First Trailer for Speilbergs Tintin is up. TinTin

Visually it looks like The Polar express but with the talent behind it i'm hoping its going to be good

I'm actually a little disappointed, I didn't realise this was gonna be animated :\

I think that's the only way to really do it. For me at least anyway. I'd hate to see a real life version, it was attempted with Asterix and it was horrible. Plus the animation looks better than I expected it to so I'm a happy camper. The script's written by an impressive bunch of people, Jackson's directing and the cast is pretty star studded, I think it looks like a promising film. It'll be nice to see it at the cinema anyway. And if it all blows up I'll just buy myself the boxset of the old TinTin series I used to watch on TV as a kid.

Speilberg is directing, Peter Jackson is doing the sequel / second part

The trailer for the remake of

is also doing the rounds. Looks like they've moved away from quite a lot of the original film (Jerry attacking the whole family, Ed being the one who thinks Jerry is a vampire) Also theres a distinct lact of Peter Vincent in the trailer, he pops up for about 1sec, don't know if that is an indication of his role in the film but will be interesting to see. Hope it keeps the humour of the original
  3. It is being released through Go faster Stripe, they are putting a third of the money up for it. According to Herrings twitter (and the original interview with Stewart Lee) they both thought the second series of FOF was quite a drop in quality, I wonder how they see TMWRNJ?

Hopefully if it does well and makes them some money they will be able to buy the rights or BBC will release it

  4. Stewart Lees Comedy Vehicle is back on tonight (BBC2, probably at 23:20) and Stewart Lee has announced that Richard Herring has bought the rights to Fist of Fun from the BBC (For

  5. Went out to see:

    Thor

TO be honest i wasnt expecting a whole lot, i just had this idea it was going to be really really bad. But thankfully i was wrong! I wont go to much into it, as its a fairly new release, and some guys will want to see it, but i personally think it has been made in the best possible way that it could of been made. Visually, it is stunning. The story is also good, as to be hoenst i didnt know the first thing about the Marvel univeres thor (i had a rough idea of the mythology side of thor), and it all came through rather well.

Its also packed with little notes for the geeks to pick up on. (References/Appearences from other charecters etc), and otherwise also has a bit more footage after the credits!

So overall, quite good, not the best movie ever, but by far not the worst superhero movie of all time either. Worth a watch!

    8/10

Same here, had a rough idea to the whole mythology as well and I thought it was really good too, the way they manage to shift the movie from Asgard to Earth and back etc is handled well considering the need to integrate this movie into the slightly more realistic Iron Man & Incredible Hulk world.

    Visually it

  6. Watched Magic (1978) for the first time in years. I think it suffered from marketing itself as a horror film on its original release when its really a character piece for Hopkins, who turns in an amazing performance. For anyone thats never seen it Hopkins plays a failing magician who gains success (and confidence) after using a ventriloquist dummy in his act which starts to play more and more of a role in his life. Its one of those great little films that only has half a dozen people in it and not a single bad performance, Burgess Meredith giving a great turn in his few scenes. Not a classic by any means but cracking performances and a tight screenplay from William Goldman (who is just a legend)

  7. Hey chokeout, can you give spoiler details on the random cameo please? I know who it is, I just want to know what happens, what the costume looks like, etc. Thanks.

Jeremy Renner turns up as Hawkeye when Thor tries to get into the SHIELD compound. Its only a few short shots (to be honest it looks like it was filmed after the rest of the film) Coulson radios for someone to stop Thor from a distance and it cuts to someone looking through a rack of Sniper Rifles and grabbing a Bow. He gets into a lift and is looking down on Thor beating the shit out of a SHIELD goon waiting for Coulson to give the order then says something along the lines of 'You better let me shoot soon cause im starting to like this guy' A nice little cameo for anyone that likes Hawkeye. No costume as such, hes dressed as a more special forces looking SHIELD agent, am hoping for something that is a mix of that and the traditional purple/ pointed helmet look.

Theres a few scenes in the hall of Artifacts / Odins treasure room, The Infinity Gauntlet is in there, possibly setting up the Skrull being the baddies in the Avengers and The Cosmic cube from Captain America turns up with Nick Fury after the credits

  8. Is that the one that drops the horrible Facebook reference in the trailer? If so, it sucks that she does it throughout the entire film.

She only has a few scenes and is easy to ignore.

Just got back from Thor and have to say it's very well done. As mentioned it was the easiest of the marvel films to make a mess of but they managed to make it work. No idea how much they cut out for pacing (it's on for 2 hours) bur rene Russo literally has 3 lines of dialogue and the warriors 3 are mainly background characters but it's very enjoyable. Wont spoil it but the random cameo wasn't needed but was a cool addition

  9. Christ, he's not on the comic book shite now, is he? He should be trying to get AWOL developed into a full length film instead of pissing around with Ironman.

Hes co-writing/Directing it I should imagine that when Ironman makes silly money, which it will do no matter how good a job he does they let him make whatever he wants. The guy knows how to write a good action flick so im looking forward to what he comes up with

  10. (Monster Squad)

Havent seen that in years, always thought of uit as the Goonies meets a Horror Film, Enjoyable nonetheless

It just stopped showing up on TV about 10 years ago. Its been re-released on DVD / Blu Ray as an anniversary edition a few years ago and has been turning up on Sky recently. Can't wait to see what Shane Black manages to do with Ironman 3

  11. He's great in The Princess Bride and he's the (non-singing I think) voice of Jack Skellington. He may have had a fairly humdrum career but he's played some good roles.

Just saw that having a looksie at IMDB, never knew about the Jack Skellington thing (as well as all the Kingdom hearts games) He seems to have been in straight to DVD and TV hell since :(

  12. Fright Night was one of the films I was thinking of. It's fantastic but actually I remember the sequel being really good. Chris Sarandon's career should never have nose-dived the way it did.

The thing about Fright Night is that it is, basically, a horror film but they have a few tongue-in-cheek moments that make it not take itself too seriously. I think that's always the best way to go with these things. The Fearless Vampire Killers is also a great example of this.

I was actually going to mention that in my earlier post, The Jewish vampire scene in particular and that was back in the mid 60s. What happened to Saradon to cause the career nose dive, was there a major turkey or was he just one of those guys that just never hit the big time.

  13. The world didn't need a Scream 2 or 3 let alone Scream 4. It barely needed the first one. Shitty arsed repetitive and dull franchise.

Horror comedy isn't an easy genre to pull off though, in all fairness, and when you think about it there really haven't been THAT many examples down the years of films that have successfully pulled it off. Mostly they end up managing to do neither the comedy nor the horror very successfully. I've even soured to Shaun Of The Dead over the last couple of years.

I actually re-watched the original Fright Night last night after seeing the screen shots for the remake and have to say it still stands up as a great film. There seemed to be a slew of these knowing horror films in the mid 80's (Monster Squad, Fright Night, The Lost boys) although people seem to think that the original Scream invented the genre. Chris Sarandon plays a great smug bastard (see also The Princess Bride) Am thinking about watching its sequel tonight but i remember it being shit

  14. A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: Well lets face it, its a shit film. They bring back the surviving characters from the last film purely as a plot point and kill them off with little fan fare, dont try amd expand on any of the Freddy backstory the last film tried to add and just go back to random deaths and poor comedy. Only plus side is some good effects from Screaming Mad George who made a living in the 80s with his cool body horror effects (See the underated Society which is a feature length showreel for him) On to number 5 tonight which i remember being a step up from this one

Also watched Due Date Its a medicore film with 2 major flaws. 1) Its basically a remake of Plains, Trains and Automobiles. Its been mentioned before but its not just a passing coincidence. And 2) They have managed to create 2 lead characters so unlikeable that you just dont care about them at all. Seriously, neither character has any redeeming qualities. Downey Jr's character is an expecting father and when he is left in a room with a child that wont behave he punches the kid, good luck growing up in that house. More importantly its just not funny. It fails as a buddy comedy, fails as a stoner comedy and am surprised RDJ decided to be in it.

  15. Just finished A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. Far better than the second film (not that difficult) mainly i suspect because Craven was back to do the screenplay along with Frank Darabont. This is basically the blueprint for all the films that followed, Freddy gets more jokey, more elaborate set pieces and comedy and over the top deaths. The whole Dream Warriors plot is basically only 20minutes of the film (Oh we all have powers......oh we're all dead), ignores the second and brings back all the characters from the original, including the awesome John Saxon. On number 4 now (Which I remember hating)

  16. What does everyone think of last years Elm remake? Having only seen the original movies when I was about 11 at a mates house and being shit scared I quite liked it, the way the back story was told was quite lame and unimaginative but for me most part is was quite a good, polished horror film, which is how I like em.

Its shit and has zero redeeming features. I watched it last week (may have actually posted about it at the time.) It can't seem to decide if its a shot for shot remake or a 'reboot' (hate that phrase) The Freddy pushing through the wall shot is horrible, soft CGI and actually makes it look more dated than the original effect. With most of the remakes they just seem to settle for jump cuts and loud musicial cues for cheap scares

  17. Currently working my way through all the Nightmare on Elm Street films followed by all the Friday 13th film.

I remember excitedly getting my hands on the Friday 13th box set afew years back coz i'd only seen the odd one and felt I was largely missing out on some quality horror history. How wrong was I?! Absolute crap! And even the 'better' ones couldn't hold a candle to the likes of Halloween. Saying that, I didn't mind the recent remake afew years ago. Which was a surprise considering im not too keen on new horror films and/or remakes

I think all the Slasher films are a product of their time. The first Halloween film is fantastic and is one of my all time favs and theres rightly a huge love for John Carpenter on here but the sequels were mainly shit (apart from Season of the witch which was actually quite a cool film and H2O with its scream style self referencing) I actually prefer the Friday 13th films over The Nightmare films, always have done. The Friday films actually always remained slasher films, Nightmare tried throwing all sorts of gimmicks into the mix and slowly fell more and more into comedy. Friday 13th mainly stayed with Jason fucking people up in more and more elaborate/stupid ways. My fav will always be machete in the head to the lad in the wheelchair in part 2, followed by pushing him down the stairs Pow, right in the kisser (A close second would be punching the boxers head off in Jason Takes Mahattan with aFalcon Punch )

  18. Currently working my way through all the Nightmare on Elm Street films followed by all the Friday 13th film. Been 9 years since i watched them all one after another for my dissertation so have forgotten how bad some of them are. First Nightmare film still holds up quite well. Some of the effects still look great ( Both scenes with the rotating room are amazing and Freddy streaching through the wall pisses all over the CGI version in the remake.) There are some effects that just look shit now but thats to be expected and Freddy is a lot more of a bumbling twat than I remember him being.

Watched A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2 last night and it is just shit. Freddy has about 10 minutes of screen time. The whole film has the most blatent gay subtext of all time which apparently no one picked up on at the time and theres a scene where a parrot explodes for no reason(possibly through gayness, im unsure). Dream Warriors tonight which is the first film when they start pushing the comedy into the franchise

  19. I watched the remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street the other day. It has zero redeeming features, its just terrible. Studios are becoming too dependant on CGI gore which never has the same impact as physical effects. I would honestly say that the effects in the original are more realistic. The film lacks any genuine scares and relies on shitty 'jump cut, loud noise' edits which seems to have become the formula for 90% of the horror being made now

  20. Mannequin is fast becoming one of my favourite films. I've watched it 6-7 times in recent months, and it just seems to encapsulate everything I want in a film from the 80s.

Mannequin is the second best 80s film about having sex with something you shouldn't. Obviously the best is Weekend at Bernies
