PepperPlunge
Yeah, the problem with pre-paid is that you can't go over. Hotels will want to charge whatever they want. Paid Members JNLister Posted November 24, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted November 24, 2011 Also with pre-paid cards, you've got the problem that many hotels place a hold on it -- they effectively put a reserve on a certain amount so that they know they will get paid if you use a shitload of room service or ring up a massive phone bill. They don't take the money (except for the actual final bill) but it's deducted from your credit limit until the hold is removed. If you're on a pre-paid card, that's bad news. gary v1
Usually only thing to watch for is that although you'll probably get 0% interest for some length of time you still need to pay the minimum repayment each month. King Pitcos
Could one of those pre-paid Mastercards be used on things that require US cards, like US Playstation store and (probably) the WWE network? Or would the registered address thing scupper it?
Glenryck Pilchards
Your best bet is to have a free trial with Experian's Credit Expert (it is free for the first month and then after that there is a monthly charge until you cancel it) and it will tell you what your current credit score is. There is a facility on there which matches deals for your requirements and the likelihood that you would be accepted. Â The most important thing is to make sure your details are up to date. So things like being on the electoral roll on the property that you are living in along with your utility, bank account and phone bills are correctly addressed to your property. If all of that is in check and you haven't been or currently in substantial debt you should be able to attain some form of credit. Â If your credit score is rated good to excellent you should be able to pick up a credit card with 0% interest for a certain period, but this would only be useful to you if you have the intention to pay it off within that set limit. Another option is to get a loan from a "Peer to Peer" lender like Ratesetter. These work similar to the P2P networks in the early 2000's but instead of illegal music and dodgy porn it is a platform for savers to lend money to borrowers. The savers get a higher rate of interest and borrowers get a loan for lower interest rate than they would get at the bank. Win-Win for everyone. I got a loan with Ratesetter for

This is getting off-topic from the thread really, but the WWE Network FAQ on the site says it can be paid via Paypal. Does that mean that it should work with a UK account/card anyway? Paying by Paypal removes the direct connection between the seller and the buyer's card, doesn't it?
PBWFan
sure does, have purchased stuff from the states before using paypal. only thing is they will with-hold funds form your bank account awaiting the payment going through. for example I got something for $200....so my bank suspended

You can insist on only accepting payments where the attached card/bank account is from a particular country, or you can take money from anyone. It all depends how serious they are about restricting it to the US.
