TIL the McFly song ā€œ5 Colours In Her Hairā€ was inspired by Suze from the hate crime tv show ā€œAs Ifā€.Ā

That show was essential viewing at our house when I was in Uni. Sunday morning was As If, then the Hollyoaks omnibus. Usually because we were hung over from Friday night.Ā

I learned that Liberace's first names were Władziu Valentino.Ā

  2. I picked up Forklift And Extreme on Switch as it's Ā£3.50 on sale. It's a fun enough distraction at that price. I know there's a free mobile version, but I'd rather play it using a controller. The physics are fine, but it's an odd choice to play from an isometric angle. There are camera controls to rotate your view, and there is a first person view, but it doesn't let you look behind you when you're driving backwards. The levels are almost like Tony Hawk levels with multiple goals. Move the boxes to their destination, do it within a certain time, find the F-O-R-K letters, and do that within a certain time, find the secret safety poster, avoid hitting any obstacles. There's a loot box system, and you get paid for each level you do, which lets you buy other characters, liveries for your forklift, and new models for the forklift as well. For Ā£3.50 it's decent enough, but I wouldn't pay the Ā£15 it was asking for without the discount on the eShop.Ā

  3. I like how David Tennant's Fourteenth Doctor is different from Tennant's Tenth Doctor.Ā  The double turn was done well, and the very brief preview of next week looked good. The new stuff the Sonic Screwdriver can do is interesting too.Ā

I watched the colourised Daleks on Friday night as well, and the actual courisation was really nice, but the weird editing was bad. I also found it a little annoying that every time they mentioned something that had happened earlier they felt the need to show a flashback to it happening, and some of the music they added in was unnecessary. I think I'd still rather watch all seven parts of the original Dalek story.Ā

Apparently the talent in the ring had no clue he was coming out šŸ˜‚

This is brilliant, the tears in here will be fantastic too.

After a thumping Rovers away win yesterday and now this, I am very much convinced that there is a god after all šŸ˜

Don't forget Burnley getting beat as well.Ā

I remember I quite liked Staind at the time. I also liked self harm and and special brew, so, ya'know.

I remember singing It's Been A While for one of my vocal assessments in Uni. I think I also did Clementine by Mark Owen in the same one.

  6. If anybody is in a Manchester area on the 15th or 16th of December I'm contemplating heading to the Trafford Centre Odeon for a lunchtime/afternoon showing. There's a 12.30 or a 3.30 showing, maybe the 6.30 as well, but I'd probably be doing that by train rather than by bus. It means I can visit my friend in Stretford as well.Ā

  7. I get why they wouldn't want to change his name to Nick Cage since somebody already has that name, and Wayne Cage sounds like he works in sales or something. Plus there are so many Cages & Pages there already. Nick Christian? Nick Reso could be a little insidery, maybe?Ā

  8. I've seen it's on at Vue that weekend, but I think I'll have to go to Bolton or Preston to see it. I'm probably going to see it at Preston on the Saturday afternoon because they have lovely recliner seats there.Ā

I really like infrastructure stuff - I love finding out little bits and pieces about how things were planned out and the history of what was there before. This goes double for TFL stuff. I'm a bit of a Tube obsessive as a result. For my last birthday, my partner took me to a tour of the derelict Aldwych tube station, which was pretty amazing. We've also been to the museum depot in Acton, which had the following gem:

See the bus in the middle? That's a 29 Bus from a century ago, going from Charing Cross to Alderman's Hill through Wood Green, Finsbury Park and Camden. And, while it terminates at Wood Green now, that's still the 29 bus route. I use it. Blew my mind.

I'm also really into the design side of things, and one of my favourite books is this Kickstarter reissue of the original British Rail corporate identity manual style guide. It's an absolute brick of a thing and genuinely beautiful.

With infrastructure and design stuff, it's all about the work, creativity and talent that's gone into stuff that we take for granted. And when you think about someone actually making it, it's brilliant.

London Transport Museum is a great day out. The railway museum at York was great as well.Ā

Re cryptic crosswords. My mum buys the S+n every day, and whenever she's doing the crossword I'll try and solve them from just the cryptic clues. I also have a try at the cryptic crossword in our local paper. I've got a couple of apps about how to solve cryptic crosswords as well, and will sometimes have a bash at the one in i. Dave Gorman did a great bit about cryptic crosswords when I went to see him last year.Ā

Edit: @Keith Houchen I have a Google document with a list of all the physical and digital fighting games I own. I actually need to update it as I've acquired a few more recently. I'm awful at them, but really enjoy them.Ā

I still havenā€™t played 5, but sometimes on 3 and 4 Iā€™d just tune into a station I liked and just drive around listening to the radio and obeying the rules. Very relaxing and the closest to actually driving a car for me.

I did this in San Andreas, and also quite a bit in the ForzĆ” Horizon games.Ā

I watch a lot of "dull" content on YouTube (freight hopping, scenic routes on trains, a man that reviews random "blank" VHS tapes he buys in thrift stores) but I find them quite exciting so not sure it counts.

Recently I've started looking up routes or places whilst watching films or TV, mostly in America, and mostly the train routes.

I think it started when I watched The Office and I wanted to see how far it was from Scranton to New York/Philadelphia and Utica, as they make it sound like its just down the road.

I like to look up the route, the things to do there, the restaurants, cafes, shops, have a look around on Maps, look up the price of things and generally have a nosey around.

Did it last night with that awful Christmas film I watched. It was set in a "Central Falls" so I had a look around the Rhode Island one and Pawtucket, which is quite near as well. Looks nice and has a reasonably priced Colombian restaurant.

    I'll never go.

I think I've watched some by that chap who watched the blank videos. Some have just got random things written in the labels. There's one who's going through one of those 3000 shareware/freeware Softkey compilations on CD ROM from the 90s as well which is interesting.Ā

  12. We're back with 1958'sĀ Great Monster VaranĀ akaĀ Varan The Unbelievable.Ā It's back to black and white as well, presumably because the effects aren't up to the standard of the last few offerings. It feels a bit King Kong in places with Varan (apparently an example of a prehistoric creature called a Varanopode) living in a secret forest in "the Tibet of Japan" where he's worshipped as a god. Anyway, some kid and his dog from the nearby village wind him up and he destroys the village, which leads to The army being sent in, then Varan flies off to Tokyo.Ā

The Varan monster is a decent concept, but the execution is lacking. It looks laughably poor in places, especially when he's "flying" the Army in their obviously model tanks with little action figures sat in the turret are pretty hilarious too, but it's all played seriously. I dread to think how poor it would have been in colour.Ā

The score is decent, although a lot of the motifs running through it just should like they're variations on the classic Godzilla March. I think Ikufube did the score, which makes sense as he did a lot of Godzilla scores back in the day.Ā

It's not a bad movie, and Varan has a fair bit of potential as a kind of stepping stone between a land based kaiju such as Godzilla, and an aeriel kaiju such as Mothra or Rodan. Varan will return in Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters.Ā

Next up it's 1959'sĀ Great Space War/Battle In Outer Space.Ā
