  1. Omega and Jungle Boy was class. Got to be honest, when I saw the Christian pumping up Jungle Boy bit, the old cynic in me thought "Christian is costing Jungle the match here". Christian is probs turning on Jungle down the line though I'm guessing.

That Duante sunset flip with the sunset in the background 😍

Konnan and Tully segment was great. The Konnan line about Tully needing to learn Spanish to communicate with his grandkids was great. Konnan is a madman to be taking a spike piledriver in his condition. Really excited for FTR vs Ortiz and Santana.

  2. With The Diamond Mine they are certainly catching up on AEW with the amount of factions they have.

The more Malcolm Bivens I get on my telly the better.

That battery is charging slower than the battery on my beard trimmer.

Started watching the post draft Raw from 2002 as a backdrop to work. It's so jarring just how deserted and all over the place the show got.

As crap as the Invasion angle was, there was still a sense that they were hot throughout and that it was just a temporary interruption to programing. Okay the creative went even more south after Survivor Series, but you had the early intrigue of the nWo, Triple H's return and a WrestleMania that looked seriously big time on paper just from the draw of that one match. Those first Raws after the draft though. The good times are most definitely finished.

Enough's been said about how well Smackdown done that year to develop its own identity. The red brand stinks though. It's rancid. The nWo immediately become a mid card outlet for writer's block, Austin's mentally left the company, 'Taker's in his tobacco chewing USA bully phase, Triple H is awful as a white meat face once the initial return excitement has died down and - well - there's Bradshaw.

It probably goes to show how forgettable this era was that people seem to think JBL was his first big abrupt singles push. Bradshaw is all over these shows. They're running with him as a sort of backup Austin. Bubba Dudley is right behind him as hardcore champ, and then your midcard is rounded out by regular appearances from Spike Dudley, Raven, Jacqueline and the occasional bright spot who look like they'd be better off on Smackdown anyway.

I do recall liking Raw when I got back into it in 2003. For all the moaning people do about the reign of terror, tightening it up and centering it around Evolution at least gave it purpose. It's lost, here. This goes on for months. It was morbid fun reminding myself just what they tried. The attempts at titillation are at an all time mysogynistic high as well. Far worse than the Attitude Era.

Still better than today's Raw, mind.

Mid 2002 RAW had this moment though

As others have said, is it any different to Retribution, Commander Azeez etc.?   Or going back further, the commentators didn't say "hey that's Nick Dinsmore from OVW" when Eugene debuted.

She's not Piper Niven on Raw, she's a new character (YouTube, Facebook comments  when they officially announce her new name is going to be fun to read).

I'd rather call her Piper Niven and tell the story that Eva reached out to Piper after watching NXT UK and is using her to point out that she is a role model when in reality she can't stand her. But if they rename her, it's not exactly the world's biggest issue.

My problem is that its obvious that she is going to be the butt of jokes because she doesn't conform to what the people in WWE think women should look like.

It’s been announced that the HIAC match between Roman & Rey has been moved to SmackDown tonight instead of the PPV.

Don't know what's more indecisive. WWE's booking or the search for the next Spurs manager.

  6. Nice to see some 2010 TNA legends turn up.

In Impact canon, Scott D'more is an idiot. He books the Good Brothers to be in Nashville when Kenny is in Jacksonville yet positions the match as the opener. Why not put the match second to last to prevent the Good Brothers from taking a flight via private jet to Florida.

The finish in the X Division no. 1 contender match was something in WWE booking room 101. They mention Tony Khan not liking DQ's on Impact and they have a no contest in a 5 man. If I was an Impact I'd think AEW don't have DQ's, great ill watch that instead.

As much as I like Deonna, Jordynne Grace should the female Goldberg. Have her beat everyone in sight in 5 mins and never lose. The unconfident losing streak deal with her is eye roll inducing for me. It'd actually work with Rachel Ellering with her being ring rusty after a bad injury.

Pretty much this, sadly. The good stuff that comes out of it are more like discovering how amazing Linda Pillman is and Kim Wood getting an audience. But in terms of impact, it just boils down to what usually happens in wrestling. Those that care, already know. And those that dont know, dont really care.

The last sentence of this is so true and it correlates to current times.

It's staggering how little reaction there has been to Jamie Horowitz being hired by WWE despite him being fired in the last couple of years because of sexual misconduct.

  8. I think Dave doesn't trust anyone else beside himself to write in the newsletter at this time. Some of the people who have previously contributed have turned out to be complete fruitloops. Ben Miller comes to mind

  9. Listening to Between The Sheets the other week, the guys were talking about how WWF banning cannabis lead to wrestling's soma problem in the years after. I'm trying to remember but have the NFL now taken cannabis of the banned list after the players petitioned the league about it easing pain?

Jake is a bullshiter. Jake and Warrior toured Germany together in 1993 and were in the WWF together in 1996 so that Hall of Fame wasn't even the first time they saw each other after Warrior "screwed" Jake by getting himself fired and not losing the belt to Jake after Summerslam 91 even though Warrior had already lost the belt 8 months earlier to Slaughter at the Rumble

Racking my brain over this and  while 1991 booking had some great moments, it's also really weird. Jake and Undertaker were feuding with Warrior but Warrior gets put into the Match Made in Hell even though he and Slaughter never had beef after the Rumble. Jake gets put with Savage while Taker gets put with Hogan at Survivor Series. It's really interesting where Warrior ends up after SummerSlam.

Also, Jake moaning about his fortune post SummerSlam is funny considering his feud with Savage is probably the catalyst for WCW and AAA to get in touch post WWF

    Wow.

Is there anyway to find out who Flair faced in each of these bookings?

Cagematch would be your friend on that one. They have a very comprehensive database of matches on there

  12. At least the New Japan lads on excursion will enjoy the finest of American dining while in catering at RAW

Imagine the scenes though. Dolph Ziggler winning his first 4 matches at the G1 before going 7-2 in Block A behind Evil.

Bullet Club interference actually resulting in a DQ

Michael Cole and Kevin Kelly finally reunited.

The writers watching the New Japan Rumble and sighing a huge sigh of relief knowing that a company can do Rumbles worse than they do

The women turning up to Wrestle Kingdom only to work the dark match

Vince McMahon finally getting to meet Jushin Liger

The Warrior A&E piece is what you would expect.

Such a genuinely horrible bloke that most people forgave/looked past his faults because he was such an important part of their childhoods.

There was some interesting footage, like behind-the-scenes of him shooting a video apology for a kid he had been horrible to at an airport.

The bit about Warrior's 'political speaking' career is bollocks, too. Making out that he realised he had fucked up massively at UCONN and then turned a corner. He was just trying to find another 'brotherhood' after leaving wrestling apparently, and found it in conservatism.

Shame he continued spewing vile on his website for years after that infamous speech.

Also the bit at the end about him being a changed family man and how redemption is possible blah blah blah - typical WWE fluff.

Have a feeling that the Dark Side of the Ring doc might not be as forgiving

  14. No Sharpe Brothers, Destroyer, Terry and Dory Funk, Fritz Von Erich, Dynamite, Steve Williams, Lou Thesz, Terry Gordy, Monster Ripper, Road Warriors, Billy Robinson. Smh

Johnny Ace made more impact as a gaijin than Michael Elgin

Yeah by all accounts he was somebody almost everyone wanted signed to WWE when he was Drake Younger because he was such a nice guy and now he seems to have gone total nutbar and pissed off even long time friends with his crazy bullshit.

Too many drugs/shots to the head?

Listening to a podcast David Bixenspan appeared on about wrestling and Qanon, he mentioned Drake's head got turned by people at the church where he "found god".

Dynamite (as well as confirmed second show Rampage starting in mid August on Friday nights) will be moving to TBS next year. Anyone here know anything about US TV and whether this is good or bad? I'm guessing the move is due to TNT buying loads of NHL games that will air Wednesday nights.

According to an article I just read TBS was the 14th most watched channel in the US while TNT was 18th. USA Network was 20th

Just seen these on Twitter taken 23 years apart: Yuji Nagata with Sonny Onoo!
