  1. Miniature torches. Is anyone else amazed by their abilities?

I recently purchased a Nitecore Tiki. It was just under ÂŁ30.

    https://www.nitecore.co.uk/products/nitecore-tiki-gitd---blue.html

It's no bigger than a USB stick, and conveniently clips onto my keys. Yet throws out an incredible amount of light. As I'm usually the last to leave work. I usually lock up the building. Which means carrying out security checks of the football pitch sized warehouse we have. Using this tiny torch I can flood a number of areas with light. Negating the need to turn on the building lights. The Tiki is packed full of features which can all be accessed via a single button. It runs off of a rechargeable battery with onboard charging port.

I had intended to get a bunch of the cheaper models for friends and family. Unfortunately the supplier had a flood and had to suspend sales. Could be some bargains available once they've checked their stock over.

I've seen other similar torches on eBay. Has anyone tried them out? The variety is quite expansive.

  2. Netanyahu has come under attack in the Israeli parliament today. Over his mismanagement of the military action in Gaza. Israel's slaughtering of Palestinians is not being received well by the Israeli people and now politicians are beginning to bring that heat into parliament. Directing it at Netanyahu.

It seems that the Israeli president is pushing for a ceasefire.

Netanyahu doesn't give a shit and has doubled down despite significant losses on the Israeli side. He means to finish the job. He's a Maniac.

Why are Israel also bombing Syria? Why was this Iranian Military Commander in Syria?

Alexi Sayle. Not mincing his words.

Possibly interesting thread on why Israel hasn't been charged as a Genocidal maniacal state. Yet!

  3. Has the US really just held the UN to ransom?

They threatened to use their veto power to derail the UNs call for a ceasefire in Gaza. Resulting in the ceasefire being watered down and protections for civilians being removed. "The leaders of the free world" then abstained from the vote.

Are they intent on out heeling everyone?

IOC have now weighed in. The protesting wrestlers had made a commitment to dispose of their medals in the Ganga river. At a reverred location. After intervention from one of the supporting groups. The medals were not disposed of, for now. The farmer union which has lent its support to the Wrestlers protest. Has asked for a 5 day stay, from the protesting wrestlers. The intention is to apply political pressure upon the Government and WFI to treat the matter seriously and take action against the head of the WFI.

Plenty of dirty tactics being used by the authorities to suppress and label the protest as having no merit.

There's been some recent developments. It looks like the accused former head of the WFI has been cleared and he's had his buddy promoted to the position that he once held, head of the WFI. This has resulted in at least two of the high profile protesters retiring from competitive wrestling. Bajrang Punia, a prominent male wrestler, has left his Padmashree (Indian medal) In front of the Prime Ministers residence.

    More surrendering of medals.

You’re working on the assumption that the disenfranchised aren’t paying attention. Many of us are disenfranchised because we’ve been paying attention.

I live in a constituency that has one of the biggest majorities in the country. It doesn’t matter if I vote or not as the sitting MP will win regardless.

I'm basing it on the people I know. Someone like @David likely has valid and sensible reasons for his apathy. He's made an effort to explain. I don't fully agree with him. He has explained himself well.

It's people that I'm aware know diddly squat and have zero inclination to change that. Yet still sit there and respond with the can't be bothered crap. Then try to argue using asinine tropes that can be dismantled in milliseconds. These are people I know. Their seemingly unshakable belief in not partaking in the voting process is quite abhorrent.

How can it not matter to people? Why do they not care? It's not as if their doing great by not voting.

    Home Alone/Home Alone 2

For years I've stated the first Home Alone is my favourite Christmas movie but as the years go by and I watch them both back to back, I find myself enjoying 2 more and more. I've also came to the conclusion that Home Alone 2 is only so good if you have watched the first one and I'm of the belief now they're a package deal in order to maximise enjoyment.

Home Alone has a lot of heart and a lot of violence but I think 2 ups the ante on all of it. Macaulay is better in it, the Wet/Sticky bandits take an absolute battering and the pigeon lady is better than Marley. Also Tim Curry puts on a performance and half. While the jokes and traps require you seeing the first one, who watches just Home Alone 2?

Both great films but 2 has me belly laughing once the bandits are in the house.

I watched 2 at the cinema. Before I'd seen 1. I remember asking my mate why Pesci had the door knob imprint on the palm of his hand.

We'd also been to Megazone and had played Virtua Racer in a huge sit down set up.

It's so shit isn't it? Most overhyped film ever, boring as fuck and me and everyone I know didn't even enjoy the one bomb scene. The only thing i enjoyed was florence pugh's tits.

Yeah, that documentary was great  I've heard Jerry Lawler talking about the making of a few times and he really put Jim's nonsense into perspective. Jerry is like "Jim knew me and Andy Kaufman were rivals so he made my life hell on set, Jim needs to understand that me and Andy were friends and working together on everything".

Jim not understanding kayfabe to the person that was actually really there makes me cringe laugh everytime, no wonder Jerry hated him. Jim certainly does come across a bit weird these days but I think he's fascinating and i do hope he acts again.

Any chance that he could be a Marvel villain? The Sonic films aren't that old. I guess he's in a position where he can pick and choose what he wants to do.

Or, if you were a blonde leading lady, something a bit stronger!

Today I Learned that Frankie Muniz of Malcolm In The Middle fame supports Coventry City.

He's also having a little bit of success in stock car racing.

  9. Is it a good thing for someone like Ava Vidal to present not voting as an option? It will just allow dissaffected potential voters an excuse to further divorce themselves from the voting process. I'm constantly amazed at how many people I know that do not make the effort to use their right to vote. I guess they also have the right to not vote.

I recently had a conversation with a friend on his refusal to vote. He chooses to abstain from voting. In the belief that it absolves him from being party to international military action. Such as Iraq and the current Israeli action in Gaza and the middle east.

I often get the reply of "All politicians are the same", "My vote won't make a difference".

What is the best way to counter that attitude?

But you mentioned the “Batshit” ones. If the Tory party isn’t right wing enough for them, the LibDems certainly wouldn’t be. They’d join Reform.

Plus of course a lot of these won’t actually be MPs after the next election so they won’t be bringing votes with them if they defect after losing their seat.

Hmmm. Is further fragmentation and the increase of fringe political groups. Going to spread the voting public a bit thin?

Labour parachuted Claudia Webbe into Leicester East after the Vaz debacle. She's since become an Independent after her conviction for harassment of her love rival. Although she does show up at various local events. Her political savvy in the service of Leicester East has been lacking. She was completely overshadowed by Braverman during the overblown disturbances in Leicester East towards the end of 2022. Bloody Cricket! The weaponization and nationalistic fervour associated with that silly game is bizarre. India have done a very good job of exporting idiocy.

Webbe has presided over a time where the Tories have made considerable gains, at the councillor level, in Leicester East. The Tories were able to take advantage of  incompetence by Labour? They definitely shot themselves in the foot during the last by-election. Leicester East is a predominantly Indian-Asian area. Rishi Sunak is likely to have been quite alluring to many local voters.

Going back to the original point of the Tories shedding members. Is it possible that these rogue elements will shake up matters in other political parties and/or areas. Thus creating opportunities to gain voters.

What makes this all the more astonishing is that she's a serving MP for one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the country. How far are they going to take this whole 'we're just trying to win an election!' bullshit?

She may represent Leicester. But it may as well not exist as far as she is concerned. The much maligned Claudia Webbe does a better job of representing Leicester. Even though she/Labour has managed to allow a number of Tory councillors into what would have previously been very very very safe Labour strongholds.
