  1. It's fine though, we're selling Batshuayi to Forest.

This window is a complete reset, Sterling and Fofana aside. Loads of deadwood being cleared by hook or by crook and a couple of stop gaps to (in theory) stay competitive before sorting things out more next year.

    When John Terry takes charge.

Doesn't matter anyway, no one else is winning anything in this league until Haaland joins Real Madrid and Pep decides he's bored and goes to PSG.

  2. The Punk stuff got me straight back into their match. They're trying to go full Rocky mode with him, and I'm down with it. He doesn't know what his foot is going to be able to do, he's not the same guy he was but damn it he's going to fight anyway.

I'm a bit surprised at the negativity, I wonder if this is something that might work better for American audiences? I agree that it was too much in one segment, and should've happened over a few weeks, but it's what they were stuck with. I thought the crowd reaction was fine, but I wasn't looking at it particularly hard so may well have not noticed.

While I don't think calling someone a fat virgin was in the plan for the promo, it does play into the stuff others have said in Punk feuds, that he talks a good game but is actually completely full of it and you see the nastiness come out when he's rattled.

The challenge is what you do on Sunday. This still really isn't time for Mox to lose, and I think he loses more by not being champion, but after that set up Punk can't lose right? I mean, unless they go full Rocky and he just about loses but does so in such a way that he goes out strong? Not sure.

I'm still really enjoying AEW, and I'm surprised how much some people have turned on it lately. Not accusing anyone of faking their opinions to be cool though, like what you like, but I enjoy myself every week.

I'm looking forward to Luchasaurus turning on Jungle Boy on Sunday. I'm looking forward to Hanger and the DO against the Elite, and watching FTR against the MCMG (and probably Wardlow powerbombing Satnam Singh). The title match will be heated and really good, I'm sure.

PSG aside (maybe even a little bit), how much is Chelsea a 'project' club right now? If it's not, it would be a massive disaster.

It's massively a project club at the moment, based on what the owners are saying. That's why Tuchel seems so safe, he's built up cred and they want to invest long term. It may well even work, though I'm concerned about his volatility.

Maybe Pat was right all along and the Champions League was a fluke? 😂

I don't think it was, but I do wonder if he's a brilliant cup manager (after all, this year's champion's league is the first competition since Tuchel has taken charge where they didn't reach the final, which is brilliant) and not great as a league manager. A reverse Conte.

It's fine though, if we sack him we can get Poch in.

    Trump, innit.

But I was being a tad flippant which I thought was obvious.

Wasn't trying to suggest you weren't, it wouldn't have surprised me if there was a longer list. Not that I think he deliberately selects nonces to fund, but he does give the impression of being absolutely clueless and mostly informed by the opinions of his wife.

Jericho has donated to nonces so yeah, he's as bad as Savile.

Not trying to dispute that, but seeing as this is the Piss Jericho thread, let's /gameshow NAME.THOSE.NONCES /gameshow

Using extreme examples to illustrate a concept is an everyday rhetorical device. You know the point he was trying to make - that the good work someone's seen to be doing shouldn't shield them from criticism for other things. Equating them would be a stretch and a half, but so is the claim that he was literally equating them.

Yes, it's a bad rhetorical device. My problem is with the device. It's false equivalence by orders of magnitude. The general point I agree with, as I said right at the start of the post.  I'm sure Hannibal doesn't actually think they're the same thing, but it speaks to the problem with our discourse that equating things like this happens, because it is absolutely how we end up warped into extremes.

I appreciate I came across a bit hysterical in my previous post, so fair play, but I stand by the point I was trying to make.

Jimmy Saville did a lot of charity work and fundraising.

Listen, obviously the correct response here is Carbomb's, but let's not let this, which equates "being pretty rich, legendarily uninformed and also being a republican" with "being a rapist and child molester", just pass by.

I know this forum is fairly left wing, but come on

  9. There's some rehab to do on Sami, for sure, but he's one of the best babyfaces in the world if he's allowed to be.

Triple H absolutely knows how to make Sami that babyface. It's the thing I'm most excited for in WWE, quality faces again

  10. I don't think the problem with Mox Punk was the match itself, which was pretty cool (although I agree with @Loki, there's a world of difference between the stories of that happening in Brock/Cena or Brock/Goldberg and here), but more that the direction it seems to lead in seems mental considering it, and it doesn't naturally lead to a rematch. It didn't feel like a flash knockout like some MMA fights, and wrestling has a long established trope of an injury flaring up but the babyface fighting through it, rather than getting run over. Doesn't make it impossible to work, just didn't feel it.

I also agree completely with @RedRooster(I think it was) who said that part of the reason it felt bad that it was in the middle of the show. It's not like the main had a clean finish, if they've ended with this I think it would've hit different.

It could end up being perfect, depending on what they do next, it's just hard to see what that will be.

    Mox vs Punk was perfect

Going on at the start of hour 2 which must of got some people asking "are they going an hour"

I know what you're saying, but I can't imagine many did as we knew a highly anticpated match in their 6 man tournament that was always going to be given loads of time was going on last.

According Meltzer, a rematch is exactly what they're doing.

  12. I think there are two possibilities with the Punk thing: Either his injury is worse than we thought so all they could do was a short match and get him off TV again, or (if the rumblings about him are true) he's done with the company. I guess we'll see what comes out over the next couple of days, but instinctively it felt like a write off match to me. If his injury is worse, then how was he cleared for anything, especially delivering a roundhouse kick?

I'd be extremely surprised if he's back next week to set up a match for All Out, considering the injury angle. @Loki is right, as soon as they said "the trios match is the main event" it was clear that trouble was coming. I guess part of the logic of moving it was that Mox would be more cheered for winning Ohio than at All Out in Chicago

Edit: Now I've read suggestions that it might be Punk putting his career on the line for a rematch. That's...pretty believable, to be fair

All in all, a show that was a bit all over the place. I assume they've come to the conclusion that Satnam Singh is not ready for PPV, hence the machine gun upgrade, but if that's the case why book the match and build it around the Wardlow power bomb in the first place? MCMG are undoubtedly an upgrade, but it just feels weird.

Thunder Rosa is vacating either because she's injured or she has heat, but I'm afraid no one cares either way. @RedRooster is absolutely right that there's no way they'd make an announcement like that for the men's title, but I'd go further and say they wouldn't do it for the TBS title if Jade needed to vacate.

Eddie Kingston was suspended apparently, which...is entirely believable.

It was very un-AEW and very crap to end the main event with Pac being attached by Kip Sabian (of all people), interference which went on for a while and the ref somehow didn't notice. A damp squib end to a really good match.

Thought Ricky Starks was great, thought Daniel Garcia was great, looking forward to Stokely's faction of "underused guys".

Still can't believe that the first time Kenny and Ospreay are going to wrestle in AEW is in a trios match on Dynamite.

I can believe AEW having some relationship problems now. Last year (or was it 2 years ago?) they looked like they were going to start beating Raw, WWE was losing steam and it looked like a terrible place to work. Now the company has stalled a bit, WWE has picked itself back up and we're starting to see opportunities be given to guys who wouldn't have had them before. There will be some guys who are thinking that the grass may not be as green any more, just as some fans are doing. The whole rebellious alternative that gives you freedom thing only works if the other guys are control freak bad guys

  13. The difficult thing is that it is absolutely not the right time for Mox to lose. I'm sure going in Punk winning and setting up the new challenger was the plan, but Mox has been on such a tear that I really think he should win, because I think Punk loses less in defeat than he does.

That being said, who would Mox go on to feud with next? *Checks rankings* Hanger is the current number one contender and then I guess... Hobbs? Wait that'd be awesome. Book it!

Not content with a £60m bid for Gordon, they've now had a £70m bid rejected by Leicester for Fofana. Plus there's the £20-30m for Aubameyang (not sure how I feel about that) that's likely to happen.

Seems to be a bit slap dash though, no? Get in whoever they can and hope it works. Has a touch of the Ed Woodwards about it. I suppose this is the effect of no longer having that team in place to plan and execute squad building, just Boehly playing dinner host to the other chairmen like it's the 70s.

Honestly, I think it's the result of the sale. The groundwork laying months before the window opened just didn't happen because of sanctions and so they've had to squeeze this all in in the summer. When you combine that with losing 2 CBs, 2 "Strikers" and needing to clear a load of dead wood, a mental window was always to be expected.i think they're having to spend extra money to make negotiations move a lot quicker. Definitely being taken for a ride initially.

In amongst the Auba stuff (only 18 tbf from what I see) and 60m for cucurella and a world record for Fofana they're also spending money on teenagers that they want to bring through slowly over the next few years, which should be good.

    Nothing explains Anthony Gordon though.

Tuchel has actually said it was his bus that was the problem!

    Premier League No GIF

    Probably sabotaged by Anthony Taylor.

Or Conte graffitied "piss cock tuchel" on the side (he's Italian, he gets the word order wrong)

What is it about Chelsea that causes the world to conspire against us so? Why always us? Is it the oligarchs? Is it the racism? Is it John Terry? No don't answer that.

Media blaming Sterling, as is their wont.

I'm more surprised that I didn't see it coming.

They'd probably blame Mendy(a much more reasonable point) but I think he legitimately scares the life out of them.

Tonight is one of those games I can look forward to because whatever happens it will be hilarious. A Liverpool win keeps Man U firmly in the banter column, a Utd win puts them above Liverpool, which is hilarious, and a draw means Liverpool have played 3 teams they should smash (well, two and Palace) and drawn them and Klopps angry face will be out.

Whatever happens well stop talking about Chelsea and Leeds (who even let them in the prem? Small club that parked the bus outside Chelsea penalty area)

Happy for my weakness to think it's an old photo used for a joke. Rather than one snapped in an instant of Punk's promo. 1:05am is 20:05 EST time

Especially since all the reports are meant to be the promo wasn't planned and people are pissed backstage. Doesn't seem like an opportune time to be candidly taking pics of your mate eating for those precious social media likes.

I'm sorry. I'm tired and stressed today and was more aggressive there than I should have been. I was up for a fight, rather than trying to have a discussion, which is not how I want to conduct myself. Sorry.

I'll make my point again, because I've not made it well, and then I'll back out because I'm sure it's tedious:

When the picture was actually taken is irrelevant, it's presented as if that's what Hanger was doing. It was obviously a joke by Silver, but it's entirely believable that was a live picture. So now when Hanger goes "I wasn't even there" (if he does), we have evidence to the contrary and somebody has to reference that it was an old shot, which is just a bit awkward for the sake of a dumb joke.

It's wrestling everything is canon, and nothing is.
