  1. I think people are just struggling to see what your point are now Whiskey.....you seem to be saying "let's not tar all poor people as scum" to which the forum, pretty unanimously has said. "we're not". There may be some people on your Facebook that are doing that, so probably best to go and educate them rather than get into pointless circular arguments on here.

  2. There's only you that is confusing the use of the word, as far as I can see. This idea that people are going to start looking at unemployed middle-aged men in the job centre as scum in the wake of this is mental.

You say you don't like the use of the word at all - what should we call the feral thugs rampaging through the city centres, then? I'm sorry, but this is too emotive an issue for a lot of people who've seen their communities destroyed to maintain detached liberal objectivity when talking about these vermin. I've called them scum, chavs, shit and just plain cunts over the past few days. As far as I'm concerned all of those descriptions fit them perfectly, and I don't think there's anyone else who'd imagine I was talking about some poor bloke who's been been made redundant when I'm using them.

    Spot on Magnum.

  3. Eh... the thought that these riots are connected to outcry over Mark Duggan at this point is laughable... I'm sure 90% of the rioters think they shot Jim Duggan.

That would explain why they looted that truck full of planks of wood to use as weapons. A fine tribute.

  4. Yeh my workmate came across one for planned riots in Cardiff tonight and reported it to the police and Facebook, the group went down about 10 minutes later. I'm sure he wasn't the only one to have reported it but nice to see they are onto it quickly and realise the importance of social networking for coordinating these attacks.

  5. I'm sure plenty of people heard them, and that's the reason why news outlets like Sky love interviewing people like this. You would think the reporters actively seek out people to speak to who can give the worst possible impression...

Yeah, it's Sky's fault. They should have picked out some of the more eloquent rioters and thieves to talk to, to give a better impression.

  6. The thing that gets me is that, if all of you are right and it is so easy for these kids to get jobs, to have prospects, life-chances etc, then why the fuck would they start burning down their own communities? Then we just come back to there being no earthly reason whatsover.

As the great Morgan Freeman said in Se7en.

"It's easier to steal what you want than it is to earn it. "

  7. I have every idea thankyou.

You don't seem to realise just how big London is. When i lived there if i had restricted myself to looking at Haringay and neighboring places i would have found it 10x more difficult to find work.

I also know from spells of unemployment myself that most of it was due to being young and lazy. Another thing i have first hand see is that many of the gangs have no intention of working unless it involves them being either a musician or a multi millionaire immediately.

I think this sums it up perfectly to be honest. The jobs are there, if not in one borough then in another. But it's the same as anywhere else, it's easier to sit and moan about there being no jobs than it is to go out and work to get one. If there's 20 people applying for each job, fuck it, go out and apply for 40 or 50. I remember applying for probably close to 50 jobs and going through perhaps 8 or 9 interviews before I found something. Trouble is like S4L says that most kids don't want to start at the bottom working their way up, they want to instantly be footballers, musicians or nothing at all.

  8. It's just struck me that the 3rd Test starts at Edgebaston in Birmingham in a couple of days. If these thieving rioters disrupt the cricket I will get out there myself and riot.

Unfortunately I think there's very little chance of this going ahead. Especially with the precedent being set by the FA to cancel tomorrow night's England friendly and the Carling Cup matches. I hope I'm wrong though.

  9. Getting a bit worried now, my family own an electrical retailer on the Hertford Road in Enfield, they just got a call from the police telling them to close up for the day. Anyone down that way know if there's anything currently happening?

  10. I cant help but imagine myself as the guy in the striped shirt, being randomly attacked by 2 guys, trying to defend myself only to get called an asshole by my hero and made to walk out through a crowd of 25,000 jeering peers.

Hopefully the guy was an asshole and did start it, but no way Grohl could have known.

  11. That really is one of the worst looking films I have ever seen. It looks like one of the films Tracy Jordan would be in on 30 Rock. Except not only is this real, but it has Al fucking Pacino in it :(. For this alone they should take away one of his Golden Globes. Make one more and his Best Actor Oscar gets melted down in front of him.

  12. Any Minecraft players? Didn't know if there was enough on here to warrant it's own thread where we could talk about adventures and sharing servers.

I've so far resisted the temptation, but when it comes out on the 360 in a few months I'm going to have nowhere to hide. How are you finding it?

I love it. You have to watch your time on it though, I've lost days playing it. My evenings consist of putting Dyll to bed at 7, sitting down with a ton of crap food infront of Minecraft and before I know it it's 2am :(

I urge you to get it now anyway, for a short time it's only

    I miss Frasier

So glad you linked this because it's the kind of one I may have missed otherwise, but this looks brilliant.

Also, been reading up on Django Unchained: Tarantino's 8th movie, about slavery in the deep south. According to reports Samuel L Jackson, Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz cast so far with DiCaprio likely to take the lead role. Can't wait.

  15.

Ahhh, I watched this on Man Vs Beast while channel hopping a couple of months back, absolutely hilarious. Just the intercutting between the guys putting 100% effort in and the camel really not giving a fuck was cracking me up.
