I don't find it quite so bad now, but back when I was having to torrent a ton of US dramas that never seemed to make it over here - probably 2004 onwards - you often ended up with stuff that was cancelled after like 6 episodes with no resolution whatsoever. For a few years there it was really frustrating because you didn't know if you'd even get a whole season, let alone a whole story. Some of them made full seasons but got pulled off the air. Not to say that networks/streamers aren't bad now but they were pretty damn ruthless back then. I guess at least it's one benefit of streamers dumping full seasons onto their platforms at one time. At least you get to see what they've made.

To show how times have changed, I remember there was an uproar when Jericho was removed from TV and fans clamouring to have Jericho back on their screens. From what I gather it’s more the opposite these days.

It is very irritating when you invest your time in to something and then they don't give you a resolution. I want stories tied up. I hope open ended endings. I don't want to use my brain to interpret an ending, I want you to tell me, it's your story, not mine.

I don’t mind that as much as something just getting cancelled without any resolution whatsoever. Some shows do a sort of half and half season ending so if it does get canned, there is at least some resolution albeit a rather milquetoast one. But I’m sure that, much like Chest, I’ve spent too many hours wondering how 2 Broke Girls would’ve and/or should’ve ended.

I am absolutely buzzing for this. THAT is how you do a game announcement. Presented by cast members, hearing from key members of the production team and the director, announced to be out by the end of the year and not years down the line like some bigger studios...and all filmed inside Kuttenberg Cathedral!

I rave about my love for Kingdom Come at any given opportunity but if you haven't played the first one yet, the Royal edition (with all DLC) is currently the princely sum of £3.79 on the PS store. That is astronomically good value for such a wonderful game with hundreds of hours of content.

I remember you championing this game and the historical accuracy of it. Hope this one is as enjoyable for you!

I don't disagree with any of this. My point was more that they need to be cheap because their appeal lies in there being a lot of episodes.

I usually have to choose our “Show before bed” viewing and it fills me with dread. If something has loads of episodes and didn’t get canned without a proper ending, I go for that so I can go over 100 days before having to choose again!

but there truly is some questionable shit going on elsewhere that isn't really being given a lot of scrutiny in my opinion.

That would include Sturgeon's husband, Peter Murrell's £107,000 loan to the SNP which led to multiple compliance issues.

NostroDavid strikes again! Quoted from the opening post in the thread. Hey @David did you grass him up?

Come on now, it's not like I'm chasing glory or anything. They've only won a feeble 5 World Series over the past 30 years.

It’s the Man Utd effect innit. Good mate of mine is from Brooklyn and a huge Yankees fan despite not being into sport. He said it’s like a rite of passage going to a Yankees game with an older family member and, like yourself, got hooked instantly! Sounds an incredible experience.

That's basically only once every 6 years. Could you imagine that?

I’d take once in 20!  Reason I’m a White Sox fan is down to Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball on the Nintendo! Loved the game and a family friend had brought back sports T-shirts for us from his trip to visit his Chicago based family. So the two combined made the Southsiders my team!

I think The Show lead to our Flips getting into baseball and the Mariners. My partner is a Red Sox fan, she got into it via the channel 5 show in the late 90s as it was perfect post pub fodder. I know of a few people who are Red Sox fans because they’re fans of Dropkick Murphys.

  7. Posted this in the baseball thread but ain’t no fucker going to read that! Harold Ramirez of Tampa Bay Rays does a Paul Mullin (not a fuck the tories set of cleats)

The more sportsmen doing this, the better!

  8. Happy White Sox Elimination Day to all who celebrate. Fuck me this is the worst baseball side I’ve ever seen. How’s your team started the season? A fucking damn sight better than mine, I can assure you!!

Heres some wholesome stuff from Harold Ramirez and the Rays.

I assume that's a law and order thing, and not a resurrection of the 90s/00s street parties?

Haha!! If it was they’d have my vote!!

Had a couple of election leaflets from the some of the more "interesting" candidates standing in the Blackpool South by-election.

Both of them taking aim squarely at that insidious wokeness that has supposedly infected society.

Speaking of being infected, both anti-vaxxers as well.

It's a strange old world where people seeking political office are telling the electorate that they will offer more racism, homophobia and general bigotry.

The two biggest arseholes in the Manchester Mayoral Election (Reform and the independent, utter bellsniff Nick Buckley) both have Reclaim The Streets as part of their pledges.

  11. Pretty sure they did the Throbbing Gristle one Merzbow mentioned and possibly the Def Leppard one. This is the trailer for the doc. CW contains Noel Gallagher.

Storm Thorgerson was brilliant and uncompromising

Have you seen the Hipgnosis documentary?

A few of his have been featured in this thread already. The Peter Gabriel covers always stand out for me. So do the ones for Scorpions but for very very different reasons. Definitely the Kleberson and Djemba Djembas of their output.

before Bruce Lee emerged as a self-realised, potent model of an Asian identity

I might be wrong but I think Lee even lost out on Asian roles to white actors because the studios weren’t prepared to have an unknown Asian on screen, they preferred an unknown white guy in case the audience didn’t like it!

  14. Wasn’t there a scene that was in the first episode of new Matt that the credits played over, or was post credits where they’re watching Roseanne (I think) and they started mocking a different actor playing a character. The other two said they hate it when shows do that and they should just write out the character then shoot death stares at Matt? Or have I Mandela’d that?

Anyway, was watching Mr Mercedes, had three or four episodes left and Disney took it off so they left me hanging. Worse than their historical racism and antisemitism. So moved on to Monk. It’s marvellous.

Every now and then they scan that 8pack of Pepsi 2L(Max) as one bottle and it feels great although my Father Dougal facial expressions when it happens has given it away a couple of times.

Yeah that’s ace when they do that! I have on occasion not mention the Pepsi in the trolley and assume they’ve noticed it. Got away with that a few times. If challenged I can always say that I must have forgotten to mention it, your mind isn’t so attentive when you get to my age.

  16. Went to Food Warehouse and thought the shopping was a bit cheaper than usual. Wondered if they forgot to ring up an item or two so I checked the receipt.

My understanding of 'Holocaust' and 'Holocaust denial' has always been that those terms refer specifically to the systematic genocide of Jews in Nazi Germany

I think the holocaust refers to any and all groups murdered by the Nazis, Shoah is the term specific for the mass murder and slaughter of Jews.
