Double Dragon - The Movie
Â
Have never got round to watching this, I remember seeing a trailer for it on either Bad Influence or Games Master years ago.
Anyway it was on one of the dodgy movie channels on sky the other day and it was crap-tastic. The fact that they had they guy from Party of 5 as one of the brothers who seemed to have zero martial arts skills was just stupid casting, Their 2nd mistake was having Mark Dacacos and giving him some of the worst fights ever seen in an action flick, its sub Hero turtles! Oh and Robert Patrick as one of the gayest bad guys of all time. Still Alyssa Milano looks hot in it.

Rambo
Â
Pretty much exactly what I expected but a lot more gory. The film drags everytime there is any attempt at dialogue, which luckily is not often, the script is clunky and forced and the action is overly graphic to the point that it becomes cartoony. The actual images of genocide at the begining is actually insulting, as if they are trying to make a statement with this film when in fact all it is is a throwback to the guns and ammo films of the 80's. Whereas Rocky Balboa captured the spirit of the original Rocky, this film leans more towards Rambo III than First Blood.
Â
First Blood
Â
I know this film seems to divide people but i genuinely love it and think that with a different actor in the lead role could have been a genuine oscar contender when it was released.
Sly is good enough in the lead role though and this film is still one of his best performances to date

Wasn't that impressed with this film. The problem with Will Ferrell films is that he needs a good supporting cast to play off and this film just didn't have it, in fact I cant say that any of the cast stood out, Woody Harrilson seemed to just be going through the motions. The comedy commentators thing has been done to death and Fred Willards performance in Best in show has still not been bettered

I don't think the Warrior was ever invvited to appear on the show, in fact i dont think he has any contact with WWE at all anymore and is very critical of them.Matt Strikers gimick in 3PW was doing impressions of wrestlers (some of which were excellent) When he did the Warrior impression on Byte this he used the word 'Faggot' a LOT which caused a lot of heat , he also made not very subtile references to Warrior being off his tree on steroids. The official reasoning to the show being canned was because it wasn't cost effective to produce, even though it was green screened in a studio they own for the viewing figures they recieved but im sure the above points contributed in a small way
Might have some details wrong; but the gist of it (I think) is they invited Ultimate Warrior on to discuss the dvd Ultimate Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior. He refused and made some comments along the line of I'm not going on that show with a cripple and a fag (Droz & Josh). So Matt Striker appeared on the show dressed up as Warrior and took the piss, but apparently he went to far so they "rested" the show. Also because the show was live I'm sure people used to phone up about TNA.Why did WWE.com stop doing Byte This?

just bought an Xbox 360 with 8 games and am trying to play through them all at once
Â
Kane & Lynch : Dead men
Â
From what I read in reviews this game is pretty much what I expected, the targeting is way off on it and the gameplay is really repetative but its fun in a pick up and play kind of way. It really does feel like they've just made a cut doen version of Hitman and tried to add a really weak squad element to it.
Â
Call of Duty 4
Â
Everyone knows this game rules, Single player is great (If a little short) and Multiplayer is fantastic, everything to be said about this game has already been posted, although im gutted theres no Co-Op mode
Â
Rockstar Table Tennis
Â
Seriously, this game is like Crack to me, an awesome learning curve, spot on controls and reminds me on Virtua Tennis on the Dreamcast, which still stands up as one of the best muliplayer games of the last decade for pure fun.
Â
Rainbow Six:Vegas
Â
Already completed this on my flatmates 360 so haven't really played it again yet, will probably try and get round to playing through again for the gamer points
Â
Fifa 08
Â
Played it, Hate it, I'll probably trade it in for PES sometime this week
Â
Perfect Dark:Zero
Â
Can't get into it, I was a fan off the original on the N64 but something really bugs me about this game, might just be cause i've got used to playing COD4
Â
Assasins Creed
Â
Had a quick go through it and seems like a cool game, controls are very reminisant of Prince of Persia, will try and have a proper go this weekend
Â
Smackdown vs Raw 2008
Â
Already completed it on the PS2 so haven't really had a go, controls are identical and it has the same glitches and rushed feel of the Playstation version

Dont think they cut it but theu did change where it was on the card but i think that was on TWC

SPOILERS U TOOL!thats not a review thats the plot, there's a subtle difference.Watched 3 films on Sat because i was stuck at my parents house because of the weather.Death Sentence - I believe this is based on the actual source novel which was used as the basis for the Charles Bronson film 'Death Wish' although its slightly more restrained then that film. I've never been a big fan of Kevin Bacon, I've liked films hes been in but something about him bugs me, possibly his piggy nose.Anyway film was ok, pretty unspectacular with nothing that really stands.Shoot 'Em Up - Wall to wall gun fights for 90min, A few good ideas but its pretty much a waste of a great cast, There is no real script to speak of, apart from half a dozen or so one Liners, half of which miss the mark. It was pretty much what i expected and nothing more but the gunfights had none of the impact of a film like Leon or The Killer and the editing didn't really help the action.Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix - I've watched all the Potter films but haven't read the books so aren't sure what they cut out plotwise but it all seemed a bit rushed, still a good family film and my mum even stayed awake till the end, a feat that I have only witnessed a handful of times in my lifeJuno - My brother stuck it on and watching the first couple of minutes I was going to do something else with my time but stuck it out and it's quite an enjoyable film. A 16 year old girl, Juno, get's pregnant after sleeping with her best friend, bleaker, and decides she doesn't want the baby. At first she decides she will have an abortion but decides against and agrees to have the baby for a couple. They are polar oppposites and ending up splitting near the end but the woman still get's the baby and Juno and Bleaker decide they are more than best friends. It's like a cross between a romantic film and a less tardy version of Napolean Dynamite.

Watched Death Proof on Sunday night, Really enjoyed it but I can see how its divided people, considering QT was marketing it as a slasher on wheels there

I started my annual 'run up to Christmas xmas movie marathon' two weeks ago
Â
Viewed so far have been
Â
Elf- First time I saw this I was quite disappointed and I don't know why, think I must have been expecting more from Ferrell but I've seen it 3 times now and it really is a great family christmas film, its well acted and Zooey Deschanel is just Hot!
Â
Scrooged- Bill Murray AND Bobcat Goldthwait in the same film! still one of my fav christmas films
Â
National Lampoons xmas vacation- Just a Stupid film that has enough laughs to get you through it, I used to be obsessed with the Lampoon films when I was younger and nostalgia has kept this one a fav.
Â
Its a Wonderful Life - One of the greatest films of all time, It HAS to be watched, but only in the month of December, otherwise you're gay!
Â
Gremlins - Watched it, then the next day it was on tv, I hate it when that happens
Â
Santa Claus the Movie - I Hate this film, I hated it when I was little and I hate it even more now, this and Ernest saves christmas are two films that make me turn off the telly at christmas, something that is nye on impossible (My housemate got to choose the film we watched in case anyone was wondering why I watched it)

Was watching some brawl for all fights last night on youtube (Steve Blackman rules). On the Bart Gunn Bob Holly fight Shawn Michaels is on Commentary and Him and Jim Ross are making digs at WCW and their PPv the night before, what PPV was it and what was so bad about it (bearing in mind the general shittyness of their shows at the time it must have been pretty bad to be commented on so much)
-
I know I'm opening a can of worms here but how exactly do you define a genre so specifically. I can see your logic that itTo be fair Saw isn't really a horror though is it? It's no more than a thriller thats tries to be as gory as possible. I would call it a Gorno but there isn't really a porno aspect to it. I guess yr response to the film depends on how you perceive it, I watched it purely to see how innovative the deaths would be and from that aspect I was relatively satisfied.
-
Went to see Saw 4, Just a terrible film, Have people forgotten how to make Horror films that are actually scary, I can honestly say there wasn't a single scary moment in the entire film. The director seems to thing fast edits and loud noises are geniune scares. Plus they seem to be struggling for twists which they feel the need to crowbar in and then kill people with zero characterization and expect the audience to care, just utter utter shit and I can honestly say I barely ever say that about a film
-
Possibly the greatest butchering of a film I have ever seem was when I watched this on ITV about 10 years ago, when they showed the training montage they cut out the drugs scenes in Dragos training which basically made it look like he was just better at training than Rocky, think I still have it on video somewhere On a side note the 2nd best piece of editing for tv was Romancing the Stone. It started at 8 at night and they dubbed and cut all the swearing and violence then as soon as 9 hit they showed everything, as if any child that had been watching it from the start would scurry off to bed at the stroke of 9.....anywayI watched The Black Dahlia last nite, a total mess of a movie, Dont get me wrong its a well made mess but Josh Harnett and Scarlett Johanssen are totally miscast and the narrative is all over the place, plus De Pama has a nasty habit of using green screen effects instead of using a wide angle lens for deep shots, no idea why he did it but it was obvious (and very off putting) in at least two scenes, very unusual for a film that has been made to resemble a 50's Noir movieAlso I saw Reeker........ Shit, just ShitMe and my bro watched Rocky IV last night. This film sees the Itallion Stallion going to Russia to fight roided' up Ivan Drago (the spine chilling Lundgren)

Purile and really, really funny, thought both stars were really good in it and had some geniuine laugh out loud moments in it.

I thought this film would be a lot better after everyone had raved about it, now their remaking it, I should imagine it'll be repeated again, I might catch it againLe diner de cons. Was flicking through the channels a few months back and came across this. It's a French comedy about a group of friends who every few weeks have a dinner party where they have to invite the biggest idiot they can find to generally take the piss out of. Anyway, before one of the parties one of the group splits up with his wife and then does his back in, she runs off and he is unable to follow. Then the idiot arrives to go to the party and gets embroiled in the guys efforts to win back his wife. Then the comedy begins with a mix of misunderstandings and very good phone oriented jokes. If you like Frasier or to a lesser extent Curb your Enthusiasm, it could be for you.

I thought he was great in the Departed, especially when he just snaps during the stakeout
-
I second that, It is easily one of the best horror films of the last 40 years and you need to buy the dvd for the awesome commentary track from Carpenter and Kurt Russell where they just get drunk, it truely rocks. As far as his other films go as much as I love his work its quite a mixed bag, The Fog is an awesome film and you should definatly try and see it.Assault on Precient 13 shows just how good a director he was, cranking the suspense up, some people complain its just a remake of Rio Bravo but who cares when its this good.Prince of Darkness is ok, but I always found it kind of a muddled film, worth checking out though.Oh and check out Elvis the Movie, the original tv edit of it, I wasn't expecting much but thought it was really good, plus it has the mighty Kurt in it!!!!The Thing is brilliant. One of the best horror movies ever made. The special effects are still incredible to this day.
-
Ha didn't say it wasn't awesome, in fact I own the soundtrack to it but you have to admit synth = 80's thats musical maths!!I just wish that when they show John Williams on the classical channel with his gigantic orchestra doing the score to Phantom Menance they would follow it up with John Carpenter in a room, on his own with his Casio keyboard on his lap playing the theme from Escape from New York....... A man can dream can't he
Fuck that. The synth score is awesome.Escape From New York is still a fantastic film and Kurt Russell will always be one of my Fav Actors, a man who has been great is so many good films. the only problem I have with the film is the synth score which really dates it
-
Oh While I remember Had a John Carpenter nite last night and watched Escape from New York and They Live, both great films with aspects that obviously haven't aged well but still hold up. While watching They live I am always genuienly stunned at how natural an actor Roddy Piper was, Ok hes never gonna win an oscar but he was charismatic and played the part to a tee, and if interviews with John Carpenter are anything to go by ad-libbed a lot of the dialogue himself. Keith David rules and his constant kneeing of Hot Rods balls to break up the fight has me laughing everytime.Escape From New York is still a fantastic film and Kurt Russell will always be one of my Fav Actors, a man who has been great is so many good films. the only problem I have with the film is the synth score which really dates it but that seems to come part and parcel with Carpenter. I got the special edition dvd which has the original opening with the robbery which does set the Snake character up a little better but I can understand why it was omitted for pacing/ changing Snake from a loner into a team player
-
This movie is just awesome and you'll be hard pressed to find a better cast, top to bottom, than this. Alec Baldwin should have gone onto greater things based on his performance in this film but it just never seemed to happen. In a career full of fantastic performances I still rate this as one of Jack Lemons best, alongside The China Syndrome although his character has been tainted slightly by the awesomness that is Gill in the SimpsonsAfter a recommendation from Mr. Seven (i think?) and seeing it pop up in a couple of 'favourite film ever' threads here and elswhere i decided to watch Glengarry Glenn Ross. Pretty amazing adaptation i have to say, every single one of the characters involved from top to bottom were so convincing it was scary but Jack Lemmon in particular was top drawer. It did seem to end very quickly though, seemed rather abrupt. I know the dialog and screenplay was that good and sequential that it tied everything up and you knew what the end outcome was with the double swerve on the robbery but it was almost teasing you to want to see a broken man get caught and how he'd handle the prospect of jail or whatever followed.I'll probably watch this again during the week on my days off as there is usually a lot of subtle touches on these films which don't sink in upon first viewing. Very impressed though.

Just watched the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Movie with my flatmate who also loves the series and my other flatmate who has never seen the show, We laughed all the way thru it, He hated every second of it, It truely is one of those love it or hate it films. It has zero plot and makes no sense but is genuinely laugh out loud hilarious.
-
I watched Disturbia on Sat, For a Teen thriller i was actually surprised at how enjoyable it was, Its not amazing by any stretch of the imagination but its a good 'popcorn' movie, Plus how anyone can get a writing credit for what is a blatent rip off of Rear Window is beyond me!
Â
I watched The Sting again on DVD last nite, Still just a fantastic film, I'd say i like Newman and Redfords performances in this better than in Butch and Sundance and Robert Shaw had just an awesome screen presence and is one of those actors that is just great no matter what hes in. The ending has been done to death so many times since this film but I still remember how great I thought this was the first time I saw it

Ummmm Australia is full of Asian communities, especially Thai and VietnameseThe Protector: Tony Jaa's follow up to Ong Bak. After thieves wound his father and steal his beloved pet elephants Kham (Jaa) must travel to Austrailia to get them back. The fight scenes are, not surprisingly, excellent, but everything else is rubbish. Even though most martial arts movies have poor scripts, this one is particularly bad. Jaa's dialogue is limited to "I want my elephants!" or "give me back my elephants!" and the rest of the plot doesn't make much sense either: the gang leader is revealed to be a transexual and there's a confusing subplot involving corrupt policeman and hookers. Also, for some reason never explained, Australia appears to be full of Asian people. Ong Bak had a bad script but at least it was easy enough to follow and it wasn't laugh out loud stupid at times. Shoddy production values don't help. Jaa needs to hook up with a decent director if he wants to best utilise his skills. And maybe next time he could play something other than a spirtual village boy heading out to the big city to retrieve something valuble to him.

Woke up late (Hey its Sunday!) and turned on the telly and Ferris Bueller's Day off was on. What a classic. I can watch that film over and over again and it still makes me laugh, It reminds how good Matthew Broderick and John Hughes were! Also Watched Orgazmo last nite, still fun in a cheap and shitty Troma films style although it rips off jokes from lots of other movies, but all is forgiven because it contains the immortal line "I don't wanna sound gay or 'nuthin but I really dig Unicorns"
