  1. Disagree about Dylan and Electric Folk, I'd say other artists who had covered his songs with electric guitars influenced him to give it a shot.  Dylan isn't really that influential, he was the next step in the road from Guthrie to Rambling Jack Elliott.  Dylan was great for a time but he wasn't a game changer.

EDIT - @Lion_of_the_Midlands He is now, but Pete Waterman was doing it first, that's why I mentioned SAW as being influential and game changing.

You honestly think Presley, King, and Dylan were just great artists and not influential?

Presley was, granted, but the other two didn't change pop culture or music the way The Beatles, Kraftwerk or Moroder have.

  3. You bunch of Smiths amateurs.  I sneer at you in a condescending manner.  Anyone worth their salt knows Golden Lights was the worst moment in Smiths history.

Also, stop confusing being a great artist with influence and legacy.  Honestly, that list Bombcar posted? A case can be made for them being as influential as The Beatles, Kraftwerk or Moroder?  Stock Aitken and Waterman are more influential on modern music than Janis Joplin.

Record Hyping, I imagine. Nice little earner for the store manager. There's an interesting World in Action about the practise on youtube.

Is that the one where Roger Cook tried to get Edwina Currie's daughter a hit?  Fucking hell, I even remember the name of the band and the song.  Mojams - You Could Do Magic.

I still fucking hate M People and that fucking song though.  DJ Shovel is a big Arsenal fan as well if you hadn't guessed. The prick.

Nah, I don't know about that. It could be coincidence of course that I guessed they were from Manchester but I definitely put it more down to the loose beats - like how you had loose beats in something like Fools Gold.

Mike Pickering of M People was one of the main DJs at The Hacienda so there is that link.  However, they could have been L People and still released the same generic pop in my opinion.  I worked for a high street record shop in the early 90s and I think one of my reasons for hating M People, aside for the awfulness of their music, was reps were pushing "How Can I Love You More" seemingly every 2 months.  I once asked "Can't they just accept their shit song isn't going to be a hit" and the rep and store manager looked horrified.  There was clearly some agenda, bar selling records, to make M People a success by the industry.

It's clear you don't like my opinions on football, you'd pretty much downvote me for posting anything in previous threads,

I never knew paido's could see exactly who down voted them, that sounds fun and is why it should be brought back.

Teedy, what is the vibe like amongst Wolves fans?  As you alluded to, it must be really exciting for you.

  7. I do think Manchester has become just like Liverpool in the sense that it glorifies the past and hasn't produced anything groundbreaking since.  I have another.

The Beatles are not the most influential band of the last 100 years.

Weird - could've sworn Led were from Birmingham. OK, consider my point destroyed.

Been looking at Manchester's output versus Liverpool's on Wiki - looks like you're right there, Keith. Although I'd say considering only "trailblazers" is a very limiting criterion; there are plenty other bands that maybe influenced a lot of people, but weren't necessarily doing something unprecedented.

Fair enough, trail blazing should be limited to the Hucknalls and Blacks of the world.

I was meaning in terms of influence.  Whether you like the music or not, I'd say Joy Division, New Order, Stone Roses/Happy Mondays, Factory records and the Hacienda, The Smiths, Oasis et al have all had a cultural impact as well as a musical influence.  I don't think any other UK city has that depth.  As good as Echo And The Bunnymen were, I don't think they were as an important band as the ones listed.

I love the hope you fuck up and disappear comments, nowt like people having fear of what could be coming.

Yes, Us Coventry fans are terrified at the thought of Wolves becoming the best league 1-2 yoyo club.

I'm probably wrong on this but regarding the "Shop window for agents" thing, didn't Man Utd signing Bebe have something to do with "Buy this shithouse and you can have access to my other better clients" from the agent?  Or did they simply drop a right clanger?

  10. How were Led Zeppelin a Birmingham band?  They were formed in London and none of them were from Birmingham?

Manchester beats Liverpool because of the depth of the roster.  Take out The Beatles and who does Liverpool have as trailblazers?  Not exactly a smorgasbord of Hucknalls is it?  I think I'm going to write a wine bar song called Smorgasbord Of Hucknall.

I don't really have a problem with it and have never understood why you get so worked up about it.

This was more a joke about the poster above me making a double post. But yeah I don't like it, I don't mind the odd one but constant ones clutter up threads, especially when it's a post not adding anything other than an "I agree"

Still, not as bad as "I'll post my thoughts later".  Ooh whoopee! A teaser trailer for an upcoming post about your opinion that you seem to think we hang on every word of.

Anyway, Not sure if this really is unpopular or not, Manchester has the best musical history of any UK town.

Christopher Nolan hasn't made a decent film since Momento. He has been average to shit since then

I think The Prestige is above average.

People who double post should get smallpox on their cocks.

Well you are one of them

You may have noticed "Paid members" on here?  Well, they were the only ones who had the option to downvote.  You may notice that I'm not a paid member, therefore I have not ever down voted anyone.  So you can stick that theory up your arse.

The SBA thing was about decency to fellow forum members but anyone who agreed with him is an arsehole.

OK, you've named one, name another 4.

I liked how nobody reacted to him saying first time in the thread so he had another go, only more so.

Tell you what, your Lordship, seeing how you mentioned "You lot", can you name 5 of them?
