i just saw Wolverine and i thought it was a good fucking night at the cinema. I think people over analyze these types of movie..."so is his jacket indestructible too?", who gives a fuck?? it's a comic book movie.

As for the relating stories to the other movies and whatever, not really bothered. You can kinda look at this as a stand alone piece. Obviously there's a nice little cameo tie-in to the first X-Men film, but continuity and that didn't deter me from enjoying it in any way.

I liked.

Wouldn't mind knowing how Xavier ended up a wheelchair.

And also. Is Wolverine ageless or does he just age slowly? Because based on the opening montage he cannot die of old age or anything else unless (as with everyone) he gets his head lopped off, but then he's made of some fucking crazy ass super metal which I presume make it hard to dismember him.

i browsed around the imdb boards for Wolverine, and i don't think i've ever seen so much hatred for a movie ever. Almost every single topic (and there's a lot of them) is negative.

for a director to even tackle a comic book movie at this point must be a pretty daunting task, the fans are fairly unappreciative and will shit on everything they do (however, im guessing Gavin Hood is laughing all the way to the bank instead of worrying what the nerd-brigade think). It just appears to be an area where if you aim to please a certain element of the fan base, you'll just piss off another. It's a no win situation.

I feel for comic geeks, as it's not so different from being a wrestling geek and getting frustrated with the way wrestling gets treated elsewhere. The thing is, though, that comics are so full of (sometimes really dreadful) ret-conning and there have been so many different explanations of various characters backgrounds, powers and so on that you really can't get too upset about a few changes made to suit a movie version of a character's story. A lack of internal continuity between Wolverine and the X-Men films would bug me - I've not seen Wolverine yet, so I don't know how big a problem it is, if at all - but even then, it's not the end of the world.

I'd be surprised to see another orgins to be honest. This movie has only made $158 million so far with a budget of $150. A Film needs to make 2.5-3 times its budget to be considered a sucess.

You know it's been out less than a week, right? The second part isn't particularly true either.

As shitty as the reviews have been, the opening weekend virtually guarantees there'll be more.

Its not going to make significantly more money until it goes on DVD/blu-ray. Its all about the opening weekend.

Even if it experiences what would be considered a large drop off in revenues (ie 40% a week) it's still going to make $326m by the time it has been out a month. It had a good opening weekend, it's reviews are reasonable, comic book fans don't mean jack shit and it's likely to make a tidy profit.

Don't be an idiot, Krazy. It's not all about the opening weekend and even if it was, the film's already beaten the first two X-Men movies in that stakes which not only guarantees further Origins movies but makes a sequel quite likely.

Anyway, fuck the comic nerds the film has a shit load of problems before you even step into retcon, continuity, anachronism and comic history problems. In short, the film just hugely lacks substance. Okay, so it's a comic book based action movie but does that mean I can't expect more from it? X-Men 2 delivered a deep and multi-layered story and there's absolutely no reason why this film couldn't have done the same. There's no background and very little development given to Gambit, or anyone from Strykers team. No explanation given for so many things and not in the way where you have to work things out for yourself but in the way where you just have to accept that film's so lazily written and structured.

I've already mentioned that lack of depth was my main problem with the film from when I watched the workprint and since then the lack of character development has become something that's really narked me. Not the continuity problems because, you know what, fuck that geeky crap just give me a movie that doesn't annoy me by being a lazy cash-in portraying itself as something far more complex. Jackman says he has so much invested in the character and the series yet seemed more than happy to deliver this.

Bring Singer back on board. He's the only one to ever display any amount of real intelligence when handling the subject matter.

Anyway, we watched Notorious and Alpha Dog yesterday. Notorious is fine for what it is although I doubt it's particularly true to life. Plus it makes out the Biggie was basically the Jesus Christ of hip hop. Really though, I wasn't expecting more and it never promised anything more.

Alpha Dog however was great and far better than I was expecting. Not the happiest film you'll ever see but it's made sure I'll never be put off of watching a film because it's got Justin Timberlake in it. He was great, throughout. Emile Hirsch was as good as ever and Ben Foster puts in his usual slightly unhinged performance. Sharon Stone is also very, very good in it. The movie's very believable and reading up on the case it looks like it's pretty accurate too.

X-Men - budget $75m, opening weekend $54m, four month gross $157m

X-Men 2 - budget $110m, opening weekend $85m, four month gross $214m

X-Men 3 - budget $210m, opening weekend $122m, four month gross $234m

If the movie has made $158 in opening weekend with a budget of $150m I would say another origins movie is guarenteed

Apparently a Wolverine sequel is already being contemplated.

The original plan was for 2 origins movies. Magneto & Wolverine with Wolverine this year and Magneto for 2011. Like someone said, an explanation for how Xavier ended up in the wheelchair would be interesting and I can imagine that could be explained in the Magneto Origins.
