Paid Members ReturnOfTheMack Posted February 19, 2007 Paid Members Posted February 19, 2007 Mike Alfonso, better known as Mike Awesome, was found dead on Saturday morning in the Tampa area according to those close to the family. He was 41.More details should be forthcoming today.Mike Awesome was one of the top foreign stars in FMW in Japan, who as a high-flying big man was made ECW champion on two occasions in 1999 and 2000. As champion, he signed with WCW, creating a situation that many feel ended up killing the title as Tazz from WWF was brought back to ECW to win the title, yet at the same time the title was jobbed in WWF.He worked for a few months with WWF after the collapse of WCW, as well as with All Japan, but had not wrestled in some time.from the Observer.Well, RIP big fella. You had the best mullet in the westen wrestling world.
Phil Austin Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Another one....:(This is going to be another one of those years for losing people too soon isn't it.
Awards Moderator Frankie Crisp Posted February 19, 2007 Awards Moderator Posted February 19, 2007 Jesus, another one gone.RIP to you big man.
stylesclash05 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 That's fucking shocked me!!Did he problems with being on the juice and things like that?Or is this totally random?
steamroller Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Observer took the story down, so hopefully its not true?
TezzRexx Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 :| Are you sure, I'm not seeing this anywhere else...If it is true, R.I.P. Can't believe we've lost 2 of the best big guys in the business in just under two months..
Paid Members ReturnOfTheMack Posted February 19, 2007 Author Paid Members Posted February 19, 2007 Observer took the story down, so hopefully its not true?Christ, well heres to hoping its not true and someone fucked up.
Gossy Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Hopefully it's not true. His matches with Spike Dudley & Masato Tanaka were very entertaining. Shame Russo got hold of him in WCW.With the age so many wrestlers are dying, are they considered an OAP in Pro Wrestling terms if they reach 45?
JackFoley Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 You sure? I see nothing on the Observer website.
thefallenangel Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 (edited) I don't want Awesome gone. I'm still living in the belief he'll come back to ECW with Paul Heyman to save it as being only one of the few people who could with Tanaka.I don't care if it's 2007 Tanaka/Awesome would outdraw Lashley/Test any day of the week. Moderators Astro Hollywood Posted February 19, 2007 Moderators Posted February 19, 2007 I think this is like the time Viscera died by running a cat over. The link was taken down about half an hour ago.
