  1. Possibly the two best live matches I have ever seen involved a 50 year old.

Minoru Suzuki had just turned 50 about a week before beating Tomohiro Ishii for the British Heavyweight Championship at NJPW Strong Style Evolved Manchester in 2018 in an absolutely outrageous match. His match with Okada at Royal Quest in London the next year was even better.

He's one of those wrestlers who is brilliant on screen but get a whole new appreciation for him if you ever get the chance to see him up close. Such a master.

  2. Finally, finally, finally BY GOD FINALLY got a PS5 on Friday.

The only game I picked up so far is Deathloop which I am really, really enjoying so far. I was worried it would be overly complicated and maybe even a bit repetitive as it initially seems confined to 4 stages. The way it works with the 4 different times of day per stage changes each area drastically though. Plus you are always opening up more and more parts of each area each time you return.

Looks amazing, the actual gameplay is very satisfying, the haptic feedback works so well and the voice acting is excellent.

I can see me finishing it over the next few days and then I am going to attempt to tackle Demon's Souls.

  3. I've seen Metallica many, many times over the years. Full disclosure - I am a bit of a fan boy and have got live bootlegs from probably every tour they have ever done. The only times I've felt Hetfield sounded ropey was some of the 2003/4 Madly in Anger With the World Tour dates and some of the World Magnetic dates. Those were large scale tours though and I think its just a case of his voice not being able to hold up to that schedule.

He's sounded great since they scaled back the touring and had more days off in between dates etc. Some of the vocal performances on the Worldwired tour were brilliant.

Usually its Lars people are moaning about (or Kirk Hammetts hilarious backing vocals).

I went to see Biffy Clyro the other night which was my first gig, I think, since December 2019 when I saw Max and Iggor Cavalera do an early Sepultura material set in a student union. Going from that to 18+ months of nothing to a huge outdoor gig with tens of thousands was a bit jarring. The band were great but I cant deny I felt quite anxious being around that many people again.

The early style days where both fighters were forced to fight only one strict style? It was nothing like the early UFC days, and was more like that white collar boxing pish you see occasionally.

This may shock you...my post was not serious.

What's the closest thing to a Zelda game for the Xbox? I'm sick of playing games that look drab and miserable, I want an adventure game that's bold and colourful and fun to play and look at.

Visually, Immortals: Fenyx Rising takes a lot of cues from Breath of the Wild

  6. Anyone playing Outriders?

I am playing via Game Pass. Bit of an annoying launch as the servers couldn't consistently cope over the weekend so people were constantly being booted and losing a bit of progress. Annoyingly even if you purely want to play it as a single player experience there is no offline mode.

Those hiccups aside, its a pretty fun cover based looter shooter. Story and characters are nothing particularly noteworthy but there are tons of builds to fuck about with in terms of your abilities, armour and weapons. The actual combat is very satisfying and it does look and run great when the servers are working.

Good example of a game I wouldnt be rushing to pay £50+ on launch day but enjoying checking it out via the magic of game pass.

  7. I bought Avengers day one on PS4 and thought the single player campaign was a 5/10 game at best. It tries very hard to be a modern AAA game in the vein of Uncharted, the more recent Tom Raiders, God of War etc. but is nowhere near that level of polish. Even if you wanted to compare it purely to recent-ish superhero games, its not a patch on Spider-Man or any of the Arkham series.

The story isn't interesting, it's very brief, the gameplay is pretty repetitive and on the base model PS4 some of the textures are amazingly bad. I am not a 120fps, 4k tech-obsessed ponce but there were times where I felt like I was looking at an N64 game.

I guess they thought that the license would mean a lot more than it did. Major botch. I would rather play Captain America and the Avengers on the Mega Drive.

On a more positive note, I recently picked up a Series S and 3 months of Game Pass for £1 and its the best £250 I've ever spent. Everything looks so sharp, runs so smooth and loads rapidly.

  8. I picked up a Series S last week and got the 3 months of Game Pass for £1 deal going. What follows is my review of the system and also game pass:

    "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm"

I went from the 360 to the PS4 so there's a lot on there I missed. Already rattled through Gears 5 and the Hivebusters DLC campaign. Got the Master Chief Collection and Halo 5 waiting in the wings as well as The Medium.

  9. Since lockdown started I have gone a bit mental on games and either finished or at least put plenty of time into Shadow of the Colossus, Streets of Rage 4, Doom Eternal, Resident Evil 3, Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part 2, Daemon X Machina and Horizon Chase Turbo.

This is definitely the most gaming I've done since I was a kid.

Anyone got any hype for Ghost of Tsushima?
