They are intent on cracking the mainstream but heres an idea for exposure. They hold a Tough enough/world of hurt sort of programme to find a winner. The winner will then get a match on an fwa show and put forward for a tna tryout. Also as a reward for winning they go on a tour of different schools to ply their trade. Learnign in lance storms school, Taz finishing school, team 3d school, Stixx house of pain, NOAH dojo, and mexican lucha school. This could be to try and find a new jericho. On this program you could even film them getting acting lessons etc and get UK stars such as spud, alex shane to make cameos.

If they're as hell-bent on going mainstream as they seem to be, things need to be radically changed. Who honestly pitched the idea of a British Wrestling Council/Coalition in the hope that it would gain them mainstream attention? "UK stars" do not exist. That's one of the many things that needs to be changed. As I said in the other UK thread, everything is just done on such an amateur (backyard) level that it's no wonder that only a madman would green-light a British wrestling show for their station.

He also shoots himself in the foot by saying they then get a TNA try-out. That essentially says, "British wrestling isn't where you want to be, America is the big time and the be all and end all."

That's the problem with the plan. The prize is inevitably shit. A spot on the FWA roster doesn't seem like something that's worth caring about for a viewer, and if the pinnacle of British wrestling is a mere tryout with TNA, it doesn't reflect well on the scene here.

For wrestling to become Mainstream again would take some with good promotional skills and a lot of money. There isnt many in this country that could do that outside maybe Barry Hearn but there aint no reason for anyone to want to promote wrestling. There seems to be alot of people with the dream but not alot of them have success

And the product has got to be something people want to see. You can have the biggest advertising budget in the world, but if no-one wants your product, you're still stuffed.

And that's a great point that people forget. There's not necessarily even a market that wants more wrestling. A couple of WWE shows and a TNA show a year is enough for most people's budgets. Increasing the quality -- and thus costs -- of a Britwres show means increasing the ticket prices, and I don't think there's enough of a fanbase to sustain that.

Mainstream exposure is just one of the many goals the BWC are working towards. Other goals are improving the quality and safety of wrestling training and the content and production values of associated promotions (in an affordable and sustainable way)

One of the big developments it has worked on recently, in conjunction with the FWA and its push for bigger exposure and mainstream sponsorship, is the recognition of professional wrestlers as performers by Equity.

Equity News

This is a huge step in getting wrestlers recognised officially on some level which in turn makes the prospect of attracting sponsorship and arts council funding much more likely.

In the past people have approached both the sports and arts councils for funding and support and generally get sen away as each council claims wrestling should be supported by the over. With the backing of a body like Equity we can now all claim some legitimacy.

It also means that all the support and rights afforded to Equity's performer-members can now be made available to Pro-Wrestlers.

As for the BWC site, the latest round of grading results went up recently with more coming soon.

Things have been quiet on the "Big Announcement" front but on a personal level i'm just enjoying the knowledge that the grass roots work is getting done quietly and efficiently.
