - in fact I'm agreeing with them! - but I suspect somebody seeing the match for the first time today would wonder what all the fuss was about. I think part of watching it for me reminds me of the anticipation for what was the biggest main event for some time! The same could probably be applied to quite a few matches that I find amazing; it was watching it at the time that completed the experience.
  5. There are still very few matches that in mind are better than Hogan v Rock and Hogan v Warrior - matches that have the effect on me are the reason I watch wrestling. These two matches in my mind are in the top 10 greatest ever matches that I have seen, of course Michaels v Undertaker from Badd Blood is in that top 10 as is Nagata v Murakami, Survivor Series 1988 10 tag team match, Midnight Express v Southern Boys, Nagata/Iizuka v Kawada/Fuchi, Doomsday Match and Chamber of Horrors Match - a nice eclectic mix which will no doubt befuddle most - not decided what the 10th match would be, possibilities: Muto v Chono, Nagata v Takayama, Steamboat v Savage - who knows?

These are where my lists come from; not a generally acknowledged concensus of 'good' matches, but bouts that have connected to me and got me going crazy. I'd pluck Warrior v Hogan out as a prime example: a pile of shit in the ring but such a fantastic story that I can't help but love it. Anything from Survivor Series 89 is treated the same - most of it is all old donkey bollocks but I have such strong nostalgic feelings attached to it (I still have a battered copy taped from Sky One that I watch over and over again) that I get enormous enjoyment when revisiting it.Compare that Jericho v Michaels form WMXIX - I liked the show but this match didn't do anything for me at all. Irritatingly for the sake of discussion I couldn't tell you why, it just wasn't my thing. Yet most people here and particularly on RIM lapped it up - I feel odd because I 'don't get it' but it doesn't force me into liking the match.Contra to this I watched the US title match of Guerrero v Benoit at Vengeance 2003, loved it and thought most people around here would too - turns out I was wrong :/Hell I dunno what you guys like. But I'm happy with my wrestling :)
  6. I'm still amazed that anybody could get Lower Occipital Protubance into one.Anybody know where there's a pic of Ebbguy?

Erm... he used to have about a hundred lying about of him from his webcam. Even his avatar used to be one!And yes, I spent ages thinking of one for LOP - and that was the best I could do :(
  7. In-ring ability to me, as Lambeau put it, its a tricky one. This has sort of evolved into a "ten best wrestlers" instead. The Rock -blah blah six moves of doom. He said it himself that he has pure electricity in the ring. His charisma an dcharacter are emphasised in everything he does, and this really comes across.Kurt Angle - Slag him all you like, that he's repetitive, unoriginal, only does goofy promos... I think he's ace. He has that character down pat, and can show different sides to it. He has a great instinct in the ring. He's not the best of all time, but a superb all-rounder. How many wrestlers wish they had Angle's ten worst matches as their best?Ric Flair - I'm not usually one to bawl about Flair, but quietly I have to admit that few have given like this man. Both competitors always come out on top, regardless of the win, and he doesn't stand still throughout the years.Ted DiBiase - Could have been the WWF's Ric Flair. An impressive worker in the ring with a solid knowledge of where he is at all times.Liger - How can I not include the best Junior of all time? The more matches of his I unearth, the more I am surprised by each one. Innovative, exciting - he gets people crazy for a palm strike, ferchrissakes!Hulk Hogan - Say what you like about the big yellow goon, but he's ridden the crest of wrestling popularity for decades. When he turns it on in the ring I makr like a child and he's given me a lot of good memories over the years.Keiji Muto - It's only been in the last year or two I've been switched on to the man's genius. Able to reinvent himself and waiting for a Shining Wizard is breathtaking.Steve Austin - Always giving 100%, and like Muto the way he adapted his style over the years through age, character and ability is commendable. An absolute star and deservedly so.The Undertaker - "Here comes the flame". I am confident then when the Undertaker steps into the ring, it will be enjoyable. Yes there have been letdowns, but I really dig the brawling style, and I enjoy seeing him at the top of the Smackdown brand.Eddie Guerrero - I feel like a prize prick for not realising how good he is until the past year. Slap me.

  8. I know it's relatively early days for Angle but I still can't get myself to like Bret, so Kurt has to take the nod.I'm going to get screamed down for this, but Bret just exudes bland. I could never get into his character and couldn't wait for his matches to end. I realise I am in a massive minority here, as he clearly has a monstrous legion of fans that generate heroic devotion to this day. Personally, he's not the kind of wrestler I go for. I like my faves to have a little more showmanship. Hence I know I'm going to have a good time when Angle gets onto the screen, ***** match or not.And hell, I've looked forward to dozens of Angle matches. Probably none more so than the Iron Man...Maybe it was the greasy hair, I dunno.
