  1. I think you're getting ahead of yourself Wand as I don't think there's anyone out there who believes that it's fair to Mcgregor to keep the belt if he's not willing to defend it.

However the fact is Mcgregor is taking a break. The featherweight division has a belt there in the interim so those fuckers just need to plough on and once Mcgregor returns the answer will be there whether he's willing to drop down.

It's that simple really and it's only then will the UFC decide to strip him.

  2. The thing is Aldo has already actually come out and said he's willing to face Pettis for the interim title. Those guys just need to crack the fuck on as if that interim belt is the real belt.

The rematch with Aldo at featherweight would seem a lot more lucrative if he goes out and say destroys Pettis (assuming Pettis can get past Hollaway which is a tough ask). Aldo really needs to rebuild himself more after the 13 second KO he suffered.

Then as mentioned, have Ferguson face Nurmagomedov on a big Fox card as for me, neither of those guys have been given the platform to truly get their name out there.

The problem there's actually too many options for Mcgregor.

  3.

The 145 belt needs to be vacated. He's never defending it again. But it becomes a negotiating tactic I guess. If they strip him it'll piss him off and delay him getting back in the cage, which they can't afford. Howeverthe UFC can't let McGregor just piss about for ages with two belts and not making up his mind what he plans to do. Get him to the negotiating table quick and convince McGregor to vacate it in return for a bit of a payrise and everybody is happy.

Just reading what you posted there, and got me thinking. The Conor/Diaz first fight was at Welterweight, meaning Conor has fought at three different weights in the UFC. How many others have fought at three weights, the only one that springs to mind is BJ Penn (Middleweight when he won the title from Matt Hughes, challenged GSP for the Welterweight Belt and is a more Lightweight Champion)

Penn never fought at middleweight in the UFC. He fought at middleweight a couple times and insanely at catchweight against Lyoto Machida in K1, but never in the UFC.

He won the welterweight and lightweight belts in the UFC.

  4.

I don't think they need to do McGregor/Diaz 3 next, the hook is always going to be there down the line. I like the sound of Khabib/Ferguson with the winner getting McGregor if he takes time off for his kid. If not straight up Khabib/McGregor with the winner getting Ferguson or vice versa.

I agree. He could take on Diaz coming off a loss. Better to use his momentum in a fight that would benefit from it. Say against Khabib for example.

The problem you have with Khabib is that he's the riskiest opponent for him to take. For starters the guy is a monster and has a style that isn't the most pleasing to the casual eye. Secondly his injury record is abysmal and as Mcgregor stated for him to commit to Khabib he needs to see him stay active for a prolonged period.

It's why I think having Khabib face Ferguson makes all the sense in the world. Have that headline a fox show or something and build those 2 guys up further to eventually face Mcgregor. Then at least Mcgregor goes up against one of those guys with a bigger profile.

  5. The spanner, of course, is that there's every chance now that he doesn't fight until he's back from the birth of his kid. That could easily be a year away with the due date in May.

I thought it was interesting at the press conference that he didn't know when the due date was ... even down to the month. Without wanting to sounds like a complete dick, I wonder how planned it was.

I'm not saying this is the case at all, but you never know. His girlfriend is just that at the moment, his girlfriend. Until they marry, she has fuck all right to any of his cash. For someone who has been there through the extremely tough times in Mcgregor's life and stood by him, it could certainly run through her mind. Now she's pregnant she will be guaranteed support and part of the pie.

Personally I don't think that's the case and that's just a cynical way of looking at it.

The due date seemed bizarre as his girlfriend certainly looked far closer to the March due Mcgregor said at first than May. May is still 6 and a half months away, which means his girlfriend is 2 and half months pregnant. However when you saw her post fight she looked far bigger than 2 to 2 and a half months in.

The trouble with doing Ferguson/Khabib is that both are ready for a title fight. If you make one of them lose in the meantime then you need to rebuild that fighter with at least another win before they can get be next in line.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. If the two fighters were huge draws then maybe, but neither are and with Mcgregor only able to fight so many fights, it makes perfect sense to eliminate one option.

  6. You're not pissing anyone off as your posts are at least drawing some attention to the cards, cards I more than likely would have missed.

The next one coming up certainly has 2 fights for me (the top two) that are must see so I will be going out of my way to watch it.

It's actually a big weekend of fights coming up with the quantity of events so if you're selective you should be able to get a good chunk of quality fights.

  7. I thought I would bring up this thread again as there's just a fuck ton of things to talk about with Mcgregor.

Where does he go next? How the hell can he top what he's just achieved? Will he get his stake in the UFC as he currently craves? Is there a possibility we could see a 3 weight simultaneous champion?

The guy just has so many options for his next fight. Does he fight Khabib? Ferguson? Aldo? Woodley? Diaz or even GSP?

Before Saturday night I would have thought Mcgregor had little to no chance against Khabib but seeing the success Johnson had on the feet has given me hope that if Mcgregor can manage the distance, he could have a field day with Nurmagomedov.

The problem to me is the featherweight title. How much longer can he put that division on hold before he defends the title? If it were me, I'd have the winner of Pettis/Hollaway face Aldo, and the winner face Mcgregor (if he decides to hold onto the 145llb belt). The same with the lightweight division, have Khabib fight Ferguson to determine the true number 1 contender in that division.

The whole thing is just unprecedented in the sport and the problem I'm personally having now is the lull I find in between his fights. There's just no topping what we all saw over the weekend.

Whilst I'm a big DC fan, I just look at UFC 206 and even 207 (despite the shit hot card) and sit there thinking, well, it will be good, but nothing will come close until Mcgregor fights again.

  8. I will definitely be tuning in for his one and it's massive test for McGeary. We will see just where this guy sits in the elite of 205.

Mcgreary really holds a big size advantage over Davis, and when Davis inevitably uses his wrestling game, hopefully those long limbs of Mcgreary will give Davis problems.

  9. It really is odd that it's come to this. The only thing I can think of is GSP openly coming out saying that he needs a new deal now he doesn't have his sponsors.

The ufc have refused to increase any other fighter's pay to incorporate a loss in money, so maybe they don't want to set a precedent?

There must be something GSP isn't telling us here that's made the UFC take their offer off the table?

  10.

"Georges St-Pierre remains under an existing agreement with Zuffa, LLC as his MMA promoter. Zuffa intends to honor its agreement with St-Pierre and reserves its rights under the law to have St-Pierre do the same."

    The UFC's response.

It's the Rampage Jackson situation all over again. Something tells me the UFC will end up winning here.

That said, I don't think GSP wants to fight anywhere else to be honest. I think all this is to force the UFC's hand in giving him a new deal.

  11. Currently listening to that conference call and Sonnen is full of shit when it comes to his contract with the UFC. He's asked a few times whether he had a contract with the UFC, and he repeats the same statement of that he "didn't have a UFC contract when signing with Bellator".

He's probably rightfully trying to avoid what went on with Dana when he expressed his wish to return, but him saying he didn't have a contract is bollocks.

He talks openly about entering USADA's testing pool and passing the tests, yet bizarrely not realising that you have to be under UFC contract to be entered into their testing pool.

  12. Interested to see that Urijah Faber is the betting underdog against Jimmie Rivera this Saturday.

Very surprising. I know he's on a long unbeaten streak, and 3 on the bounce in the UFC, but this is still bloody Urijah Faber.

A double on Faber and Overeem maybe very tempting this weekend.

  13. This morning I discovered a fairly sizeable spider hiding in my bedroom curtain. Literally between the layers of fabric, so that you could see its silhouette from both sides.

You can now see the smeared remains of a fairly sizeable spider on both sides of my bedroom curtain.

You cruel man. I'm scared shitless by them, yet it's always a cup and piece of paper method for me.

  14. I fucking swear I saw one today.

I've had concrete slabs sat in front garden stood upright for a few months and I finally got around to moving them.

There were 6 to move and they were so heavy I had to do 3 trips to the skip.

Anyway it got to the last two and after lifting the last one a fucking monster emerged. I shit you not it was 3 to 4 inches in width. On top of that there were about 20 smaller ones roaming around and subsequently all over the car.

  15. Lads, I’ve watched this movie thrice. Besides the fact Ayer can really do no wrong in my eyes, It’s a decent flick and thoroughly enjoyable.

Agree with Muttoner there on the soundtrack though. It’s like some 17 year olds’ iPod on shuffle and is quite disconcerting, but besides that and Letos‘ pantomime Joker, it’s a nice way to pass a couple hours and certainly not some celluloid Holocaust that people are labeling it as.

But I am very, very disheartened that Robbie's bumcheeks were CGI.

I don’t really heave the stomach out of myself to celebrities anymore, but that was one that would have gotten the pause/fwd slo-mo x16 treatment on my media player, had they been legit.

To be fair, I should delete my "right director" comment from my last post as you're completely right. From what I saw none of the faults I found would fall on him.

Regarding Robbie's arse CGI, I think the CGI was for the TV spots to cover up her arse, rather than the other way around.

  16. Finally managed to watch Suicide squad last night and all in all enjoyed it. I thought the entire cast were very good with what they had to play with, but the flaws were obvious and already mentioned.

The soundtrack just pissed me off as it was just unrelenting. There was no pacing and sense to the songs used and seemed just shoved in in an attempt to try and copy the guardians formula. I actually liked most of the songs but they just took away from the actual scene.

Leto's Joker suffered from shocking editing though. For me the way the Joker sporadically popped in and out of the story on top of the pounding soundtrack or visuals that often accompanied his scenes took away from his performance. His appearances had no build up and I believe that with the right editing his performance would have been a hell of a lot creepier than it came across.

I think with the correct editing Leto could eventually become a very good Joker.

  17. That Kong trailer was the bollocks, and I found myself smiling during the Justice League trailer, so job done there.

My mate was over at SDCC and he said the Thor Ragnarok documentary thing was hilarious and incredible in equal measures. He spoiled a few things on me, and it sounds glorious, truth be told.

I’m going to Suicide Squad on Thursday at 1030pm.

    Fin.

Not another early showing Banquers you bastard.

I'm livid that I'm holiday for 2 weeks in Spain from Sunday and won't get to see it till w/c 15th August at the earliest. Taking the kids for their first trip abroad but my other half's family are going to be there and they are bunch of fucking idiots.

Let us know how it is. Personally, I think it's going to be superb.

  18.

To be fair, that's pretty standard in my experience of UFC events. Fuck all happens apart from a shit load of awful adverts for future events. I'm not really sure what entertainment you expect between fights to be honest? They expect people to go to the bar for drinks etc.

In relation to the pricing, I think it was too high to begin with, but losing Kimbo and the co-main with Koscheck hurt the event badly too.

It was actually the first time I've watched an entire Bellator main card in it's entirety and really enjoyed it. MVP is just so good and as you mentioned, Thompson has got some chin on him.

What entertainment do I expect? A shit load of awful adverts for future events!

No, fair point. It definitely seemed worse to me then UFC London earlier in the year though. I just thought they could stick a few hype interviews on the big screens, highlights for upcoming fighters, that sort of thing. Basically what the UFC did at UFC London. Instead it was just a silent arena with nothing happening for large periods.

If it was nothing but dead air that's certainly an odd one. As mentioned even shitty ads provides a bit of background noise to drown out the silence of the arena.
