Hey thank you for doing that... I've seen some Stanhope stuff when i was searching for some Bill Hicks stuff on utube. Funny you mention Doug Benson as i watched Superhigh me 2 days ago, Chappelle is well known to me but the others are all new.

Thanks  , perfect way to chill out in the snow...

No problem, I hope you get into a few of those guys. The first track from Stanhope's "Sicko" album is among my favourite ten minutes or so of standup ever, it's a clever idea brilliantly executed.

Re: Kenji, I love Oswalt's standup albums too. His "extended cut", 222 is in a way even funnier than the edited down version.

Im on a spree buying up any stand up dvds I can get that dont include the names Brand or mcintyre, and after watching those clips, im definatly picking up Louis CKs dvd when im next in town.

Patton Oswalts comedy is great, his albums are long time fixtures on my ipod. Another guy im really into though is Lewis Black. Love his stuff.

Brendon Burns needs a purchase, I'd recommend "So I Suppose THIS Is Offensive Now?" over "Sober Not Clean" but in all honesty, they're both great.

Might be a bit difficult to get, but if you get the chance to see Jason Cook, Buy His DVD "My Confessions", he's got one coming soon, "Joy" and both shows are utterly fucking wonderful.

I'm no MMA expert, but I was left with the distinct impression that Wanderlei Silva couldn't have beaten Sakuraba if he hadn't been allowed to stomp on people's heads - that seemed to be all he did.

I didn't think that it merited its own thread though so I thought that I'd stick it here.

I'm off work at the moment, and I have been reading some of Joe's earlier blogs. Joe first stared blogging in April 2000 and there is ten years worth of stuff archived at his site. It doesn't take him long to start growing (or at least gaining confidence) as a writer. I'm reading them in order at the moment. It's interesting. When he first starts blogging he's finished with News Radio but hasn't become involved with Fear Factor yet. It's interesting getting sense of where Joe's life was back then, and he's pretty decent writer.

For instance take this piece, which is the first real piece of good writing on the blog. Prior to this entry the entries read like just another blog. "How's you doing? I'm doing x and y and z". Joe is able to express himself well. He's coherent and he gets grammar and punctuation. His very early entries aren't bad. They are just a little pedestrian. What separates this entry is that it's one of the first one's where Joe is able to give the reader a real sense of time, place, emotion and state of mind.

Oh, Joe's website itself contains lots of NSFW pictures. So, you know, if at work I wouldn't go there.

This entry from 2002 is one of the best I have come across thus far.

It's long.

Once again, Joe's website itself contains lots of NSFW pictures. So, you know, if at work I wouldn't go there.

He's below average as a comedian, I think. Compared to Michael McIntyre he's a fucking genius, of course, but compared to the best comedians operating today in the USA he's like one of the prelim fighters on a UFC show, not so much a headliner.

I think Rogan is great, really refreshing...i watch a lot of comedians, could you recommend me some shows/comedians that make Rogan look pre lim please...

With pleasure. I'll see if I can associate the people with some Youtube clips or suchlike as well.

First up is Doug Stanhope. He's quite similar to Rogan in a lot of respects, just tons better.

(skip to 2:10 when the show starts, some kind soul has put his entire latest DVD on Youtube).

Dave Attell, more drug-based humour from this guy but I also think he's a lot funnier than Rogan.

Louis CK, who I could have picked a million clips by because he's just amazing.

- investigates the Catholic Church

Patton Oswalt, who's doing a lot of acting now but he's really good at standup still.

Zach Galifianakis, off of "The Hangover" but initially loved for standup. He also does these brilliant interview videos:

I really like Nick Swardson, who you may know as the rent boy from Reno 911 but also has a great standup career.

Doug Benson, now more famous for doing "Super High Me". This bit is from Last Comic Standing, but don't judge him for being on it.

That's a fair chunk of comedians I consider to be better than Joe Rogan. There's also Demetri Martin, Dave Chappelle, Michael Ian Black, The Sklar Brothers and Jeffrey Ross but I ran out of energy before searching for clips of those guys.

Thanks for this. I'm definately going to check some of these guys out .
