  1. My Dad drove mixers (not as exciting as long distance unfortunately!) and I used to go with him a lot.Ā

He was based in Oxford when they were building the mini plant. I used to go with him but have to hide in the footwell at the site as no kids allowed. Look how close the concrete depot (red) and mini plant was (blue). I literally spent all day in the footwell shitting myself that Iā€™d get caughtĀ

  2. @SuperBaconĀ you should watch Shed and Buried or Junk and Disorderly, both presented by Henry Coles (who would be my pick for the Future Carking thread, I will be devastated if anything happens to the goofy git). I think theyā€™re on one of those channels like QuestĀ

Basically they go round finding old motorbikes and other stuff (plates you mention, old petrol cans etc) and restore them to sell on. Itā€™s lovely, lovely TV and I think youā€™ll feel closer to your Grandad when watching. I certainly feel closer to my old man when I watch as he was into old motorbikes / trucks etc too.Ā

  3. One cute thing my Dad did that I only found out about after he died - when I was a teen a DeAgostini magazine came out about rally cars and each month you got a model of a different car with the magazine. One of those things where the first one is 50p and then theyā€™re Ā£20 a week

I bought the first one with pocket money as I thought it was quite cool and as I knew Dad liked rallying it might be something we could enjoy together. However my enthusiasm disappeared pretty quickly and after the second issue I lost all interest.Ā

Fast forward twenty years and I find a box at his house with folders of pristine rally magazines covering the whole run and the models. I guess he was hoping one day Iā€™d mention it again and weā€™d go through them together, but I never did šŸ„ŗ

  4. What a nightmare for the guy, absolute rotten luck.Ā

Hopefully he can spend his recovery at the PC and working with the students there as I think he legit enjoys that.Ā

  5. Who knows what the future holds, there are other NDAs out there (this one with Janel Grant is $3m and thereā€™s another one for over $7m!) and I dread to think what horrifying things could still come out.

I would be surprised if the classic content disappears but never say never. The old tape trading board powerbomb.org might make a comeback!Ā

  6. The match didnā€™t really do much for me honestly but it was cool to see those two together

Another good show and Swerve shone again. Heā€™s the man! Him and Page can feud all year long as far as Iā€™m concerned

Toni Storm may be the best thing in wrestling at the moment, which is something I couldnā€™t imagine saying a while back. Absolutely incredible as Timeless! Iā€™d happily take little segments like this for the next few weeks. Also enjoyed Fritz Lang getting his head kicked off

My other favourite part of AEW is Darby Allin. The way he just jumped out the ring straight to the outside as if itā€™s completely normal. Iā€™m absolutely fascinated by him

  7. Thatā€™s the first hurdle that will never be jumped for sure. But I think when we started comparing potential damage of a WWE universe virgin entering the Rumble for a cheap pop to one of their biggest stars gloating about the competition on the biggest night of the year the discussion was over, weā€™ve all moved on matey.

Iā€™m really looking forward to the show tonight. Owens vs Logan Paul should be good and Iā€™m interested in seeing how Reigns works a four way match. His big matches have got a bit of a formula these days and theyā€™re going to have to mix it up. Then the Rumble, where even a bad one is quite good. Plenty to look forward to, I hope you all enjoy it too

Quick Predictions - Reigns wins, Logan Paul wins, ummm Bayley wins the Womens rumble and fuck it letā€™s say Rocky is last man standing in the mensĀ

Doors open for AEW then šŸ˜

They wonā€™t agree to it, which Iā€™ve said twice now. It would just be a cool thing to do for the fans, and something that would be immediately relegated to the ā€œyeah that was quite fun at the timeā€ part of your memory within hours of the show finishing, and everyone moves on. No need for talent exchange or any other bullshit. A one off surprise Royal Rumble entrant that isnā€™t some schlub from NXT

I mean, just a thought, but if you highlight another companyā€™s wrestler then a chunk of your fan base might start tuning into their show to see that wrestler. They might really like the show overall and start watching their show instead of yours. Just a thought.Ā

Other promotions are doing joint PPVs, I donā€™t think getting chucked out the Royal Rumble after exchanging chops with the Miz is going to have people flocking for the remote. Youā€™ll get a massive pop and it brings a bit of magic back to the Rumble.

Like I said itā€™s not gonna happen but thinking that it could somehow destroy a chunk of your fan base is madĀ

I was sat on my own drinking cider thinking about this as you do

I wonder that if TK wasnā€™t such an argumentative prick the two companies could do something like this. Growing up the excitement of the Rumble was thinking about what surprises you would get but it doesnā€™t feel like that anymore.Ā

Imagine the two companies could agree to let say Hangman have 20 minutes in the Rumble. Whatā€™s the downside for either company really? Like you say it will never happen but it would be incredible for the fansĀ

Yeah there's a reason Disney and others take stuff down all the time. It's not just a free thing where you can put endless amounts of content on there without the cost increasing.

If anything I imagine it'll be like most things on Netflix and a lot of the content will be timed, disappear and then put back again and made a fuss about etc.

Same with places like Amazon and their James Bond movies, or Sky with Harry Potter etc. Hell, even something like McDonalds and their "limited" menu items. It's a very familiar practice now.

Further to Listerā€™s post - part of the reason streaming services remove things like Harry Potter is that when itā€™s re uploaded they can push it and attract new viewers / remind old viewers to watch again. Itā€™s designed in part to make users feel the service is being added to a lot more that it actually is.

With regard to Netflix have they ever removed their own shows / films which wasnā€™t a licensing issue? I canā€™t recall anything but donā€™t pay too much attention to it to be honest

  12. I canā€™t imagine the archive disappears under any circumstances. The streaming companiesĀ are obsessed with content and all the hard work is already done on the existing Network shows. Either Netflix will take it, WWE will keep it or sell it somewhere else. Amazon used to have entire years worth of CHIKARA shows on Prime, Wrestlemania 3 isnā€™t going to be left in the cupboard to rot anytime soonĀ

  13. Those two clocks have absolutely killed me šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

My Uncle had to stop my Grandad from driving a few years back. He caught him driving using the dashcam camera that was attached to the ceiling in the car, rather than, yā€™know, looking out the windscreen. I canā€™t imagine how unsettling that must have been for other drivers, seeing my Grandad cruising along whilst looking upwards

  14. Sometimes, because Iā€™m a spoilt brat, I sit there watching all this great wrestling and start to get a bit bored or mind wanders on to other things. Weā€™ve never had so much good stuff to watch at our fingertips and occasionally Iā€™ll think I should grow up and watch the news or something

But then matches like Joe vs Hook come along and Iā€™m reminded I FUCKING LOVE THIS STUFF!! I was completely and utterly lost in it. The house could have burnt down around me and I wouldnā€™t have known. For ten minutes I was Hook. I was Taz. I was there. It was perfection. Joe might be the GOAT, and as much as I loved seeing him in a poncho I am so pleased heā€™s had this renaissance. Watch this match!!

  15. It's a real interesting one. With the existing relationship between AEW and NJPW it seems that Okada, Ospreay, Mox, Danielson etc can have the best of both worlds, appearing across both companies at various points in the year. So to actually leave NJPW is a big step and makes me think he's WWE bound. I know Ospreay has left NJPW for AEW but he's never been interested in going to Titan Towers has he?Ā

It also leaves NJPW with some work to do on the top of the card. Losing Okada is a massive blow for them now. I'm not close to NJPW at the moment (trying hard to catch up!) but I assumed after watching Wrestle Kingdom that Okada would be the big feud with Naito at the top, probably culminating at next years WK. Where do they go now? By most accounts I've read SANADA wasn't a great champion and looking up and down recent cards I don't know what else they've got.

  16. Me and my daughter are watching Takeshiā€™s Castle at the moment but when thatā€™s done we will give this a spin

I was obsessed with Gladiators when I was a kid! I do wonder if that was the building blocks for me getting into wrestling. Used to get so angry with Wolf that Iā€™d almost be in tears, but then Jet would come out and all would be well

The other thing that kept me engaged was my PE teacher telling us all he was a contestant on it. Every Friday weā€™d be excited to see if Mr Cookson was going to be on TV that weekendā€¦.found out a while back it was all bollocks and he was just taking the piss
