Sonnen was a good fighter who got opportunities well above his level due to his mic skills. I think that's pretty simple and obvious. For me, his legacy is showing some younger fighters the importance of calling people out, trash talk etc. in getting ahead in your career vs the "i'll fight whoever they put in front of me lol" mob.
Had a very patchy career up until his 2nd /Â star making UFC run. Even that started fairly badly as he was quickly and spectacularly destroyed by Maia. Didn't he use a lat drop and transition immediately into a triangle for the finish? I have vague memories of it being a totally spectacular finish.
Even just ignoring the PED's (on the basis that we just have to assume most people were on them in that era anyway) his best run of form was the Miller, Okami and Marquardt victories in a row. Good fighters but not exactly the sort of wins that make you an all time great.
Was finished by Filho, Silva x 2, Jones, Tito, Fedor, Lyoto and more. I don't think being able to say you fought a who's who and got absolutely battered by the majority is all that great of a claim.

I adore this tweet. He's 100% right and proves it by using an analogy that is 100% wrong. That takes some incredible "talent".
Could be wrong but have you not entirely missed his point? He was meaning that there are ignorant Americans think their football teams are important even though in reality there are many, many better leagues.

Those Ziggler/Kofi stats are unbearably depressing. A decade of matches I cannot fathom anyone having any fond memories of.
I am sure this brought back many a lapsed fan though. Hey guys, remember these mid carders from when the product was shit? Well now they are the main eventers and the product is REALLY shit! Tune in!

Just viewed it. A lot of false finishes but It builds to a satisfying climax.

What's all this about a video surfacing of Ricochet fingering his own farter?
I would not dare search twitter for this.

Lot of very irritating stuff from Khan on the Austin content imo. In one podcast he claimed:
- Double or Nothing was one of the best shows of all time
- Cody and Dustin are one of the best tag teams of all time
- Dustin is one of the best wrestlers of all time
- Cody vs Dustin was one of the best matches of all time
Calm down pal.

That a yank thing? They seem so much less subtle than we are around matters like this. I don't know if suicide is statistically on the rise but anecdotely it seems to be and whenever you see a report on a death with no cause given or suspicion pointed at - that only leaves one conclusion. It's so sad. Can't even begin to imagine.
Biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK
12 suicides per day, apparently.
Very, very sad stuff. A lot more needs to be done than just farting out "its ok to not be ok" tweets every now and again.

Wild that Meltzer has just outright said this was a suicide. I mean it does look that way but I've not seen it reported that way by anyone except from big Dave.

Anyone played Days Gone? I'm loving it at the moment... The moment you meet your first horde...Â
I bought Days Gone despite the lukewarm response and I have to say I thought a lot of the critics were massively unfair on it. It had some technical issues (dodgy framerate, sound didn't synch up with animation giving a badly dubbed movie effect etc.) but the majority were patched within a few days.
As far as big PS4 exclusives go it was obviously going to get compared to God of War, Spider-Man and Uncharted 4 which is a pretty high standard to expect. I thought the game itself was really enjoyable on its own merits. I'm lucky if I get an hour of gaming a few nights per week and I tend to get bored and move on from longer games without completing them.I ended up finishing Days Gone though so that's something.

Looks like Castlevania: Rondo of Blood is on the PC Engine but not yet on the Turbo. I would quite like an official way to play this. This also means it will have PC Engine as well as PC Engine CD games which is pretty cool.
Anyone tried the Mana games out on switch e-shop yet? Thoughts etc?

The best thing about MMA twitter / instagram is Dana White taking the time out of his day to respond to trolls.
My goal is to be called a goof by slaphead Dana for daring to criticise an extremely questionable fight being announced.

As a PS4 and Switch gamer, there are genuinely too many good games coming out between now and the end of the year. With full time work, social life etc. I am lucky if I can finish one game per month.
I really want to get Mario Maker 2, Links Awakening, Death Stranding, Jedi Fallen Order, Doom Eternal, Wolfenstein Youngblood, Pokémon Sword or Shield, Luigis Mansion 3, Astral Chain...and that's just off the top of my head. Impossible for me to play all of these.
Right now I'm playing Devil May Cry 5 and loving it. Plz make every single game using the RE Engine from now on.

Jeff Jarrett has been announced as the special guest ref for James storm v grado I can see a guitar shot across the head of grado coming...
I am sure they have now gone from absolutely plops ticket sales to selling out the Hydro. Great booking, lads.
You can only market towards wretched Glaswegian late 90s manchild mosher types for so long before even they get bored, evidently.

Did anyone catch Jon Jones on the Helwani content on Monday?
What a mess of a man! He came off terribly.
If you downed a pint every time he described the gear in his system as "a pinch of salt in an Olympic sized swimming pool" YOU WOULD BE DEAD.
Also said he doesn't feel bad about the hit and run on the pregnant bird anymore as she received a life changing sum of money for her troubles.

Announced for ROH weekend:
Â

Michael Elgin vs Brodus Clay (WHYYYYYYYYY???????)
Appearance by Booker T
Â
Hyped for the 4 way, couldnt care less about Brodus Clay.
-
Some really, really great matches so far. I'm just as hyped for this as the DGUK double header if not more so!
ROH is the best its been since Gabes heyday right now
-
So far announced:
Â
Lance Storm vs Martin Kirby
Delirious vs Mad Man Manson
ACH vs Mark Andrews
Michael Elgin vs Uhaa Nation
Briscoes vs Team Single
Adam Cole vs Dave Mastiff
Â
Daily announcements are being made on the PCW facebook. Its shaping up nicely!
-
Booked tickets for this earlier as a few guys I am really high on are wrestling. Cannot wait to see O'Reilly (most underrated in the world, I've been saying this for over a year now), Fish, Cedric, Cole and ACH. Briscoes are always great too.
Â
When can we expect some matches for this?
Â
Also whats the likelihood of this Sunday all ROH show? I'm going to book a later train back to Glasgow just in case it does get confirmed I reckon
-
Also dont forget they had Bring Me as support on that tour. Like them or not they are a pretty good draw in their own right.
-
That ranks as among the most embarassing attempts to look hard I've ever seen. Reminded me of a fat bouncer thinking he was the ticket for chucking a weedy and very drunk little geeze out of a club for giving it big licks after a few too many WKDs.
Â
Did he really say he would eff the kid up? I may have misheard that. Unbelivable. What a dosser and a dwad.
-
Just clocked they are advertising Rampage/T-Bone vs mystery team for September 26th show. Might be wishful thinking but the sillhouettes look like Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards to me. Seems The American Wolves will be in the UK around that time for Southside.
Â
Whether thats the match or not it looks like a fun show with London, Kendrick, Freight Train and Ophidian all appearing. American Wolves would take it over the top to great line up territory.
Â
I think I'll head down from Glasgow again after work. Just checked and train is currently only a tenner return!
Â
Get on it any Scottish brothers out there.

Also important to remember that Meltzer was JACKED in his prime and had tremendous curls. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he would have been sandblasting the rats back when the business was still the business.
