I agree with you Duke, the only thing against it would be that revealing the demons and having Max feud with any of them before The Devil is revealed would only spin it out longer, which is the last thing it needs.Ā

Yeah, it's definitely not an ideal scenario, but I'm assuming Cole won't be healthy for a few months, so they'll need to spin it out a bit more.

  2. I'm still certain it's going to end up being Adam Cole and controversially, think it's going to be great. The goal to keep Max isolated, hurt, but the champion so Cole can defeat him once and for all is still the closest to a good answer that we have (though still a bit janky at this stage) and the best pay off is Max being spurned after finally learning to open up to friends. His promos for that will be great, and the high spot where he's all alone against.tje mob but the Acclaimed come back to save him and show that there are still good people in the world will be amazing.

I think there's a decent chance we'll get a reveal of some of the puttys first (none of whom will be Wardlow), and one of them will be Jack Perry, giving Max a feud until Cole is healed, but it'll ultimately lead to him again, and that's why they're dragging it out.

There are still holes, it's not been perfect and Coles injury hasn't helped, but I still think it'll come good in the endĀ

The Trios title has been mothballed by the Devil storyline since The Acclaimed disappeared after being attacked over a month ago. They're either being held back as part of that or someone might have a legit concern. Max Caster's the only one working some indie dates recently

Yeah, I understand that, but that's not necessary, they could easily strip them and it's not like the trios division has been much of anything since the Acclaimed won them.

  5. Kenny's promo being crap was probably more to do with it being totally unsuited in style for him than because he had diverticulitis . It had Jericho's fingerprints all over it, it was 2001 "man beast and hose beast" all over again, and was doomed to fail no matter who you put in there, especially when the pay off was "your tag team could be named after a woman's wrestler lol!" It doesn't help that Kenny is best suited as a heel, but teaming with Jericho is a terrible fit for him. Hope he's better soon, diverticulitis could be a rocky road though.

The positive news is hopefully that Ricky and Big bill can move on to feuding with someone else and we can get the AEW tag team and trios divisions moving again. In the start tag teams were the highlights of the whole company and they've been a total afterthought lately.

  6. A couple of unorganised general Raw thoughts from someone who doesn't watch often but keeps up with the results.

Are we sure it's a great storyline for one of your top baby faces and your top heel to say that Punk is a cancer and will ruin backstage. It's just a weird vibe to build around him.

I liked Seth Rollins promo,.but I liked it more when Hangman did it. Everything about Seth's presentation is awful. He's like when you make a serious CAW and your mate gets drunk and decides to make him look as stupid as possible.

Fascinated at the idea of Punk winning the rumble and chasing the runners.up world title at the main event of night one of a buy one get one free. What a world we live in. Promo was good though. He even came off legitimately angry at Seth's promo too.Ā

The Miz as a mystery baby-face partner in 2023? Awful.

Jey Uso feels like a guy waiting for his injured tag partner to get back. He does absolutely nothing for me away from the bloodline.

I didn't like a lot of the show, in total, but I will say that Drew McIntyre is the absolute man. So fantastic. I assume he's signing a new deal but if he hasn't yet they should do what they can to make sure he does.

Hmmm nice try but you ain't having credit :)

Spurs went full Spurs in that game, and broke themselves.

We beat Brighton in the cup in September and they don't win another league game until the end of November.Ā

We have that mental draw with City and now they're in crisis.

We are the eaters of worlds.

    What we aren't is good.

Edit: I've just realised what I'm saying is that we're so in crisis we're contagious. Bleak.

Admittedly it's a very low bar but they have got better. Nakamura won the Royal Rumble, got a title shot at Mania and was IC champ. He's currently the most interesting he has ever been and was massively over (well, his entrance was) when he was first called up.

This is true, but it skips a few years there.

Weirdly, I couldn't give a toss if he went to AEW (though I'm sure him and MJF would work well together) but him going to WWE is way more intriguing.Ā

I'd love to hear your reasoning behind this,Ā  because I couldn't disagree more. The thought of Okada against Mox, Osprey,Ā  Fenix, a match where Danielson doesn't get injured, Eddie Kingston etc moves me far more than LA Knight or Seth. The Roman match would be really good if he was used properly, but that's honestly it.

If nothing else, we could see the reunion of Green Hornet Samoa Joe and Okato.

Is it any more dangerous then when footballers wore protective glasses or safety gear. I mean Petr Cech continued to wear a helmet for the rest of his career after his skull fracture.

    Yes.

  11. Assuming he was told "we're going to build to work shooty stuff, don't blow your load now, be a happy warrior" (which is what it was always going to be) , and considering he was only given 8 minutes, he had limited options, as Daz says.

The initial I'm home cliche felt forced and un punk like, because it was. I assume it was either forced on him or part of a deeper storyline, only because it's where his AEW story looked to be going. The promo got better when he got onto the best in the world stuff because that's his comfort zone.

The "I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to make money" (which is a thing only knobheads say) was so incongruous with the "I'm home because of all you lovely snuggable fans" stuff that it felt like his way of working his actual character in, and I'm sure pissed a few people off.

Either way, I can't say I'm desperate to find out what he says next

If there's anyone who can out-idiot Hangman Page for completely incoherent nonsense in a promo exchange with Punk, it's Rollins. They've picked the right/wrong man going forward, it's going to be great/hilariously shit.Ā

Not entirely sure if it was on Rampage or Collision, but that backstage promo with Daniel Garcia talking about his frustrations was excellent ā€œIā€™m not in this tournament to eat pins!ā€ Real underdog story to be told here. Iā€™m hoping he goes a long way. Maybe have him win the whole thing. Thereā€™s something there with my boy.

When I thought about this whole tournament, I honestly think my preference would be for Daniel Garcia to win the whole thing, beating Moxley in the final. He's so obviously the Jay Lethal of the blue group, the designated job guy, but I think that's a massive misuse of him. He's got some charisma and a decent character arc so far, and winning his group the long way round could be a great story. Going through all those bigger names to win the thing could turn him into a star straight away and I think he'd undoutedly benefit from winning it more than anyone else in the whole tournament. He's also someone that could do really well with a touring belt, tapping people out and racking up wins across the world and developing. Let the dragonslayer loose!

  14. So, assuming Seth's reaction is a work, which seems pretty likely, that means that early on in Punks tenure we'll get a feud between them, which means that there's a 70% chance Seth's inevitable "you're a cancer" promo says something that offends Prickly Phil and he'll be in fight with AJ Styles before the rumble even hits.

I also think it's inevitable that Punk feuds with Logan Paul so that he can kick out of a buckshot.

This is obviously a great get for WWE, but I don't feel like it's AEWs loss in any way. He was not a net positive by the end, and this feels like a better space to get him on TV.

Oh, and spare a thought for FTR. Just signed a new contract at AEW and now their besty has gone back to WWE. Got to be a gut punch

Thatā€™s what Iā€™m getting at - heā€™s putting himself in harmā€™s way with little to gain. But the whole angle made little sense, so maybe weā€™re both putting more thought into it than they haveā€¦

Well the gain is he's gone all weird stalker on Max and doesn't want anyone else to beat him. That does seem to be who the devil is, someone on Max's side, or at least thinks they are, who doesn't want anyone else there.Ā  Assuming he's not injured, he could've just gone on to win the match, but that obviously reveals himself, which is why I'm wondering.

I think part of the problem with this event is that TK put too much thought into it. It didn't feel haphazard "let's just throw a load of stuff at it", it felt completely over thought and over booked (for e.g, the entire angle works better without Cole involved in it at all). I'm also certain that this is exactly the kind of thing the performers themselves will have put tonnes of thought into.

If it *is* Cole though, he definitely shouldn't beat MJF for the title because as everyone has said, it feels like that should definitely be Swerve Strickland.

No idea what you do next with Hanger though.

Edit: That is written like a string of 2am whatsapp messages, sorry.

Volunteering to replace MJF in the main event is one hell of a thing to do if youā€™re ā€™the devilā€™. My guess is that theyā€™re reveal that it was MJF all along.Ā

Nah, because the devil clearly wants to keep max isolated but also wants to be the one to beat him, hence attacking Jay in the first place. The devil has never done anything to intentionally jeopardise MJF, just to stop him making friends.

The bigger problem with my theory is "what would Cole have done if Max hadn't come out"

The biggest problem is "why not get Joe to do it, as he has a vested interest in MJF retaining"

  17. My personal head canon for the main event was

    Ā

    1) we didn't see the devil because Adam Cole was actually in the building and was meant to be. All the stupid video call stuff, and the Roddy's house has no signal stuff, is an alibi, but he needed to be accounted for tonight.

    2) he got cleared to compete because, in storyline, he's not actually injured. He's like Roddy

This still leaves a lot to be explained, but if Cole is the devil it's closer to making sense (alright, just barely).Ā

The funniest thing about that picture is Mudryk being offside. What a brain dead player. In fact, I don't think the Chelsea players remembered you can't be off in your own half last night.Ā

Was driving me (and, clearly, Poch) mad the whole time he was on. You're the fastest player on the pitch and they're playing a line so high it's basically a chemtrail! There's no need to ever be offside ever!

  19. This was the football equivalent of the fight against the Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, right down to Chelsea being confused and scared and Spurs trying to bite knees off.

It feels like Ange told the Spurs players at half time that this Chelsea team are young and fragile so if you get at them they'll crumble and if so he was totally, totally right. We were the better team for the second half of the first half but Tottenham's renewed aggression in the second clearly spooked us.

Oh and it's not important, but I felt sorry for Sterling getting his goal in the first half ruled out. He can't help that he runs like that!

People can chuck the Saudi Arabia stuff around all they like, but the fact is a lot of the big club fans just don't like another club challenging them. .Ā

It's alright lads, let me talk to him. He needs someone that's been there before.

    Ā

Listen, I'm a Chelsea fan. I've been there. You're just pleased the club is being well run and doing well, and more power to you. And in 20 years time, when you've won the Prem and the UCL and are in a three way race with City and Norwich after they got bought by China, it'll be great.

But the jokes about the blood money won't stop. You'll say they're just jealous, but deep down, you'll know they're not. You'll know that the charges stick. You'll feel a little bit of revulsion every time you think about it, like that time you sat next to the snotty kidĀ  who used to cack himself at school because he had a playstation.

It won't go away. You'll just have to learn to live with it.

And them some Americans will come in and blow everything up. You'll suddenly be awful but at least you won't feel as bad about where the money comes from. And that'll feel worth it.Ā

One day, I'm sure it'll feel worth it.
