  1. Shortorder put what I wanted to say in better terms.

And agreed with Powerbutchi. Only the other day I was thinking of the Shillinger/Beecher storyline which was the central, ongoing feud throughout the whole show; it perfectly captured the escalation of stakes and hatred that pro wrestling is supposed to be, with each character evolving as they trade shots.

  2. Well I clearly didn't mean go they should go so off-the-wall as Chikara (that's obvious) but in terms of the detailed storylines which make are illogically logical, so to speak. I've been told from people who watch Chikara that they stick to consistent story arcs over a year, having different seasons with a different theme or "plotline" that runs through the promotion. Probably not a direction, but more the kind of qualities that WWE ought to return to. There was an anime-style pic that someone had posted here and on reddit which featured a bunch of wrestlers, and it felt 10 times "cooler" than 95% of WWE's creative output. It's hard because we've had the goofy 80s era, and the other end of the spectrum with the adult-orientated Attitude in the 90s. Is it just a case of jumping between the two extremes, or are there other directions to go in?

  3. I was looking at something like Chikara which is very bright and colourful, but with very intricate and inventive storylines, and was wondering if WWE would adopt something similar or in that tone. Not that you would go way over the top with the mystic, sci-fi storylines, but I remember Court Bauer saying that Sci Fi originally wanted WWECW to be wrestling-meets-sci-fi, with Kane, Taker and the Zombie wondering around. I mean, Spongebob, Pokemon, comicbook characters and kiddy stuff in a similar vein is also gobbled up by young adult males, whether ironically or out of some genuine joy they get from it. To some extent, us adults all watch wrestling after so long due to some regression complex probably (but who doesn't wish for simpler times?). I look at something like Saturday Morning Slam and think that it's not widely off the mark in the production choices. Incorporate some anime graphics here and there too if that's still relevant. Cabana was interviewing Chris Sabin a few weeks ago, and it came up that the Machine Guns were like little Japanese, video game characters; doing all this crazy stuff that gets the live and TV crowd excited, with "edgy" haircuts and ring gear.

Just a lot of ideas I've thrown out here and not sure where I was going with it.

  4. Has Okerlund left Vintage Collection? Last week's episode really hinted at him handing the reins over to that woman who's been getting a bit of time on the recap shows, so I wondered if anyone had heard for definite that he was gond and, if so, why?

Is that Renee Young (formerly Renee Paquette) from The Score in Canada? I was wondering what shows she would be put on. Always enjoyed her and thought WWE could have someone like Michelle Beadle, or an attractive female broadcaster who knew their stuff to mix things up a bit from gawky male presenters with terrible humour.

  5.

I'm becoming a fan of this guy more and more. He doesn't need a lot, just stick him in there to get beaten up and then bring him back with these YouTube vids. They're a perfect tie-in to the main show and are enough to make you take a few mins out to watch on YouTube. It's enough, and there's a lot of subtle comedy in his performance that you just don't get in WWE usually. He seems influenced by their version of The Office, which would have been reeeally on the ball a few years ago if WWE tapped into it then, but will do fine now. Just small things like sitting in the chair tickled me.

  6. LAW for roundup of news and listen to Meltzer answer every question posed to him with a 'I DOOOON'T knowwww, maaaaaaaybe?'

Review a Wai, Raw and Impact to listen to the guys dryly rip stuff apart, especially a random PPV from 2003. It's interesting to hear about their lives at the Fight Network or something that's been bothering them in their personal lives, like cinema security or their childhoods as wrestling. There's a lot I used to do or things I used to think before I smartened up, which they mention they did too. What sets them apart from any two arseholes ripping shit apart is that they have a professional credential which makes it tolerable. John's puns are brilliant, or at least when you can see them trying to formulate something clever and it's 1am, and they have work in 6 hours.

AOW with Cabana to get to know someone I never really bothered about, like Cliff Compton or Pat Buck. It's a really great way to find out about what makes someone tick, in an hour. Occasionally Punk will be on too for a bit. Plus, over time you can see how Colt has gone from someone desperate to get into WWE, to someone whose not that bothered about the big two, and just truckin' along. Surprised someone at WWE hasn't suggested doing a podcast, as it's an excellent way to get to know a guy when they don't have much TV time.

MLW radio to hear Konnan tell a story from 1996 where Luger is pissed about not being in a rap video, or Sin Cara pull a gun on Del Rio. You'll get some insight from Court about being a promoter, TV networks and wrestling/MMA or a story from his days on creative where Vince did something batshit insane. Also, to get a roundup of news about drug cartels in Mexico or Konnan completely kill a joke cos he's "gone to Iran".

  7. I've never seen anything involving Lanny Poffo but his Kayfabe Commentaries Shoot and I'm his biggest fan. Awesome dude, both super intense and laid back with wicked humour that comes out of nowhere. Can any one recommend matches/segments/clips of his career?
