  1. I would have bet money on Gilbert Melendez and Josh Thomson having had 4 fights. I would have lost that money as I just double checked and it was a trilogy.

Cain had at least 15 fights against JDS and Bigfoot I think.

Nunes really had zero respect for Pena's guard at all did she?. She wasn't squaring her hips off so giving away all kinds of angles for arm bars and triangles. I guess she just had the confidence that she could posture right up out of anything Pena threw up at her which turned out to be the case.

They really let Pena get away with hooking under the glove like a gi and using it to help with her many, many failed attempts at omaplata's and sweeps.

I had one of those "what am I doing with my life?" moments in R4 when Nunes grabbed a front headlock and it seemed like she was thinking about rolling for an anaconda. You could see the blood pouring out of Pena's head and then when they cut to a different angle you could see pools of blood around them. For one brief moment I felt embarrassed to be sitting there with no top on and JUST BLEED written on my torso.

Outside of David finding a new hill to die on...Buffer is proper shite, the number of times its late and I'm barely awake for the main event and trying to get through Buffer's 5 minute long performance just to introduce the fighters is incredibly grating. Another case of Rogan gassing someone up so much they start to believe their own farts smell good.

David is currently coming up with a 5,000 word argument in favour of Bruce Buffers farts

  3. I hate to defend McGregor as I think he is an utter bell end but I don't think its fair to say that he was or is the drizzling shits on the ground.

When have we really seen him have to grapple in UFC?

Max Holloway fight was a lot of grappling and that was a win.

He was forced to grapple with Mendes. Its hard to really get a read on this because it was short notice. He hit a pretty nice escape from a choke but you could either praise him for that or say that it only happened as Chad was gassed. Either way it wasnt drizzling shits grappling.

People are really hung up on the "lmao u tapped out! Conor mctapper m8" thing from the first Diaz fight. I've always felt like he was done before it even hit the ground. He shot for a hail Mary takedown as I guess he felt it was only way to buy time to recover. Obviously did NOT work in his favour but its not like he was just taken down, controlled and submitted with ease.

He got outwrestled and submitted by Khabib but, come on now, who the fuck doesnt? In the pure grappling parts of the fight you could argue he fared better than Poirier and Gaethje and it wouldn't be a wild thing to say at all. His wrestling defence was pretty solid looking.

If you want to go back further, he submitted Dave Hill to win the 145lb belt in CWFC. Hill never really made it to a higher level before calling it quits but he was a good prospect on the UK scene at the time and was primarily a grappler.

  4. Not a good show, at all. This reminded me of the UFC Fight Night in Dublin that ended up being headlined by Paddy Holohan vs Louis Smolka.

I had some people round to watch and felt it was mostly a poor undercard that was barely holding our interest. I felt mildly embarrassed as I had sold them on it being a stacked card with a red hot crowd. Even with decent enough wins I cant imagine many will be dying to see Diakase, Mokaev or Wood any time soon.

    Main card thoughts:

Its kind of amazing how far Paul Craig has got on submission ability alone. There was nothing behind any of his strikes and it seemed his only strategy was to sit to guard. You cant even really call his double leg entries takedown attempts as he wasnt driving through, he wasnt getting any sort of angle and he wasnt even thinking of switching up to a single, high crotch etc. Tactically it doesnt leave him a lot of options because literally all any decent LHW has to do is not let him work off his back and it takes away his only path to victory (i.e dont fight like Krylov last time and happily sit in his guard unloading strikes.) Oezdemir has never shown himself to be a particularly good wrestler or grappler and he was able to do exactly what he needed to win here.

(Makwan Amirkhani actually fought similarly on the undercard except his only hope in hell was grabbing any kind of head and arm choke. )

Has there ever been a more obvious PED user in the sport than Hannah Goldy? Her fucking FACE is muscular. She has the classic enlarged viscera ready to explode out of her ripped stomach look as well. She looks and fights more like a crossfit weirdo than a competent MMA fighter. Shite.

Gus is clearly finished as anything resembling a top fighter. Sad to see considering how close he was able to run Jones and DC at one time. Good finish all the same though.

the Hermannson / Curtis fight was terrible stuff. Embarrassing from Curtis to basically get fed up of being able to do nothing and demand Jack stands right in front of him and lets him get his shit in.

And then to top it all off, the non main event.

As polarising as he is, genuinely felt the only must see thing on the entire show was the Pimblett entrance, finish and promo.

  5. I forgot that this was on at a good time in the UK. I was with my girlfriend visiting my parents at the time when I remembered and I put it on their telly.

Within minutes my dad, who knows NOTHING about MMA hit out with, "what do you think of Paddy the Baddy?". I was fucking baffled because he has never even asked me about any fight/fighter in decades with the exception of the McGregor/Mayweather fight.

He did love the Matt Schnell come from behind win though. Meanwhile my mum and girlfriend both thought that Mudaerji had been killed.

That's a win in Yair's book for me.

And perhaps more importantly than that, it's officially recorded as a win.

From what I can see, its not 100% freak accident but also clearly not your typical submission victory. I suppose that's why there is any debate in the first place. Anyone going too far in either direction is pretty silly imo.

In my view, Ortega did everything that you would be taught in lesson one of defending an armbar from the bottom. He had Yair somewhat stacked, he grabbed his own bicep in a figure four grip, it looked like he was about to try and work the hand from the 'free' arm to behind Yair's knee. Ordinarily you would see guys try to stack their opponent more while also pushing the leg down and getting their elbow above the opponents crotch. You are pretty much out of danger 99 times out of 100 at that point (unless you have a Mir/Sylvia situation).

Watching it back now and it looks like after Ortega grips his own arm, he immediately lets it go again and signals that he is done. There is no real shoulder lock there but Yair was attacking and regardless of technique, Ortega got hurt in the process. That has to go down a win.

  7. Early to mid 90s children's telly was definitely my version of the Monday Night Wars. I had no loyalty to either brand so would be changing channels throughout the afternoon depending on what was on.

The only hard and fast rules I had were:

Absolutely never watch Blue Peter. I would only ever watch CBBC during that slot on a Tuesday and Thursday.

No Newsround unless it was one of the episodes where they would be looking at a soon to be released video game console or something. I remember seeing the N64 controller on there and thinking "What?! There are 3 bits for your hands? How will this work??????????"

I must say I havent thought about Round the Bend in a good 20+ years and the mention of it has my mind spiralling,

  8. Foley strikes me as your typical "I am a nice guy babes, I am not like other men" creep.

The sort of guy you see on this twitter accounts where women post screenshots of truly insane messages from maniacs on dating websites. From "show me your feet mmmmmmm" to "I HOPE YOU FUCKING KILL YOURSELF YOU FUCKING BIIIIIIITCH 😭" at the drop of a hat.

is there any other fighter in MMA that has declined as badly as Bigfoot Silva? you see that kind of thing regular in Boxing but its not so common in MMA.

Chuck Liddell and Renan Barao spring to mind but Bigfoot Silva in on a whole different level of slop, and its across multiple disciplines.

Silva must be the wildest decline ever when you look at how long its dragged on for and also the sheer amount of damage.

Lets take the Fedor win (where he really dominated Fedor) as the high point of his career. That was February of 2011! Right after that he took back to back TKO's to DC and Cain. From memory, DC broke his own hand with a really brutal hammer fist so that cannot have been pleasant. Its been almost all downhill since then except the short run of form where he beat Travis Browne and then upset Overeem.

Since then, in MMA alone, he suffered KO's or TKO's to Cain (again), Arlovski, Mir, Hunt, Struve, Nelson and Minakov. Those are just the relatively high profile ones as he also got battered off of a few others who dont even have Wikipedia entries on various Russian shows. There was also the draw in the first fight with Hunt where he took tremendous punishment then popped for high test.

Outside of that, the Bare Knuckle, Boxing and Kickboxing KO's are starting to pile up now. I havent seen the Gonzago or Verhooven losses but I assume they are pretty fucking brutal?

So in summary we are looking at over a decade of this shite. Very sad that coaches keep taking his money and whoever manages him is out there getting him matched.

Ha, didn't Misawa wrestle at some tiny shit holes when he was over for one of those shows?

He literally wrestled in a tiny little hall in Carluke, Scotland. Probably less than 100 people there with me being one of them.

There was a brief clip of this on NOAHs TV show at the time where you could see Misawa and Ogawa looking very concerned at the terrible shape of the ring.

What a cast of characters on that show. The NOAH lads, Sheamus, Drew McIntyre and...JIM BROWN!

I'm not sure if New Japan flew their talent to the UK for a Friday show and a Sunday show, they'd have their talent sit on their arse on the Saturday as opposed to work/make money.

Its fine. The entire thing is organised by Alex Shane so to split the cost he is sending the lads to work in front of tiny crowds in towns such as Carluke and Kilmarnock.

  12. If you look at the tour statistics for GnR up until the London shows then its quite mental. 30+ song setlists, average set times >3 hours. With their age and standing is there any need for that? Do they need to be doing several songs off of Chinese Democracy? Numerous Covers? Playing songs like Coma? The two terrible new songs?

They could get away with doing 90 minute sets easily. Just playing the obvious ones off of Appetite and UYI. It would surely be a better performance and reduce the chance of Axl exploding mid tour.

I was supposed to go to the Glasgow show but expected it to be cancelled as soon as I heard what happened in London.

  13. The London show in 2019 was really superb.

I am interested to see how this one does as clearly New Japan has fallen off in quite a big way.

I cant see me going this time as things stand but then again I might find it hard to resist closer to the time if its a big show and guys like Shingo, Ishii and Okada are in prominent singles matches.

  14. Had to zone out all commentary after the DDP/Taveres fight. Entire 15 mins of Rogan questioning everything every single thing Du Plessis did meanwhile he was doing monumental damage and winning an unquestionable decision in a hell of a fight.

Huge shock - not everyone needs to fight exactly how Joe Rogan thinks people should fight!

I think at that point WWE had sent her to rehab and thought perhaps it would be good for her recovery to have her around..

If that's true then its some incredible decision making.

GOOD for her recovery to be around the wrestling business lolololololol

Got an OLED Switch as part of my annual post-holiday blues "Take it easy for awhile and nerd out" treatment.

It feels fantastic. The screen's a good deal crisper but the real selling point for me seems to be a more matte grip to the whole thing and the joy cons not wiggling quite as much while slotted in. I've held Mrs. FOOK's on occasion in the past and they jiggle far too much which made the unit feel a bit like a toy. I've gone 31 years without getting into bed with Nintendo other than a brief summer with a Gamecube because I wanted - like everyone else - to play Resi 4 at the time.

I got an OLED model on Friday. I was finally able to justify the upgrade as I won a load of Argos vouchers in a raffle in work.

I have HEROICALLY gifted my 2017 model to my nephew and kept the OLED model for myself which I think everyone will agree was the correct thing to do.

It really is a much, much nicer screen and the build quality in general seems better.

I immediately downloaded the Castlevania and Castlevania Advance collections as the best way to show off new tech is to run decades old games that you have already played multiple times.

The new TMNT games is mega, it absolutely nails its attempt to bring the original coin ops up-to-date whilst feeling very much like they used to all those years ago.

I've only played the first 2 levels so far, but cn't wait to get further into it. Big thumbs up from me, and I suspect it will be all kinds of fun multiplayer.

GamePass really is ace, isn't it?

Played through it with two of my oldest friends and then had a pizza on Saturday afternoon. A lovely, lovely time.

  18. I didnt watch but I did see the clip of the Christian turn. Let me tell you, I was fucking baffled to see Matt Hughes sitting there.

I think his wife and brother both have restraining orders against him.

I think even in a locker room full of pro wrestlers, Matt Hughes would stand out as the most deeply insecure guy there by a mile.
