  1. As far I was aware the hogan flair things was cancelled due to poor house shows, however It is interesting to see there was more to it.

From reading both Hogan and Harts accounts it sounds like Vince just played a little game with both of them, although from what I know Brett didnt take off as a main eventer till 94 anyway and the way things worked in the early 1990s I cannot see them doing a face vs face match hogan vs brett it was not like warrior hogan. So In this case Hogans attitude seems the most logical to get the big heel fuck over and then produce some faces to come for the next few years

In regards to WM 2000 I know among others Test and Y2J have been mentioned as candidates for the 4 way. However the original main event from what I gather went from Austin Bigshow to Austin Rock to HHH Rock and then they decided to cash in on big numbers and hold the rocks win for another month at backlash.

  2. Trevor McDonald did a special on wrestling featuring clips from WWF and WCW. Might have been that. It also had Dixon on talking about using tributes and a woman complaining that a few lads on the estate gave her son a good hiding so it must have been wrestlings fault.

No it was a genuine broadcast or WCW and I watched a good 20 mins of it. it was on an obscure time so god knows what it was

  3. I have a question spurned from the C/D show thread. Back in 2000 and i'm sure around xmas holiday time (would have been Jan/Feb of 2000) I recall seeing WCW on ITV I think. Now at the time I have no idea what show it was or why it was on but I assume it was WCW Nitro or Thunder. All I remeber is them showing Hogan in red and yellow getting a kicking by some people and then not be able to make the main event. However during the main event he marches out and helps clear house.

I know that could be any Hulk Hogan moment but it was the only time I saw WCW on a terrestrial channel and it couldnt have been channel 5 as we didnt get it here back then.

Any ideas what it was or why it was randomly on ITV during the day?

  4. What a mixed up looking belt, it looks like they forgot to put the words world and wrestling on so were botched in later. The actual main plate looks nice in general however the side plates look like cheap generic belt pieces and ruin it. I think I prefer it to the last belt however, although that one was more striking memorable. My favourite was the original design they had for the majority of there ten years

  5. As stated in every magazine and when anyone makes the mistake, despite being the same and now a similar belt the WWE World title does not relate to or have any lineage with the WCW or NWA World Heavyweight Titles due to the fact the former WCW title was merged with the WWE title.

However the WWE United States title does have direct lineage to the WCW/NWA version even though the WCW US Title was unified with the IC title in 2001.

For what seem like similar circumstances is it just simply that one was announced as being the same title brought back and the other was not that makes the difference to the background or something else I am missing?

  6. Looking at the amount of seats on the floor they have a few options if they are using the theatre. They could either bring in some mobile tiered seating and put them at the sides or place the cameras on the stage and have the entrance way on the floor at the side or have it between the tiers like ECW if possible. Or finally and most likely in my opinion they will have the camera on the tier, the entrance on the stage with people sitting up at the entrances like they did at Bound for Glory and just film that

  7. How long is a piece of string I guess, at the moment sponsorship deals, the economy previous bad press and the senate run mean they are better off running a PG product as the advertisers they get pay more money and kids spend more time on the product I guess than the average young person would with so many alternatives in 2012 (very different world in 1999).

That said if it became more viable again to go in a more mature direction then I assume they would consider this direction. Whatever it is it wont be the same as the attitude era and will be something completely different

  8. No they were grey/ silver for most of the run at least up until the HD trons came in.

The Red Black Red combo was used at the last or second to last cyber sunday as well

I always think the MITB shows used green ropes but they didnt I dont think

The white ropes debuted at the first new saturday nights main event and were then used for RR07 and WM23 then not seen again for a year or so

cant think of any other colours or combos used since they started using the same ring everywhere in about 85/86

  9. Another top post, cheers - very interesting reading.

In regards to that last picture, it raises a point Ive often wondered about....

whats the story with belts being spraypainted? Obviously the gangstas and nWo did it, possibly others - does that ruin the belt, or can it be restored afterwards?

I remember when I first saw Hogan do that It seemed a bit of a shame, and wondered if that means they needed a new belt

Generally if a belt is spray painted then it is part of an angle. I can't think of any instances off the top of my head where a belt has purposely been spray painted.

Belts can be restored depending on the methods used, usually with a bit of grit, a belt can be cleaned up but if the paint has settled or ate at the plating then it would have to be stripped and re-plated, though that method is cheaper than paying for a new one.

The WCW World Heavyweight title that Hogan spray painted was the original and used since its introduction in February 1986 up until Scott Steiner switched it over in 2000. The belt had to be releathered, repaired and re-plated many times throughout its run.

    Hi Rule One

I might be missing something here in regards to what re-plating is (I figure it is just taking one of the metal shiny pieces off and putting a new one on). But isnt changing the leather and the plates many times a bit like when trigger in only fools and horses says "This broom has lasted me 25 years is only had x new handles and x new brushes". Can it really be classed as the same belt after a certain time?

  10. Why did Sid leave the WWF in 97? His Wikipedia page doesnt say why, so it was just two months after headlining Mania, and he was gone. Why?

Also, why wasnt he picked up by WCW for a whole two years? I assume it was because of the AA incident, but did AA have much stroke back then? Combined with the fact that it happened 4 years ago (a lifetime in wreatling), who had it in for Sid back then. Hogan? Bischoff? He must have had much bigger enemies than AA to not get signed in 97.

On an unrelated note, Ive been watching the Clash of the Champions comp, and have a question. What the hell happened to Lex Luger? My knowledge of early 90's WCW is poor, so how did Luger go from the guy in the match against Flair in 1990, to (two and a half years later) be The Narcissist, and never having a good match again? Even factoring in he was wrestling Flair, he still put in one hell of a shift in the match, and after it finished, I was wondering at what point did he turn from that guy, to the Luger I remember from the 90's. Was it the WWF switch, or did it happen at the end of his WCW run?

Luger had plenty of good matches after his return to WCW from the WWF. 97 in particular was a class year for Big Lex.

It is true Luger had plenty of good matches in 1997 of WCW. The problem with Luger was though that he got tired of wrestling in 1991 and only began wrestling in the WWF when the WBF collapsed and they needed to get there money from him. According to Wrestlecrap among other things I have read he realised he could get the same pop doing much less in the ring and essentially became lazy especially in his WWF run and post 1997 WCW.

  11. I dont know the legalities with the pictures and the costs but this stuff would be really cool as a book. I could see a nice full colour coffee table type book with all the pics and facts in.

  12. Its the summer shows these days I think, Premier (where they showed the tag match) in Bournemouth during the winter/ spring shows tends to get a packed house with 300+ people there often, come summer season you have 6 weeks to choose from if your not adie hard to go and your regulars are divided. You get some tourist footfall which brings the crowed up a bit but not as much as It is for a one off show. Thats how I see it anyway. I think the shows that were quite empty for WAW were summer season shows if I was watching properly?

The other WAW show they aired was packed

  13. Thans Rule One another interesting read, I always assumed the US tile from NWA/ Mid atlantic was absorbed into WCW and had the same lineage glad to expand my knowledge. No worries on the WWF stuff imagine thats a big job

  14. A lot of people state Anarchy Rulez 1999 as ECW's best ever PPV. It had there largest crowed and was a good card from top to bottom at the show.

However not knowing ECW that well when it was on I actually feel as an event on paper before the show the card wasn't spectacular.

In terms of build up - during the PPV era I guess Heatwave 1998 with Taz Vs Bam Bam, Guilty as Charged 1999 Douglas Vs Taz in a long awaited title match or even the first PPV Barley Legal have some right with the storylines or meaning of the show to argue the place of Anarchy Rulez 1999

EDIT: re read your question and definitely have to go with Anarchy Rulez

  15. I though the show was brilliantly done, I've seen a lot of all of the nights bar Britani over the years at various shows up and down the country and it was nice to put them all together as a family. It didn't pry into there private lives too much or try and make the business out to be a joke. It was great to show the hard times of the business as well by showing how bad some houses can be and Ricky talking to Saraya about having to make up the wages. I have a lot of respect forte sacrifices they must have made over the years to keep shows running. On the other side it was great to see some packed houses on the show to.

My only criticism was they referred to Bournemouth as East Bourne on the show I believe, knew it was the Pavillion as soon as they showed the ring.

  16. Very obvious ones but I would love to see one about the WWWF/WWF/WWE title and the Intercontinental title. I love all the little facts and I have never really been able to find out much about the belts pre 1985

  17. I really see after his first couple of months Angle as a tweener slowly moving into a heel in 2007 during his feud with Joe. By the time the NWA were dropped and the TNA title created at Slammiversary he was pretty much full blown heel. He then stayed that way through his feud with Sting and then through to the end of the main event mafia in October 09 when he announced that he realised it was all about the younger guys and they had his respect, following this he was attacked by Desmond Wolfe

  18. Can anyone recommend some Japanese wrestling to watch? Either matches, individuals or promotions? Quite ashamedly, I've never properly watched any. :/

There are plenty of people to answer this question more qualified than me but I will give you some help if I can. Also theres loads of Japanese wrestling threads on here if you search some with results and photos which may help you decide.

If you want big budget stuff then New Japan Pro Wrestling is probably the best place to start, good mix in the roster and have used a lot of former WWE, former and current TNA stars as well as better known people from the US indys. The undercards are always fun with a mix of tag, Jr Heavweight and heavy hitting singles normally.

All Japan Pro Wrestling is also meant to be hitting a stride at the moment but I havent watched much. Noah from a few years ago as well is worth looking at (pre Misawa's death)

From the smaller leagues (who are usually so much better produced than US indys) I really like Zero 1, watched a string of shows from 07 recently and found every match enjoyable

Other promotions I know of that I would recommend include DDT, Big Japan for death match stuff and some Michinokou Pro .
