  1. This is still based on the assumption that McGregor's claims about not wanting to do press etc were true & it wasn't about money/control. Something that most seem to have dismissed.

After Conor made his moves & they seemingly backfired, pulled from 200, told he wouldn't be on the NYC card & resulting in Kavanagh crying on social media that the UFC were taking it too far etc. I'd guess that McGregor has accepted that he's in a pretty good place, is still earning megabucks & it's time to get back to work.

What I wrote really is directly in relation to money and control. The control aspect was Mcgregor believing he could dictate what he wants, and the money is that he believes he should be paid to promote.

I think Mcgregor is too stubborn to just accept what he's told to do, which is why I believe some middle ground will be found.

  2.

I'm a total casual who knows nothing about the backstage workings of MMA - how likely are we to see McGregor vs Diaz re-added to 200?

McGregor is ready to go, but it seems unlikely based on what Dana is saying.

When the prospect of it occurring at UFC 202 in August was broached to White, he seemed very open to it.

This is what baffled me from the very start. As early as the very first 200 press conference, White was going on about Mcgregor probably fighting at 201,202 etc. Yet they hadn't even had any communication at that point. What makes him think Mcgregor will request anything different in his preparation and promo work this time around?

He will still demand that he has all the time to train.

  3.

See McGregor's got some security guards for some death threats he's received, fair enough if it's a short term thing but hopefully he doesn't fall in to the trap that hundreds of boxers have.

You pay about 20 people to hang around you all day basically just being paid to be friends and run the odd favour, you pay some of these people to be your body guards when you are a great fighter yourself and all your doing is stopping fans getting close, you retire and these hangers on still stick around until you can't afford to pay them and now you're skint and have to make a comeback and those hangers on try and get back in with you.

    Fucking hell mole

i've only just read this. Jesus Mole, or he's just getting a couple of bodyguards to watch over his safety?

  4. I've seen it twice and I loved it just as much second time around, if not more.

Deadpool is still my all time superhero flick to beat, but this is up there in the top five easily, and is my favourite MCU flick thus far with Guardians and Winter Soldier just trailing it.

One gripe...one minor gripe. Hawkeye. I loved Renner in S.W.A.T, 28 Weeks Later, The Town and The Hurt Locker as he had this effortless charisma just dripping off him, but when he dons the Hawkeye getup he's utterly shit. Shit!

EDIT - Oh, and fully agree with Sir Chest and Muttons there. Holland is a wonderful talent and was everything Spider-Man should be.

It's really fucking difficult trying to pick a top film from the MCU (or a super hero flick in general) as I honestly find my opinion changes so much.

Before watching Civil War I rewatched the first Avengers flick for what's probably the 20th time and it's holds up so well in terms of rewatchability (is that even a word?). I think Civil War may struggle with that it in future after multiple viewings given how politically heavy it is at times. I may be wrong, but that's my gut feeling.

Winter Soldier holds up really well after multiple viewings yet bizarrely I've found Guardians not so much. I still hold it in my top 5 though.

  5. After seeing Civil War on Saturday (and really enjoying it) I decided to see again last night. I may be alone in thinking this, but I still think Marvel's best movie is still the first avengers movie.

Civil War has incredible actions sequences but I think with The Avengers the story seems to flow more quickly and there's never a dull moment.

On second viewing Civil War seemed to drag a bit, something I've never said about the first Avengers flick.

The Airport action sequence mind still blew my mind second time around.

  6. The co-promotion spiel genuinely baffled me. I thought he was playing his cards far too early in his career and making it public knowledge certainly wasn't the best idea. As people mentioned, that shit must have got under Dana and Lorenzo's skin. Who knows what the future would have brought, but coming out with that was really ill advised.

The other thing is why on earth is he that arsed about co-promotion? I get that he thinks it's more cash for him, but the UFC would just continue to add zeros to his contract the bigger his PPV's became. They would never agree to co-promotion. Just ask Fedor.

He really has shot himself in the foot for me with this bullshit last tweet. I could see the reason behind the previous tweets as that was impacting on him and the company alone. However, this last one fucked with many people's emotions and potential plans for Vegas.

  7.

Nah, again, someone like DJ is "paid to fight", which is why he earns around $200,000 per fight.

Conor McGregor gets paid those $5 million paycheques because he promotes his fights. We've all said that before, haven't we? If a fighter wants to earn the big bucks they need to go out and make it happen, right?

I've listened to everyone bang on about how he's the only one who "gets it" and the one who's out there making it happen, and now he can't attend a press conference three months out from a fight?

He's at it. He tried to make a power play, in the hope that the UFC would either fling him some cash or bend the knee, and it hasn't happened.

Fair point. But look at someone like Anderson Silva. He was paid huge sums of cash, but did virtually no promotion. His fighting is what sold the PPV's, eventually anyway.

  8.

See, I'd probably be more inclined to agree if he hadn't said that he's "paid to fight, and isn't paid to promote", as that suggests that an extra zero at the end of his paycheque would see him regain his enthusiasm for the media responsibilities.

Bizarrely it was the one thing I didn't completely agree with in his statement. For most fighters he's right since they aren't on anything but show and win money.

However, Mcgregor (along with other big stars) are paid a PPV %. Hence the more he promotes, the more people will pay for the event, and thus more money in his pocket.

That said, I think you're looking at that comment a bit cynically. Imagine if that Aldo fight never actually happened? Say Aldo retired early due to injury. He spent god knows how many hours in a plane flying around the world and for what? He received no payment for doing that.

Whilst I see what you're saying that IF he was paid more, would he have turned up, but the way I see is that the fact of the matter fighters are not, and it's this reason why he needs to focus on how he performs on fight night for the first time in his career.

  9. It means exactly how it's written David. The point I'm making is that Mcgregor has come out and clearly said what he needs in order to achieve the next goal he has ahead of him.

He's burnt out, and you've asked "You're telling me that the fight is announced on March 31st, taking place on July 9th, and he can't do media on April 22nd or whenever it was?". The answer is, from Mcgregor's own mouth, he can't.

I don't know what it's like to be in his shoes, and even you said after reading his statement that it came across as very genuine. I'm choosing to believe the guy is telling the truth here.

  10. Your intentionally missing the point here, Lamby. There's no point in discussing it any further because your choosing to focus on minute details rather than look at the bigger picture.

Let's just wait and see what happens, eh?

I would love to have a response, but I honestly don't know what you're talking about?

  11.

He plays the game honestly? There's a good chance that his latest Tweet was nothing more than a barefaced lie. I don't really see what's honest about that?

You're right, he is looking for leverage. And, it looks as though the whole stunt has backfired tremendously on him. He's looking as though he's managed to talk his way off the supposed biggest card of the year, managed to piss off the people who actually pay him, and went for broke in a power struggle with the UFC that he's looking like losing in front of the entire world.

I know his fanboys will quickly clamour to put a positive spin on everything, but if we're honest he's took a gamble and fucked it right up.

Rather than donning the trademark suit and sunglasses and taking his rightful place in front of the MMA media in Las Vegas to ramp up the interest in his big fight with Nate Diaz he was holed up in Iceland watching the presser on a laptop whilst posting on Twitter.

Ironically, he's managed to get the UFC 200 event trending on social, drawn a shitload of interest to the event on mainstream media and he won't even be on it to reap the benefit!

I'm not sure how you can't see this though? He's said in his statement he needs X/Y/Z to achieve his goals for his next fight, and if he isn't allowed those things then he's not fighting. This isn't a gamble, this isn't posturing, it's Mcgregor saying that if he can't do these things then there's no fucking point to any of it as he can't accept poor preparation this time around.

  12. I remember that you did, and I agree, Dana did handle it well, despite looking squeamish for parts of it. He didn't shout which is to his credit and he kept his cool.

However, the promoter not screaming and shouting shouldn't really be enough to sway your opinion should it? It should be applauded, but what he came out with wasn't anything new that we didn't know previously? He already said exactly the same stuff on ESPN etc etc.

I also don't know what behaviour of Mcgregor you're referring to since the press conference? Today is the first significant thing he's done since then and IF it's a lie then fair enough David.

I understand opinions can change, but not enough has happened since you made those posts above to warrant that for me.

  13.

I have to say David, you really do chop and change on your opinion...

    Mr Devil's Advocate, init.

People are allowed to change their opinion, buddy. As time goes by and more things come to light, such as Dana addressing the situation at the press conference, an opinion on the matter can change.

Like I said, I do agree with him in principle, but then there's a part of me that thinks he must have known what he'd be asked to do when he signed the bout agreement to main event UFC 200.

Only the press conference has happened since you made those posts though, and Dana had already come out on stating exactly the reasons why Mcgregor was pulled prior to Mcgregor's statement and the press conference. No new information came out then.

However, I will agree that if this new message is a lie, then things are different.

  14. What he should be doing, given the sheer amount of money that he stands to miss out on (and also the money he'll cost his employer) is getting himself over to a face to face meeting with both Dana and Lorenzo and getting this shit sorted out. You know, like an actual professional would?

Sitting in Iceland posting shit on social media isn't the answer, and is starting to look a bit cringeworthy.

Unless this ends up being true. Completely agree if it's a lie.

I have to say David, you really do chop and change on your opinion of Mcgregor and this debate.

The guy is just being honest here, and he has some valid points I reckon. The very fact that he stepped up to fight on the 200 show only four months after his first fight with Nate surprised the shit out of me if i'm honest. I didn't see him coming back so early, but he's stepped up. Again.

Surely Dana can see that he's going to need some time to prepare for the fight? Especially seeing (despite what any bookies will tell you) as he's an underdog in this fight? The guy needs time to train.

Fuck it, I'm a Conor fan now. He's earned my respect these past few days, so when he does return I'll be behind him 100%.

  15. If it's not a done deal, it makes perfect sense to name check Dana and Lorenzo.

He's done it whilst they're asleep, essentially, if it's bullshit so plenty of time for fans and media to break out the party poppers.

If grumpy Danzo (like Brangelina, see) wakes up and shuts the fiesta down, they'll be the bad guys.

If it is in fact bullshit then personally I lose a lot of sympathy with him. It won't change my opinion on whether the original requests were reasonable, but it will make me start to look at him as the boy who cried wolf.

Firstly it was the retirement statement, but given the circumstances I could forgive. But if he comes out and lies again, getting the hopes up of fans, then it will be difficult to maintain his side throughout this.
