  1. I did post what i thought of Trainspotting 2 a few pages back.

Found it now. It was because you started the post about Green Room that I missed it.

I can definitely see how watching the first recently would impact on how you view the new one. For me, I haven't watched the original in years but I'm glad Danny Boyle choose to go in this direction for the new.

For me, if they made it in the same way you suggested today it would have felt like they were trying to replicate the same formula. It's why I enjoyed it so much. You have remember these characters are 45 plus years old now, and chucking guys of that age into something as chaotic as the first wouldn't feel genuine to me.

It's why I used the term organic above. It felt a natural way to bring these characters back together.

  2. Did Trainspotting 2 today. Really good. Toned down the comedy a little bit and I liked the fact that it made Spud more than just comic relief as well. Well worth seeing and waiting for.

I just trawled back to see if there was any mention of the new Trainspotting film and there's only Dev's post above so I thought I would continue on from here.

I went to watch it with my wife on Saturday and I'm in agreement that I thought it was great as well. One of my concerns was about how you bring these characters back together after 20 years, on top of following on from what was a cultural phenomenon. However those concerns faded within 20 minutes as everything really felt organically brought together. It had an awful lot of heart and it makes you sit there contemplating what you did with your own life since the original movie came out. As you say, Spud's arc was a joy to watch.

I felt the end was little abrupt mind, but it still didn't cloud over anything in what was a really fantastic follow up.

  3.

Whilst having a look what films Kevin Smith has made over the last few years I stumbled across Tusk. After watching a few clips I'm almost tempted to give it a go. Is it as terrible as it appears or is there a tongue in cheek charm to it?

I remember him spouting about Jersey Girl being his Annie Hall coming of age film but to be fair he's probably never topped his first film. Red State was quite interesting but was ultimately disappointing and whilst I'll unapologetically sit through Jersey Girl whenever it's on it certainly wasn't his Annie Hall. Outside of the nostalgia of being a teenager and loving everything he did he's pretty shit really isn't he?

Avoid Tusk. It's so bad and I'm a huge Kevin Smith fan...

Can't say I agree. I enjoyed Tusk for exactly the reason Danger said, and it's without question tongue in cheek.

Michael Parks is amazing in everything he does so he's worth the watch alone. It's just a fucking weird film that makes you laugh whilst making you physically sick at the same time.

Red State too was a massive departure to what he did in the past and for me didn't get enough plaudits. Parks again along with John Goodman are brilliant.

  4. i get the impression the Marvel control is completely different to what is currently happening with Warner Bros and DC.

Warner Bros' have been pressing Affleck in order to hit times and deadlines in order to satisfy the needs of the shareholders. He's not being allowed to bring something together organically.

The stories you hear from Marvel always seem to involve creative differences and you can see why Marvel have to have their hands deeply in that pie. They have this huge universe now where everything is intricately connected and if someone starts messing with that everything could go tits up.

  5. What's interesting to is see what's going to happen in terms of writing the script. Affleck was co-writing the film and from what I can gather is what was holding up the start date.

Affleck wanted to get the script perfect and stated in a recent interview that Warner Bros were hounding him to get the shoot started.

I highly doubt their decision is based on the poor performance of live by night, as Affleck has proven he's an absolutely top class director with Gone Baby Gone, Argo, and The Town.

I think it's exactly what he says and that the role is just too big on it's own to balance writing and directing on top of it.

  6. All this catch up nonsense is just fucking ridiculous.

Why did they feel they had to catch up to begin with? Were they worried that Marvel would saturate the comic book market? If so it's just idiotic to think that.

As mentioned above, where they went wrong is just rushing the whole fucking thing. Whilst Affleck was easily the best thing about B vs S, it's all just smushed together in order to get to the justice league film quickly.

I can understand their urgency now to get the solo batman film in motion as the ball is unfortunately now rolling. But all this was completely avoidable with decent planning and structure.

B vs S should never have happened at this point, and Suicide Squad should have come way after a Justice League film.

  7. Just saw that Chael Sonnen interview from MMA Fighting, i can't figure out what it is that got Chael so pissed off? Anyone shed any light?

At a guess it was probably the Couture question that riled him up.

It wasn't the best of questions and perhaps Sonnen took it offensively as it could play off their friendship?

I've actually just watched the pre fight presser and it was pretty fun.

Sonnen is certainly playing his role perfectly and seeing Tito lose his shit is hilarious.

I'm pleased the pro wrestling feel has gone from this fight.

  8. Rather odd behaviour from Sonnen right at the end there flipping out after Raimondi asked him a few questions about the new MMA rules.

Seemed completely out of character and it's probably the first time I've heard him drop the F bomb.

  9. I'm favouring Tito due to several reasons. Tito is far bigger than Sonnen, and there's the fact that Sonnen hasn't fought in several years. On top of that this will be Sonnen's first fight off TRT (and fuck knows what else) so it will be interesting to see what shape he comes in at.

It's interesting that both guys have been subject to random drug testing as well and so far both have passed.

It's a good card so hopefully I can find a decent stream to watch the top 2 fights live.

  10. He really is a scum bag. He's just so full of fucking shit and just comes across so insincere it's incredible. Everything he says is all about how he has this incredible ability to keep rising because of how positive he is, yet not accepting it's probably this arrogant belief why he keeps fucking people and himself over.

When he refers to the UFC 200 debacle like it was supposed to be his triumphant return after having everything taken away from him? Again, portraying himself as the victim in all of this.

    He's just a scummy bastard.

  11. The boxing license, days after getting his belt ripped from him, raised a smile. The timing of it all is brilliant.

The only way the Mayweather fight happens is if UFC grant him a favour, in the same way WWE did with Lesnar fighting in the UFC, which is probably unlikely unless they're desperate.

Mcgregor may now be so big that he's able to demand what he likes.

Without Mcgregor, the current outlook of the UFC is bleak as fuck financially and after spending 4.2bn, he could easily have them bent over Marsellus Wallace style.

If Mcgregor has the conviction, he could say to the new owners, 'allow me to box 1 or 2 fights, or I will never fight for you again.' He always said his intention was to retire early from the sport, and he's got more than enough money now to live comfortably for the rest of his life.

He's also achieved as much as he possibly can in the sport by achieving a feat that has never been done before. Right now the UFC need him far more than he needs them.

  12. Whilst I don't necessarily disagree with you regarding the consistency element of fans Supremo, the Frankie and Chael comparison does have big differences.

Yes, Frankie did drop down straight into a title shot, but you have to look at each other's achievements too. Edgar was fighting much bigger guys at lightweight and became champion. Sonnen on the other hand didn't achieve that feat in the middleweight division.

Edgar was moving down to fight guys who were more of his size, whilst Sonnen was moving up after being TKO'd, fighting a bigger guy, and who achieved far less than Edgar in his division when it comes to merit.

Now again, I do agree with you on the consistency side of the things from fans, but there were arguments that existed at the time outside of just wins and losses.

  13. Looking at his record, I would say Aldo hasn't fought enough.

    2016 - Only fought once

    2015 - 1 time

    2014 - 2

    2013 - 2

    2012 - 1

    2011 - 2

In comparison, Mcgregor, since 2013, has fought 10 times. In the same time, Aldo only has fought 5 times and Mcgregor was out for a year too with a serious injury in that time frame.

Whilst in comparison to other champions is debatable, but say Anderson Silva, whilst he was Champion he fought every year 2-3 times regularly so there is a big difference. Never at any point did he just defend it once a year.

  14.

Hendricks is worse though. His voice really grates on me. That interview with the belt that Herbie posted is another example of why I grew to dislike him. He's never said or done anything too bad, but he's just impossible to warm to.

Punctuating every sentence with "you know what I mean" and constantly spitting tobacco spit into clear water bottles. Annoying.

This in particular was fucking vile.

  15.

For me Aldo needs to go out there and beat everyone in the division until Mcgregor has no alternative to either face him or vacate the belt.

If Aldo beats the winner of Pettis and Holloway there really are no more options for Mcgregor at FW.

Whilst there are still other viable Featherweight options it gives Mcgregor get outs into coming back down to face Aldo.

In reality if Aldo swallows his pride for one more fight he could increase his bargaining power 10 fold by finally being able to call Conor's bluff.

Sorry Lamby, but that's absolute shite mate.

I don't think it's fair to Aldo but what choice does he have David?

Sit on his arse while Mcgregor sits on his?

If Aldo has cleared out his division along with all other challengers who's an option for Mcgregor, Mcgregor will have no choice but to either accept the Aldo fight or alternatively drop the belt.

At the moment Mcgregor's camp insist he can still reach 145 llbs.

  16. Lamby, im not trying to pick holes but you're posts have about 3/4 different opinions in them.

There's no differences of opinion at all.

My post was completely in support of Aldo here.

I don't see how asking him to clean the division out by fighting one fight is harsh at all.

The whole point is Aldo taking back some of the power he lost in his loss to Mcgregor. If he does that he can force the ufc's hand.

  17.

For me Aldo needs to go out there and beat everyone in the division until Mcgregor has no alternative to either face him or vacate the belt.

 after what Aldo has achived in the division, harsh Lamby, harsh.

You've plucked a small bit there Egg and ignored the rest. I've said all he needs to do to achieve that is fight one more time.

It's not about Aldo proving his talent but more about him being able to take away some of Mcgregor's bargaining power whilst giving himself more clout.

Right now Mcgregor holds all the chips but if Aldo has beaten everyone he could finally get the answer whether or not Mcgregor is talking shit about his willingness to drop to 145 again.
