  1. Yeah that's the worst. I had the mother of an ex-girlfriend walk in one day while I was watching Caligula, right at the really messed up part near the beginning in the pleasure palace where there's people fucking themselves with barbed wire and plenty o' anal rape going on.....worst thing about it was that I was watching it for uni research on a game I was designing (a game not entitled 'Plenty O' Anal Rape' I might add), so I was sitting there taking notes. She didn't say I word, I didn't say a word. It stayed that way.

  2. Submarine - British comedy drama from Richard Ayoade (of The IT Crowd). 15-year-old Oliver Tate has two objectives: To lose his virginity before his next birthday, and to extinguish the flame between his mother and an ex-lover who has resurfaced in her life. We really enjoyed this, it's 'indie' as anything & as such may irritate as much as charm depending on your viewpoint. Well acted all round with Paddy Considine adding another tremendous character to his CV as a mullet topped psychic.

Not to mention the fantastic acoustic soundtrack by Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys

  3. Hopefully there's at least one comedy that cracked the top ten, you miserable bastards.

The only one of my top 5 that hasn't appeared yet is Airplane, I reckon that would have made it in somewhere at least, and as it hasn't come in yet I'm hoping it's made the 10. I can't think of many comedies that would be on enough people's lists as I think it's a genre that splits taste more than any other. I had Spinal Tap in my 10, that's a possibility, I think the Pythons might be ones that struggle from people splitting votes between them, Dr Strangelove as an outside chance?.....Groundhog day and maybe Anchorman could maybe sneak in too.

  4. Yep. 52 days. Counting them down.

Season 2 / A Clash of Kings Spoiler SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read

I can't even begin to imagine how cool the Battle of the Blackwater is going to be on screen.

I wouldn't be suprised if the majority of it took place offscreen, I doubt HBO have the budget to give the battle it's true justice sadly.

I'm up to book 5 (technically 4 I think) and can't wait to see how scenes from the book play out in my head. There's one scene from book 3, part 2

the Red Wedding, which will be the most shocking thing in TV probably when they do it

Spoilers from book 3, part 2

SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read

You will be happy to know you're wrong about the Battle of the Blackwater :), it's going to appear in its full glory, massive fucking chain and all in episode 9. It's a full 16 minutes of battle apparently, with the screenplay written and filming overseen by Martin. Cannot fucking wait.

Ah it looks like you're around the same bit as me then, I've just finished book 3 part 2 and the red wedding is indeed going to be amazing. Especially with all the other complete craziness that goes down just before and after it. I assume this will be season 4, Storm of Swords is to big to fit into 10 episodes I think, so a couple of years to wait yet but man that's going to be good.

  5. Haha, I thought someone might mention that.....there are a couple of spoilers from the end of season 1 and one very minor one from the end of season 2. I'll go back and edit my posts accordingly so you can tell which is which. I'll try and do the same from now on as hopefully with enough fans on here now there can be some good discussion. I'm sure there's a Thrones thread somewhere isn't there? Might have to resurrect that soon.

  6. It felt like they were going for a big "Wow!" moment, but it just wasn't one for me. You have to admit the CGI was a bit rubbish.

Really? I thought it looked pretty awesome.

    Season 1 Spoiler:

Just felt like they could have ended it an episode earlier when they chopped Ned Stark's head off and that would have been a bigger way to end the season. I'm sure there's a good reason why they didn't - most probably because the start of the second season probably doesn't continue right on from the next day where this one ended. I don't know as I've not read the books

Smell the ratings for episode 10 though after cutting off the head of the lead character and biggest star at the end of episode 9. I thought it worked brilliantly. To be fair though in the book Eddard's death does happen later toward the end of the book though. The only thing really they need to explain after that is Yorren taking Arya to The Wall. But the book does also finish with Daenerys' dragons

  7. Yeah, the number of characters is overwhelming.. it took me about 3-4 episodes to really get into it also, but I ended up loving it even though the ending of the series was a bit flat and rubbish I'm still majorly excited for the next series.

Are you kidding? In the context of the history and what having 3 dragons means, it's a massive, awesome ending

  8. Caught the first 3 episodes of Game of Thrones yesterday, and while it's enjoyable I'm struggling to find why everybody raves about it. There's just so much going on and cutting between bits that it's a chore to keep up.

    Also spoilers -

I read ahead to see if anything really good happened in the rest of the season (I wasn't enjoying it enough to be bothered by spoiling it) and it just turns out that the majority of the interesting characters die. So I doubt I'll bother with the rest anyway.

I would highly recommend you keep watching and don't be put off by the spoilers. Game Of Thrones doesn't really kick into episode 5 and from their every episode is fucking crazy good. It takes a little while for the TV show to settle into the fantasy world it's creating but once it does and you work out who's who it's probably the most exciting and gripping show on TV.

Couldn't agree more. It took me perhaps 4 episodes to really get into it, just the sheer amount of characters makes it difficult at first, but I am completely obsessed with it now, started reading the books after season 1 finished and just about to start book 5, trust me it will get even better. The second half of series 2 especially is going to be unbelievable.

  9. I've been watching the latest series of Room 101. Frank Skinner has done really well to take over from Paul Merton and the change from one guest to three has really worked out. They had Danny Baker on one particular episode and the man is an absolute genius.

Yeah I've really been enjoying this series, when it was on in it's original guise, hosted by Nick Hancock, it was one of my favourite shows, and while Paul Merton is great I couldn't really get into it while he was host. I love Frank Skinner though and so far the guests have been pretty good. I'm hoping they have David Mitchell, Charlie Brooker and Frankie Boyle booked for later in the series, it's the perfect format for them, ranting about things they hate.

  10. This was my number 1 film, thought it might just sneak into the top 10 but hey ho. I was 12 when this came out, so probably 13 or 14 when it came out on video and I saw it for the first time. 'Sloth' and to a slightly lesser extent 'Gluttony' absolutely freaked me out and got inside my head, the fact that you only ever see the aftermath so a lot is left to imagination obviously only heightens that. I've seen it probably 10-15 times since then and as people have rightly said, it's one of the most re watchable movies ever made, I think this is partly down to the superb set design, where there's so much depth and texture to the filth and squalor that you always pick up on something new. It's described in the special features that all of the books in Doe's apartment (my favourite scene) were written and bound by hand, with something on each page, I really hope at some point they make it into Londons movie museum so I can have a look through it.

But in short, an amazing cast all on top form, great chemistry between Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, especially in the dialogue-heavy bar scene, and equally excellent between Pitt and Spacey in the equally dialogue-heavy and equally awesome driving sequence out into the desert ("You're no messiah. You're a movie of the week. You're a fucking t-shirt, at best"). Great small roles for R. Lee Ermey as the police captain, and the brilliant Michael Massee as the owner of the brothel in the 'Lust' murder ("some guys...have SUITCASES full of stuff").

    Yeah, fucking love it.

  11. Is Bradley Pitt generally considered to be a great actor, then? I've never really paid much attention to his films, sort of just assumed he was a pretty face. What do people recommend as an introduction to his work? (Bearing in mind I'm not particularly into action films/sci-fi/westerns/war films...know it's pretty dumb to write off so many genres but there you go, I have exceptions to the rule...ideally I like something with strong characters and dialogue and I can cope with a featureless plot).

He appears in 3 out of my top 10 films (Se7en, Fight Club and Snatch), one that just missed out of my top 10 with Sleepers, and that's not including the roles he received most credit for his acting, namely the above, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Moneyball which I am yet to see but looks ace. He's great in Inglourious Basterds, the Oceans films, Twelve Monkeys and his part in True Romance, although miniscule, is also great.

So yes, I guess is my answer.

You don't even need to upload to somewhere (which if you don't already have an account with imageshack or something is the longest part of that process). Just send the screengrab onto the UKFF gmail account. is it ilovetheukff@gmail.com ? something like that.
