  1. Yep, a grandfather clock to be precise. I'm no expert on the design of these things but I'd imagine it was bit, heavy and packed full of wood and nails. Which then tore right through his flesh as it was slammed across his head. I remember reading he was lucky to get urgent medical attendance or he would have simply bled to death.

  2. Watched Sex Drive tonight.

I was expecting one of those coming of age, teen comedies of the likes of American Pie and Superbad and to some extent that's what I got. But there were a few moments which were pretty heartwarming too going far beyond some cheap laughs. Basically an 18 year old virgin sets off on a trip to shag some hot girl he met on the internet, with his 2 best friends in tow. There were plenty of good laughs and the final culmination of the film is as ridiculous and silly as expected. I certainly enjoyed watching it and so I rank it 7/10.

  3. Okay Richie quick question. My birthday's coming up in about a month and my girlfriend's asked me what present I want from her. I've been thinking this is a perfect opportunity to pick up a new deathmatch tournament! So what would you recommend between Carnage Cup 2012 or IWA MS KOTDM 2009? I've heard you rave about the Carnage Cup so I'm very tempted to give that a try, but at the same time I only need a couple more KOTDMs to complete my collection, and the 2009 one looks like a pretty damn fun show. So what would you recommend, (presuming of course that you've seen KOTDM too).

  4. Fuck Anselmo and the new Down tracks are laughably bad.

Not for the first time, you're completely wrong.

They're awful. Anyway, while they play in Brum i'll be down the road watching Ufomammut who are an infinitely better band within that doomy/sludgey genre. So glad that they are getting noticed as of late.

Ufomammut are absolutely fantastic. Granted, I only know Snailking but it's an incredible piece of work. Got to see them live at Hellfest this year and they met my lofty expectations. Crushing, powerful doom which sounds like the end of the world. For my money, they're certainly better than Down.

  5. Amazing couple of posts there Richie, I love this thread. Danny Havoc's someone I've not seen for a few years. The last times I saw him he was always the young underdog jobber who'd get the absolute fuck kicked out of him by Necro, Toby Klein, Nick Gage etc. Good to see he certainly seems to have blossomed and risen through the deathmatch ranks.

    2 pointless remarks:

    1) Is Havoc Norwegian or something? (I'm referring to his tattoo of the Norwegian flag).

    2) I highly approve of the Cannibal Corpse remark. That's also what went through my head when I first saw that picture before reading your caption!

  6. That's really cool, Vamp. I'll definitely check it out, although I wonder if they'll opt to go as extreme as the first one. Either way though it'll definitely be worth a watch as the announced plot details do sound intriguing.

Anyway last night I watched Girls Gone Dead. It's that comedy slasher film which someone posted about on here a while ago featuring the always amazing Jerry Lawler as a county sheriff. The premise is simple: 6 teen girls spend spring break in a beachside mansion with the hopes of sun, sand, booze and sex...that is of course until they start being killed off one by one by some maniacal monk armed with a warhammer. All these characters are excruciatingly annoying to the point where you can't wait to see them offed but that clearly seems to be the point - the film is a comical parody of slasher films which does lead to some very funny scenes. Other cameos besides Jerry include Beetlejuice and for some amazing reason, Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain as a country western singer (just typing that makes me love this film.) It all comes to a head with this AMAZING little scene.

Warning - Don't watch this if you actually want to watch this movie as it spoils the best bit but it is Jerry Lawler being the absolute fucking man.

So in short, if you're looking for an oscar standard picture, stay away from Girls Gone Dead. But if you like some good, silly, bloody fun to watch with a few cans and a mate, then this is a decent choice. My main ciriticism would be that it goes on a bit too long, and the action takes about half an hour to get started. Still definitely worth a watch. I'd give it 5/10 which is pushed up to a 6 because of THAT Jerry Lawler scene.

Did I mention this features Jerry "The King" Lawler AND Nicko McBrain!???

  7. I watched The House At The Edge Of The Park last night. From the director of Cannibal Holocaust, it's one of those video nasties which was banned by the BBC for years because of its graphic scenes of sexual violence. I thought it was very good, with the star of course being David Hess, who plays the villain. The plot is simple: a couple of lowlifes crash a party of annoying posh people and proceed to hold them hostage while getting their jollies with the girls present. Lots of disturbing sex scenes and a couple of pretty brutal ones of violence ensue and all culminates in a twist that I really never saw coming. Apparently there's a sequel coming out in the very near future which should be interesting. Classic 80s Italian exploitation. I give it 7/10.

  8. I always remember KOTDM 2001 for Peter B Beautiful almost being murdered by Ian Rotten. Insane, brutal shoot beating. Riche I'd recommend you watch IWA Mid South King of the Deathmatches 2003 if you haven't seen it yet. Insanely fun tournament. In fact, I'd love you to eventually do reviews for quite a few IWA Mid South KOTDM tournaments whenever you got the time and willpower. They've always been my favourite tournament of the style for some reason and the 2003 one in particular is just a total blast from start to finish. I really need to check out Carnage Cup.

  9. WHAT!? That's one of my favourite films I've seen recently. I loved the first 2 Harold and Kumar movies and felt this one was a brilliant edition. Of course, it's a christmas movie and watching it outside that time period might take away from it a little but it's a truly hilarious film with some brilliant lines. As someone that loved the first 2, I'd say if you enjoyed the previous films you can't go wrong with this one. I've watched it 3 or 4 times now with different groups of friends and nobody had anything other than praise for it afterwards. So yes steve, if you like the other Harold and Kumar films, definitely check it out.

  10. Anyone know how long Smart Mark Video take to deliver these days? Not ordered from them in years and I'm trying to fight the urge to spend some of my wages on an old Chikara Tag World Grand Prix or King of Trios.

  11. Gonna join in the love for the Ascension. They were superb to watch with a totally awesome vignette and I'm looking forward to finding out more about their characters. Bo Dallas was a cool cat as well. Oh, and Damian Sandow is simply wonderful. I love it when he goes "I ask you to be silent, please" or something similar and how he holds the microphone like a glass of brandy. Brilliant character.

  12. Powerslam is correct to criticise Cena. He is the worst top babyface in pro wrestling history. His wrestling skills are even more limited than Hogan on a bad day, his gimmick is childish and tacky and his personality is one dimensonial. He only became top face because Austin quit due to injuries, the Rock went to hollywood and the one guy they were banking on (Brock Lensar) got fed up of the business. The sooner the already too long "Cena era" is over the better.

Agree with most of this, it's cliche to say but I've not enjoyed Cena since 2004. His entire character makes me cringe. Crazy to think he's been on top for 7 years now. But they've built him up for so long and now we're stuck with him for the time being, and he's the best of a bad bunch as there's nobody to really replace him as the ultra-top dog right now. I've actually got a couple of mates who gave up watching WWE a few years back largely because they couldn't stand seeing John Cena in such a prominent position on a weekly basis, and are tuning in to Mania just to see him get his arse kicked (which shows that the Rock-Cena feud is drawing outside interest I guess). I can certainly accept that outside the ring Cena's a lovely guy though and it's really commendable to see him doing the Make A Wish stuff to the extent he does.

  13. The previous Eden Lake chat inspired me to give it a watch. I really liked it. What an intense and hard-hitting film although by the end I was beginning to chuckle a bit at how awful this woman's luck was. I think it'll have to be a while till I give it another watch, but I definitely will sometime.
