Thats what I was under the impression of as well. Russo didnt like the Seven character, and thought Dustin Rhodes as a bad ass Texan character was where it was at. He was right as well. Rhodes and Jarrett's feud was a highlight of Nitro in late 99. Actually Russo's first run provided a lot of highlights. He was actually making Benoit a star. Benoit was at a character high in late 99. Brilliant he was. Bret Hart was finally looking and performing like someone worth the money they were paying him. Goldberg was a hardcase again (look at his match where he literally beats Sid into stoppage) and the Outsiders were doing the wisecracking duo gimmick that the DX of 2006 did. There were a lot of things to like about late 99 WCW.

Actually I believe Dusty Rhodes might have had a hand in giving his son the Seven gimmick, and then got the sack along with Bischoff and Sully.

I loved WCW in 99. I think Russo should have been left in sole power. When Bischoff came back he fucked it up. It was his idea to put Russo on camera as well. Well according to Russo anyway.

He'd have a hard job, considering Bischoff never came back with much power (he was involved in the production side of it not the storyline process) and lasted about six weeks. Viagra on a Poll, Flair getting is hair shaved and embarrassed every week, The Natural Born Thrillas being shite, the useless women on the show, World Title in A Box Matches, Booker T and Jeff Jarrett winning and losing the World title every week, Goldberg turning heel and then turning face again all were Russo's brain childs. It was Bischoff and Johnny Ace who had to drag it kicking and screaming from the gutter to put on that three month run of excellent Nitros. Bringing back Bischoff was the best thing WCW did post 1998.

mmm dunno I reckon Easy E had more of a say in things than your giving him credit for. Far be it from me to try to figure out who was really running the messiest wrestling company in the world but as I recall they were both in charge (which seems like a receipe for disaster and boy did it ever turn out to be). Also Russo did stay off camera during his first stint in WCW and ratings did improve during that stint.

For the record - I'm not trying to defend Vince Russo, I cant stand the guy and think he's a shit but his original stint from October to December in WCW was fine by me.

He cant have much say sitting at home with his business partner suing them. Bischoff went home and never came back until he tried to buy the company. Bischoff was gone after Bash at the Beach. You cant run a company from home with a cigar in your gob. He came back in January and sacked all of the shit women, put the cruiserweights back on TV and brought back the people who Russo hated like DDP. The difference between Russo's WCW and Bischoff and Ace's WCW was night and day.

No I meant he had more creative say when he came back the first time. The 6 weeks when they worked side by side. That was when Russo suddenly was all over everything and ran the show into the ground with stupidity. The original point was, Russo becoming on screen talent was Bischoff's idea according to him. All I'm saying is, it wasn't until Bischoff came back that this happened. So it could be true.

He was far worse when Bischoff left (if you even believe it was Bischoffs idea). Just say it was Bischoffs idea to put him on TV, it wasnt Bischoffs idea for him to bury Hogan, shave Flairs head or give himself the World title. After those six weeks, Russo was on TV far more than he had been. He was feuding with Goldberg, Booker T, Sting and held the World title. And he lead an nWo style group with Jarrett, Nash and Steiner.

With all due respect that barnet was in DESPERATE need for a cut as it was te same from twenty years straight. Plus im sure he didnt have to pay for it, with going to the barbers would have made his ex wife #1 ten dollars short through the divorce proceddings :)

Yeah it was horrible. Once he was on tv he fucked everything up. But compare the original 3 month run were it was just Russo (off tv) to the second Russo run (on tv with input from Eric Bischoff) and thats your night and day.

I have no idea if it was really EB's idea for Russo to go on camera, Russo never takes blame for anything.

He also claimed the whole Arquette deal was the brain child of your pal Tony S.

Not really. It was the same type of show. Same amount of stripper women, same amount of run ins, same amount of cruiserweight burying. In that sense it was exactly the same as in 2000. Just in 2000, he had no Guerrero, Benoit, Malenko, Saturn, Luger, Hart, Sid, Dustin Rhodes, Scott Hall or DDP on the roster. He didnt have Ed Ferrera on his second run. Bischoff was there for six weeks during Russo's seven month reign in 2000. You cant possibly say "Bischoff fucked it up". Its just incorrect. The FACT is Russo's role was the head writer, Bischoffs role was producer and consultant. If his role was any bigger he wouldnt have walked after six weeks saying it was impossible to work with Russo.

He also claimed the whole Arquette deal was the brain child of your pal Tony S.

Schiavone might also have had an idea for himself to beat Goldberg and end the streak. It wasnt his job to have the final say on it though.

Why did Russo send Lex Luger home? The Total Package shtick was great value, as he proved when he came back that year for the underrated Totally Buff.

Lex went home because Russo wanted Liz to start getting them out a bit more, which lead to arguments between Liz and Luger and Russo. Since Luger always treated his women well, they both went home until Russo got the sacked. At home as he was having sex with Liz (from behind) all he could think about was him and Bagwell taking over the tag team division was Russo got the sack. Months later Totally Buff was born.

That reminded me of the time Hogan atomic dropped Liz during the quality Team Package days, and she spent all the time Hogan held her up trying to cover her knickers with her skirt. Awesome.

Liz was easily her fittest during her Drugs/Luger phase.
