Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 23 Author Paid Members Posted January 23 Yeah that’s fucked. Hopefully he’ll be alright. To the surprise of no-one, Marcel Dorff’s confirmed the fight is off. Quote
Dai Posted January 23 Posted January 23 (edited) When you see stuff like that, they surely can't be THAT far away from dying, don't you think? That's insane when you think about how he's probably only getting paid 16k as well. As for him fighting, wasnt there a bad women's one at some point last year when she collapsed badly backwards, and I'm fairly sure she still fought. Not that I'm an expert, but I assume once he downs a gallon of water then bizarrely he will probably be back to normal and look OK to the commission.  EDIT - Maybe not! Edited January 23 by Dai Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 23 Author Paid Members Posted January 23 (edited) Just read that Figgy and Alex Perez both missed weight as well. Shambles for the first card of the year and the Paramount debut. On a more positive note, here’s a Natalia Silva shaped thread cleanse… Edit - @Dai that previous incident with the woman fighter fainting rang a bell but I couldn’t remember names. Did a bit of digging and the one I think you might be thinking of was in March 2021 and involved Julija Stoliarenko. She fell backwards when weighing in and it looked really bad. Her scheduled fight with Julia Avila was cancelled but they later fought in the June that year. Can’t think of another obvious example. Aspen Ladd had a few howlers on the scales as well but none where she actually passed out, I don’t think. Edited January 23 by wandshogun09 Quote

Quite scary that I thought it was last year when it was nearly five years ago. Not sure what that says about me! Thanks for looking into it. Was completely off on everything I said then too! Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 23 Author Paid Members Posted January 23 Yeah I thought it was a lot more recent myself. Five fucking years! Quote
NeverYield Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Mad turnout at that weigh in Forgot about this event tonight Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted January 24 Paid Members Posted January 24 Nice to see Sky Sports News covering the event and the weigh-in's morning, not sure if i've seen that before. Quote
Kfogg1991 Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I am beyond excited for tonight this card is filth from the very start. I watched the weight ins live and seeing smotherman collapse was absolutely terrifying have you seen the footage of them having to physically carry him off the stage, the fighters are literally nearly fucking killing themselves and the UFC and Dana have had the shit storm about fighter pay and bonuses which he still hasn't addressed and has acted like hes being victimised every time it gets brought up. They have just got a 8 billion dollar deal and there still treating the fighters like shit and have no appreciation for the fighters literally putting there bodies through hell for their pockets.  However tonight we will get our FOURTH British champion when paddy finishes Justin  Also is there a bet for Umar to beat figgy by prison beat down because that weight miss has almost guaranteed he's getting bum rushed Quote
weevil Posted January 24 Posted January 24 If you're williing to wait, this airs on tnt sports on friday night, as seems to be standard for ufc shows that are on ppv live. Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 24 Author Paid Members Posted January 24 The timing on this from the Smotherman weigh in incident…  Quote
NeverYield Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Whilst lots of fighters get it right, same day weigh ins can be carnage for others Not good at all when you see that And just realised I was a day ahead of myself when I posted last night Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 24 Author Paid Members Posted January 24 And this wasn’t even a same day weigh in. The UFC never do that. The mad thing is Smotherman is saying that it wasn’t a bad weight cut, that he doesn’t cut much and he doesn’t know why he passed out. Something was up with him clearly though. And to think he’s probably only on something shit like 10K/10K. The fighter pay thing has reared its head again this week, with Justin Gaethje being very vocal. I’m tired of the whole debate myself. As much as I’d like to see them all get more, the fighters as a whole never seem to wanna take a stand when it matters. There’s only so much fans and media can do to put pressure on the UFC. If the fighters themselves don’t wanna collectively fight for more, what’s the point? Gaethje’s right in what he’s saying though. It all stems from Cormier recently claiming that the new Paramount deal means fighters are getting paid more. Gaethje came right out and said Cormier is chatting shite and that, as the main event of the first Paramount card, he’s not getting a penny more than he was before. Gaethje called him out on it to his face and Cormier was trying to laugh it off and looking awkward as fuck. I was a huge fan of DC as a fighter but he’s nothing more than a company shill at this point. I think the fact Gaethje is bringing it up now though is quite telling. I know he was responding to Cormier so that’s what triggered it. But I’m not sure he’d have been quite as vocal about it if he wasn’t looking for the door anyway. He’s been quite clear he’s not fighting much longer. He’s obviously got to that stage when he thinks ‘fuck it’ and is more willing to talk about fighter pay now. Again though, it’s frustrating because he was one of those ‘company men’ himself earlier in his career. Now he’s realised he should’ve got more when it’s too late. I understand fighters not wanting to rock the boat but they’re so willing to roll over I can’t see it ever changing. A $7.7 BILLION deal and the fighters are still gonna have to beg Dana for scraps. Anyway, fuck all that noise. I’m torn on this Gaethje vs Pimblett fight. Obviously I’d love to see Gaethje chin the prick. But I can’t deny I’d be a bit disappointed if we never got to see Topuria give him a proper hiding and I’m not sure we get there if he loses to Gaethje tonight. Don’t know what to think. I guess I won’t be majorly upset whatever the result. Either way, Paddy’s getting twatted soon. If not tonight then almost certainly in his next fight. Seen some suspiciously staph looking stuff on Gaethje’s neck that’s got a bit of attention this week though. Not good. Hopefully he’s not hindered too much by that. Quote
NeverYield Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Didn't realise they never done same day weigh ins (or totally forgot) Yeah you need to come together as a collective unit if you want to do something about your pay, especially considering the fans cant do a single thing about it, none of the bigwigs give a shit if John,Mark and Dave think fighters should be paid more, the fighters themselves need to start putting their foot down if they want to affect change It is shoddy though some of the purses they get But fighters hold power, I know its a very complicated world of contracts and whatever but I think a collective refusal to fight may have done them good If they'd done it at the right time Seems too far gone now though Quote
