Curb Your Enthusiasm

Curb Your Enthusiasm's eighth season begins tomorrow night, so I thought it'd be fitting to have this thread to discuss it.

I was recommended the show not too long ago by a friend, and I'm a few seasons of in. I really love Larry David's character; a neurotic, ranting asshole who always find himself the worst, most socially awkward situations. However, I do feel that that's also a bit a pitfall; the show does fall into the trap of sometimes very convoluted stories, like the episode "Porno Gil". Nonetheless, I can't argue that the results are always funny.

What are your views on Curb Your Enthusiasm? Love it? Hate it? Looking forward to the new season?

I love it although have fallen behind a little on the seasons. Only things I dislike which I appreciate is apart of Larry David is the Seinfeld references as I never really seen that and don't have an interest in it either. But other than that one of my favourite comedies.

The reaction of disgust when whatsherface tells him he's drinking from her water in one of the earliest episodes is one of my favourite, genuine LOL moments of watching any comedy.

Caught it on More 4 one night, the Bare Midrift episode. Was hooked from there. I bought the entire boxset and it managed to get funnier every season. The bit with Krazee-Eyez Killa where Larry says "I'm your nigger" gets me every time.

I didn't get the Seinfeld stuff until I went and watched all the Seinfelds, but even then after re-watching the whole of the last series, the Seinfeld stuff was rarely funny.

Fantastic comedy, there's something really likeable about the Larry character, he's not really a bad guy, just a bit of a prick like everyone else who often finds himself in situations which extentuate that aspect of his personality. The episode with the doll is absolutely fantastic and the dynamic between the characters of Leon and Larry along with Jeff's wife I really enjoy.

I like the Seinfeld stuff, as I really enjoyed Seinfeld, I never watch Curb till this early year though as I never looked into the fact that it's from Larry David, I always thought it was just another US sitcom that I wouldn't like, but once I found it was from and about Larry David I watched all 7 seasons.

Season 8 should be good, I'm looking forward to the guest stars of Ricky Gervais and Michael J Fox.

I can't stand Curb Your Enthusiasm, I brought the season one box set and threw it in the bin after finishing the third episode. I hated how ridiculously contrived the awkward situations Larry would always find himself in were, the aforementioned third episode (Porno Gil) was one of the worst things I've ever seen; Larry and his wife turn up late because they got lost on the way, the dinner guests were all people Larry had offended earlier in the episode, the host tells a grotesque porn story at the dinner table, the hosts wife is a psychopathic bitch, Larry accidentally leaves his watch behind and has to do "the double goodbye", it was just awful. For all I know every episode after that one could be genius, but I'll never know because I straight-up refuse to have anything to do with it.

That's a shame.

Anyone else love Richard Lewis as a bit part character? He's just a really entertaining and charismatic guy and another who has a hilarious relationship with Larry, love when he buys Larry the signed bat as a present. Fantastic episode

Looks great for his age too. My favourite "cameo" sort of character though is Ted Danson. The one where they're fighting over the shirts is hilarious.

I love Danson in anything, from Cheers to Bored to Death, the guys class. He's another great bit part character, love when Larry buys him the freak book for his birthday aswell and when their fighting over the sandwhich, Curb really does use it's guest stars and bit part characters well, loved the episode with Steve Coogan too.

David Schwimmer and Ben Stiller were good ones too, and Mel Brooks.

You bought a box set of it yet you had never seen it? And you threw it in the bin rather than getting your money back?

Curb is awesome. Does it start in the UK tomorrow night also?
