  1. Any fans of Vader on this forum?

I'll be off to see them in Glasgow tonight, and I believe they'll be playing in Leeds and Nottingham over the weekend.

I really wanted to! But turns out my friend's band has their first gig tonight here in Edinburgh so I'd feel like a douche if I didn't go support them. Will be at Obituary next week though for sure. Enjoy Vader ya lucky sod.

  2. Here's one for ya:

History of a Time to Come or Dreamweaver (Reflections of Our Yesterdays) ?

So no one knows what I'm talking about?

Of course. Sabbat are fantastic. I'm actually paying money to see Arch Enemy to see Sabbat and Enslaved. Sabbat have AMAZING lyrics for a thrash band. Such as in "Do Dark Horses Dream of Nightmares?"

And about metal friends: Most of my friends are metalheads. Thanks to uni I now know at least 20 metalheads through there, and more through meetings in clubs. It's good because it means we don't have to put up with the vapid pop shite at parties and so on. Edinburgh's well suited for metal though, with an extreme metal club, a slightly more mainstream metal/rock club and several rock/metal clubs. We're certainly building our own metal scene too with us getting a huge increase in gigs over the past year due to the launch of GBH promotions.

  3. Melechesh are fucking awesome. They tend to be labelled as black metal, but they're not really. They have that raspy vocal style, but there the similarity ends. Catchy death metal heavily influenced by Middle Eastern music - much more so than Nile.

Fucking yes. Fantastic band even though i've only heard one of their albums (Djinn). I saw them live last summer at Hellfest and they were phenomenal, been meaning to buy more of their material.

Anyone into pagan black metal? If so check out Askival. His album, Eternity, has since become one of my favourites of all time and by far my most played on last fm. As a nationalist Scotsman it really resonates me, with its themes of a return to paganism and independence and etc. The music is superb too, amazing it was created by one man. So yeah guys check it out!

Also going through yet another Summoning phase. Nothing beats a bit of Tolkien influenced epic/atmospheric black metal to do a bit of my uni reading to, not to mention sitting alone with a beer being drawn increasingly into the hypnotic and beautiful soundscapes. Another band you should all check out if you like (nerdy) music with soul.

Gig wise, saw Decapitated and Marduk in Glasgow this week and both were great. Decapitated were especially crazy with the whole floor being a mass of circle bits, crowdsurfers and stagedivers. Plus at Marduk, Nemetheanga made an appearance which reduced me to a squealing fanboy. Always been a massive Primordial fan.

  4. anyone on here a fan of Legion Of The Damned? Its a shame they aren't that well known

Very good band. Total retro 80s sound and generally great fun for a bit of drunken headbanging.

Five Finger Cock Wank on the other hand are one of the absolute worst bands I've ever heard in my life.

  5. I've met quite a few famous folk, mostly bands and a couple of wrestlers too. 3 stories particularly leap to mind

First was David Vincent and Trey Azagthoth from Morbid Angel. After the show, a group of us were hanging out by the bus and both guys spent about an hour chatting to anybody and signing autographs and telling stories. Admirable for a band of such high standing at the best of times, but being Scotland it was pouring with rain. I specifically remember Dave telling everyone "If I'm missing anybody out don't be afraid to say." I got my booklet from "Altars of Madness" signed which was awesome. I spoke to Trey more than Vincent though and he was a great guy, incredibly down-to-earth. It was pretty fucking cool hearing stories about Chuck Schuldiner from members of one of the biggest death metal bands in the world.

A couple of months ago I attended a Cannibal Corpse gig, who for some unknown reason were supporting Children of Bodom. I got up the front during Corpse's set and went absolutely nuts and then retired to the bar before Boredom came on. I then ran into my mate who told me that Corpsegrinder was at the merch stand meeting anybody and everybody, so I legged it over there and got to meet the man himself :) I really didn't get to talk to him very long cause Bodom started playing shortly afterwards but he was a top guy. It was pretty fucking commendable for the singer of the biggest death metal band in the world to be hanging out meeting fans like that. Looking forward to seeing the mighty Corpse on Halloween with a proper line up (Dying Fetus supporting makes me a happy camper)

One of my favourite stories was when my ex girlfriend and I went to an Exodus show. We were front row and going nuts and afterwards, a roadie comes up to us and says Rob Dukes wants to meet us! Now most likely it's because he saw my ex (who is smoking hot for the record) and decided he wanted to have a go at her. But we both go into the Exodus dressing room and the whole band are cool as fuck, giving us free beers and such and answering questions and joking around. Even got my copy of Bonded By Blood signed :)

I can't really think offhand of anyone famous I've met who was a bit cunty.
