  1. Jesus Christ. That episode just ripped a hole in my chest unlike any TV I've ever seen. I've got that sinking feeling in my gut which is just quite bizarre really.

I actually don't really know where to begin with it. Easily the best episode of Breaking Bad there's ever been and I think the best episode of any TV show that I've ever seen too.

Edit, I only just realised the awesome Rian Johnson (Looper and Brick) directed this episode.

  2. I have a question, at the start of s2 ep 5, two guys climb out the river and find Tucos grill in glass that was given to hank as a gift in the mud. Have I missed how that got there?

I think and I repeat I think that this is a flash forward and it explains how it got there at the end of the episode. Have you finished the episode yet?

It's a flash forward to later in the season where SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read

Hank throws it into the river because he feels guilty (I think it was guilt, it was something).

I may be wrong, but I'm sure its at the end of the same episode, not later in the season. They normally use bigger subplots for that type of flash forward?

Again, I could be wrong though.

  3. i'm not so sure, it's gotten to the point now where Walt will do anything to cover his tracks and or save his future. Even if he meant the hug, it doesn't really mean shit when you consider what Walt has put Jesse through.

The Walt thing is really interesting, it's divided the audience. I've been reading lots of articles related to the show that are very much anti-Walt, but when i scour facebook and see random comments it appears that a lot of people are very much still on Walt's side, which is weird when you think about it.

Regarding the hug, I do see your point, but if that were the case the camera would never have focussed on Walt's face during the embrace. If it were simply Walt doing anything to save his own bacon, showing his visibly grief stricken face when only the audience can see and not Jesse wouldn't make sense.

Walt is doing everything to save his family and himself, but despite all of his games there has always been this bond between the two.

And the stuff with the Walt love. It was always going to be this way. At times I've screamed at the TV "you twat!" but overall I still love Walt. He's the star of the show. Its a bit like Tony Soprano, he did some awful shit, but you still love him. Walt for me will always be that guy stumbling out of the RV in his underwear, in a gas mask, and confessing his love for his family on a hand held camera.

Again though, this is what the writers are going for, it questions your morality.

  4. Not to sound like a smart are but I instantly got it. However I've definitely been helped by watching the series twice over in such a short space of time (once myself, and then once with my wife) so its very much fresh in my mind.

There's one thing I disagree with in the first article regarding Jesse. I don't believe for one second that the hug was Walt's attempt to manipulate Jesse. At the start of that scene I believe Walt is playing his little games, but when Jesse finally breaks down Walt finally just gives in and gives him this hug that was Walt finally apologising to Jesse without actually really giving it. There was real warmth from Walt as he knows its all his fault.

  5. I'm a bit confused...Jessie knows Brock wasn't poisoned by the ricin so why was he so angry when he realised the ricin was taken by Saul?

He realised that Walt set him up to hate Gus I believe? Or something along those lines.

To be honest, its not reallt Gus at all. Jesse always knew Gus was bad news. It's simply he put a child's life at risk as despite it not being Ricin, it as still poisonous. Jesse knows that Walt's been using him to simply protect himself. The real sadness is that you.could see that Walt truly cares about Jesse with the hug they shared. The problem is its all coming too late.

Regarding the episode, truly wonderful. TV really gets no better than this. I can't wait till Xmas to buy the whole boxset on blu ray.

Walt's so called confession was epic. I didn't expect him to do that at all. Amazing shit.

  6. Personally I think Affleck is a superb choice. I feel sorry for him that most people are criticising the decision as a poor one based on Daredevil. He wasn't bad as Daredevil, it was just a pretty poor film with him being the only redeeming part. The direction was shocking, dialogue abysmal and the rock soundtrack terrible.

His recent performances in the town and Argo have been nothing short of stunning and those two roles in particular show a rougher side to him that he can translate into Batman.

Out of everyone out there right now I think he's the best choice. Certainly on form at least.

  7. I wonder what the big set piece will be for these last few episodes. There's usually something mid season that racks up the tension and has you clutching the cushions and shouting at the screen (Hank and the twins, Gus taking out the cartel, Train heist, evidence control room etc...)

    Hank finding Walt's book...

For the Last few episodes, ie the ones yet to air.

  8. I think it's safe to say after 2 episodes that we are in safe hands as far as the climax goes, there's no way they will drop the ball with this.

I also can't for the life of me see how this is going to end. It's all such a mess now. Also, aren't Hank and Marie complicit as they have been using Walt's drug money to pay for Hanks treatment? That just complicates it further.

Only Marie knows that they used Walt's money. As far as he's concerned his insurance paid for it. Still not sure how he didn't realise this though? But, you're right, they are both guilty of using drug money, even if Marie comes clean and tells Hank.

  9. Agree with TripleA. A fantastic episode, but after that final scene from last week, this week had everything except that epic moment. Although Hank with Skyler in the diner was extremely high in tension.

As mentioned above this ep was there to set up for following ep. Its crazy, I have no idea what direction they are going to go with this? This week waiting though is killing me.

  10. Watched it last night, absolutely tremendous. The reversal of power between Hank & Walt was beautifully done, Hank refusing to look him in the eye when Walt first showed up at Hanks was brilliant. Also, Walt's slow transformation into Gus, from his no selling to Lydia when she turned up at the car wash 'Have an A1A day' to him methodically folding a towel for his knees when he was throwing up, fantastic.

I watched the last 2 episodes of the previous batch in preparation for the return but there was something mentioned in last nights episode that I think I may have missed or forgotten previously? When Lydia was at the car wash & said that the meth he was supplying was only 67% pure. Do we know why that's the case yet?

Pretty straight forward Mike. Walt says he left the business in the hands of others, presumably Todd and his crew. They just can't cook as well as Walt. No one can.

  11. Fantastic ending after a slow build.

One thing, I'm a little bored of Jesse being all down and depressed with his five million dollars. Also, I'm pretty sure at this point we aren't supposed to be rooting for Heseinberg, but I am. I love that guy.

I'm off to Spain in a couple days so although I will miss 2-3 episodes, I will have 2-3 to watch when I get back. I hate waiting week-to-week for shows.

I think that's the point. The writers know we as an audience have a vested interest in Walt and Heisenberg. It totally depends on the person. Everyone loves a good bad guy in the end. There's no one answer really.

  12. I've just amended the title so there's no spoiler discussion until it's aired on Netflix UK. Seems like the best way to do it.

That final scene! That punch! Perfectly done.

    'Tread Carefully.'

Seems a bit bizarre Chilly. It airs in the US I'm guessing midnight time on the sunday, and it's available in the morning here in the UK a few hours later?

If you're that desperate to watch it and somehow watch it in the US, then there's only a few hours difference here. On top of that, there's no specific airdate/time on netflix so it's a bit hard to really check.

Eg I watch it in the morning on Netflix, and you watch it when you get home in the evening.

Personally, as soon as you've seen it this place should be ok. If you come in here say monday morning without watching the latest ep and get it spoiled, that's that person's fault.

  13. Hank's complete reversal of power was fantastic. One minute he's got Walt bang to rights and then the next Walt has told him he has no chance of going to prison, then Walt leans in and says "tread lightly".

The Star Trek speech I thought would have been great if counter-measured by something. When Jesse walked away I was sure it was leading to him trying to shoot himself or something, but it never. Made the Star Trek speech seem a little on it's own.

    But yeah, great returning episode.

I'm not sure what the problem is with the Star Trek speech? Yes, it was light humour, but it's there for two reasons. Firstly, it displayed perfectly Jesse's mental state. He's numb to it all and showed that he had zero interest in the world around him. Secondly, it's light humour and gives the viewer a little breathing space from the full on scenes that came before and after it.

    .

  14. SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read

"Your best course of action would be to tread lightly"

Spine tingling final scene. I even let out a squeal as Hank brought the garage door down. What a way to start the last eight episodes. I didn't think they'd dive into the Walt and Hank confrontation so soon, but other than that fucking Star Trek conversation, a fine opening episode.

I can't believe I gotta wait another week now :(

I don't think you need to spoiler tag, this is US/UK pace as they are released almost at the same time. On top of that you've talked about the scene anyway?

Just finished the ep. Unbelievable episode. As you say, the final scene was just nerve shredding. In fact the whole episode was truly TV perfection as I found myself having that feeling of dread (in a good way) watching the whole thing, like the shit is truly about to hit the fan.

The opening sequence as well shed some more light on where Walt will end up and obviously with his neighbour dropping that shopping bag it shows that something massive is about to happen.

    What a show.

  15. My brother's a cunt. He text me the results of the Mo and Babalu fights this morning and being half asleep, I'd read it before I realised what I was actually reading. I'm livid.

Haha. I watched the Mo fight online this morning and his knock out is fucking a thing of beauty. Have yet to see the rest of the card though so I think I will give it a watch on Friday.
  16. Well, I finally got into breaking bad and watched season 1 throughout my honeymoon (on the plane etc). This was end of April time and I've now just finished Season 5A. I can't really add anything more except this is the greatest TV show that's ever been made.

Everything about it is simply genius. Problem now though is the wait. I'm used to ploughing through 3/4 eps at a time!

The highlights have been endless so far but I don't think many can beat the camera panning around to reveal Gus's half blown up body at the end of season 4. Utterly speechless.

  17. to be fair, it aint hard to get hold of these shows the morning after they air. Dont let the lack of a UK tv deal stop you from watching.

Well, to be fair, I downloaded the majority of ufc and strike force last year so that's not really the issue. I guess when I really think about it it's actually the tournament format. I've never really liked it.

When the next one airs I will give it a go. I never even got around to watching mo's debut either. Also, the more I read about Shlemenko the more I like him.
