This is meant to be the final, with rhymes you're meant to slam it
Yours was the worst prose I've read since volume 2 of Frantic Planet
Brilliant That's the first line in ages that's made me audibly go "oooooh" as in "ooooh, burn". Poor Sickwoy.

I always assumed Waltons was the sort of program everyone turned over as soon as the music started. I've literally never seen more than the first 4 seconds. Ever.
No no, you don't turn over until the music stops. That's a brilliant theme tune
-
I think the last few episodes of season 1 are where it really steps up a notch and then season 2 is just amazing from episode 1 untill the very end of the show.
Yeah I'd agree with that. A lot of its strengths are in the running jokes. Stick with it definitely.

Went to see her at an acoustic night yesterday. Completely fell in love with her.

Yeah I plan to get on starting that Westerns thread today if nobody objects. Will start with a brief overview and a few recommendations. Let's hope it's not just me in there!
Â
I'll contribute, I love a bit of a Western, me.
Â
On a similar tip, I'm going to have a good think and compile a 25 Best Scenes In Cinema history. I can't be arsed doing a proper poll, but if film-lovers want to PM me their favourite few scenes, I will consider them My memory is shot, so if you don't remind me of a great scene, I may forget about it.
Love this idea, if you did decide to open it up as a poll in the future I'd be all over that.

5. Return of the Jedi
Jedi is your favourite Star Wars film? Good man, mine too, always presumed your fav was Empire like everyone else. Fuck Hoth, Endor is where it's at.
Yeah it always has been, although the last hour of Revenge of the Sith pushes it very close now. The fall of the Republic and the rise of Palpatine was always the most interesting era of the saga for me so seeing that in RotS was awesome, and it has the best fights. But Palpatine being most prominent in Jedi in the original trilogy was probably the reason it was my favourite. Also I always loved the scenes at Jabbas Palace and the Sarlaac pit.

So that's at least 3 of us so far that voted for Tap. Must have been very close to making it in.
-
Here's mine
Â
1. Se7en
2. American Beauty
3. Back To The Future 2
4. Pulp Fiction
5. Return of the Jedi
6. Airplane
7. Snatch
8. Fight Club
9. Die Hard
10. This is Spinal Tap
Â
Happy to have 6 of my 10 make the list, I expected Empire Strikes Back to appear over Return of the Jedi and did consider tactically voting for that instead but decided against it. Very surprised Spinal Tap didn't make it in, same goes for many of the top comedies we discussed a few days back.
-
Already started getting a few of these through on my LoveFilm sine they were announced, watched Fargo for the first time last night (and bloody loved it), I've got Kalifornia coming today hopefully, which didn't make the list but came up highly recommended a few times in discussion over other Brad Pitt movies.
Â
Great work Gladders, definitely one for OT Gold I think. I actually wasn't that keen on The Big Lebowski but I've only seen it once and own it on DVD so I'll give it another go this week and see.

Ah, the first album I ever owned. Go on then.....

Out of interest, were there any former pcc members who didn't vote for Suburban Commando as their favourite film?
-
It seems the more I read over the last 2 pages, the less convinced I am that the real number 1 is actually coming today....the real number 1 IS coming today right? Incidentally, I was reminded of this awesome review in the Washington Post:
Â
‘Suburban Commando’ (PG)By Richard Harrington
Washington Post Staff Writer
October 11, 1991
Â
"Suburban Commando" feels like it was written by 14-year-olds for an audience of 12-year-olds, but it's likely to be enjoyed only by an audience of 10-year-olds (and barely at that). A lumbering Hulk Hogan vehicle, it is a cartoon acted out by unanimated characters, including several veteran actors who should seriously think about changing agents (are you listening, Christopher Lloyd and Shelley Duvall?). As for Hogan, he wrestles with his lines and they win time and again. If only his delivery were as well oiled as his body. Maybe Hogan's Saturday morning cartoon alter ego should have been brought in as a stunt double for scenes involving dialogue.
Â
Hogan plays a space cowboy being hunted by a pair of bounty hunters sent by a madman who would be ruler of the universe. The Hulkster has crash-landed in a lily-white suburb, and while waiting for his ship to recharge he takes a spare room with a quirky family (Lloyd and Duvall). Along the way he deals with those pesky hunters, skateboarding kids and next-door neighbors who resemble professional wrestlers but who, in one of the film's few successful jokes, threaten to end a dispute with the Hulkster not with their fists ("Are you nuts?") but with their lawyers ("This is the '90s, we're gonna sue").
Â
Too bad that option's not open to moviegoers.
Â
The film reeks of cheapness: It looks as if it was shot on leftover film stock, and the soundtrack seems to have been assembled from scraps of a dozen other films. The effects are K mart and the acting is on par with the script. On the other hand, there is a countdown clock toward the end, so you won't have any difficulty gauging how much time is left on this bomb.
Â
Even then, it goes poof.

Whilst we're talking Ferrell - I really enjoyed Blades of Glory, but don't hear that mentioned too often, if ever. What did you guys make of it?
Love Blades of Glory. Re-watched it about a week ago actually, it was the first time I'd seen it since becoming a massive fan of both Amy Poehler and Will Arnett through Parks and Recreation and Arrested Development / 30 Rock so I probably enjoyed it even more on second watch.
-
Another couple of comedies that I don't think have been mentioned yet, both massively quotable and seem to always get highly praised on here (both also just missed out on my top 10)
Â
Â
-
I would be so, so pleased if it was. I deliberated for ages about whether to put Airplane or Naked Gun in and went with Airplane, but I love them both dearly.
-
Didn't you tell me at some point that there is a comedy in the top ten? There hasn't been so far..
If this is true, and Gladders' post about people guessing who voted for it, then I'm excitedly hoping for Airplane or Spinal Tap. Come on.
-
I didn't vote, but it's going to be Reservoir Dogs judging all the rest of QT's favoured works have already charted and it's very rare to see that or Pulp Fiction in the same chart with the other absent.
I was going to suggest that, but I thought I remembered Gladders saying pulp Fiction was the only QT film in the countdown
-
I'd love for #1 to be Scarface, it's my favourite film of all time, but I don't see it happening.
Did you vote? Because a number 1 placing even from just one person seemed to put a film pretty close to making the top 50, and I can't imagine nobody else voted for it.
-
Something you might remember as you've been writing them Gladders (Read: I cant be fucked to go through all 49): What is the film on our favourites list that is considered the worst in terms of IMDB rating?
-
When we got to the top 3 I assumed Fight Club and Shawshank were still coming, and that one of them would top the list.....but I have absolutely no idea what the other one's going to be. A lot of people seem to think Rocky but I definitely think that one would split the votes too much between the original, 3 and 4. I'm hoping for a comedy but like I said before I think comedy is too subjective to get enough people voting for the same one. I think all of my top 5 have appeared now though so I'm pretty happy with that. My predictions for number 1 are either Scarface, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Anchorman or Monty Python's Life of Brian.
-
I'm very said there has been no empire strikes back
then rejoice, because there has.
-
Absolutely, I know some people weren't keen on having so many countdown type threads on the forum, but I think if they're done well (we've had some really great ones recently with this, Sev's music, and Ian's in on-topic) and the OP puts the effort in with descriptions and is committed enough to update every day, then they create great debate. Look forward to seeing some of the other thread ideas that were being thrown about for when this ended being set up.
-
Someone on here ruined the twist in Fight Club for me many a year ago
You're never going to let me forget that are you
-
I watched all the series not too long ago, is it bad that I didn't notice this whatsoever?
My friends didn't notice it either. It's weird, because I'm normally someone that completely misses things like that, but saw it straight away. Watch it again Mike and you'll kick yourself.
It was the dialogue that caught me first before I noticed the terribly spliced video footage. It's actually incredibly creepy. "I don't like that kind of talk!"
What have you been watching on (proper scripted) telly?

And another season (which is exclusive to Netflix)
