  1. Whilst having a look what films Kevin Smith has made over the last few years I stumbled across Tusk. After watching a few clips I'm almost tempted to give it a go. Is it as terrible as it appears or is there a tongue in cheek charm to it?

I remember him spouting about Jersey Girl being his Annie Hall coming of age film but to be fair he's probably never topped his first film. Red State was quite interesting but was ultimately disappointing and whilst I'll unapologetically sit through Jersey Girl whenever it's on it certainly wasn't his Annie Hall. Outside of the nostalgia of being a teenager and loving everything he did he's pretty shit really isn't he?

Avoid Tusk. It's so bad and I'm a huge Kevin Smith fan...

  2. Ok, so gave Godfather 3 another go (maybe 3rd time?) every time, about 30 minutes in I think "this isn't as bad as I remembered"...well it is. It's fucking shit. Garcia is awful, Coppola is awful, the script is shit. The story is boring, even Keaton and Pacino just seem so bored.

Joe Mantegna is the only good thing in it.

I've read Easy Riders and Raging Bulls, but this doesn't get mentioned so if anyone can recommend a good book/article on this I'd appreciate it because I want to know the in depth story of how this piece of shit got made.

I know Coppola was forced to make it due to a previous flop, but I want to know more about the script being written in 6 weeks, Duvall etc

I can't believe as well that this got nominated for Best Picture back when it was just 5 films, and that Roger Ebert gave it a higher rating than 2.

What a shit film. I have a weird thing where I HAVE to watch trilogies in order (ie I'll never just watch Return of the Jedi for instance if it's on), but I'm never watching that again.

  3. Teachers is brilliant, I need to go through them all again. Well, series 1 & 2 anyway- I think it went to pot from series 3 onwards. And yes, Maggie was lovely- top unconventional hottie right there. Kurt and Brian are one of my favourite double acts in tv as well.

The casting of Brian is inspired. There's a bit when Susan has the breakdown in Series 1 and he's back in the classroom subbing and he tells the kids that lots of people come back from breakdowns and a kid asks "Yeah, like who?" and he looks blank for about 10 seconds and says "Stan Collymore"

    Excellent stuff.

  4. My school had a smoking (lower school) and non smoking (upper school) staff room. The smoking staff let us use theirs during free lessons in the sixth form.

Blimey. We had to stand at least 50 metres from the school otherwise you'd get then confiscated. To be fair I get it. Kids in uniform smoking outside school gates isn't great.

I've been surprised by the amount of smoking they do in Teachers in the school. It's from 2001, they're smoking in the staff room, the toilets, Bobs office, Susan's office...everywhere!

  5. I've been rewatching Teachers. Fantastic as I remember. Some thoughts.

Andrew Lincoln is a great actor. And very handsome.

The music is so of its time, but a top soundtrack (SHE LEFT ME ON A FRIIIIDAAAAY)

    James Corden. Lol.

They smoked a lot in the school. This got me thinking. Did teachers used to smoke in the staff room? I started smoking at 15, and we just to stand outside the gates, but on recollection I can't remember seeing any of my teachers smoking anywhere.

Kara Tointon as a school girl made me a bit uneasy, but it's fine as I would've been 16 when this came out. (The Leon effect)

    Susan was very fanciable.

Finally, why the FUCK did Simon let Maggie go??? Maggie??? She was lovely. (Just looked her up, and she's still fit. In Sherlock I see)

I hated Jenny then and I hate her now.

  6. I can't be arsed to go through his entire feed, it's just an opinion I've had based on the last couple of months of seeing him/his opinion/thoughts or whatever. I think he comes across as arrogant, defensive and shits on other people's opinion as they don't know as much as him.

It's not based on one tweet or conversation, it's just a random thought...hence why...

  7. I have no problem with him shilling the Observer, prompting it or whatever, obviously as you point out, he's running a business. I wouldn't put that much work into something for nothing either.

It's his high and mighty attitude that I can't stand. He thinks his opinion is more important and worthy than anyone else's.

  8. On the plus side, the Lego Batman film looks excellent.

Not to get all "Oooh I've seen it and you haven't" cos that's shit, but it is. It's so funny. Watching it with my 3 year old Batman obsessed daughter helped, but yeah, it's great.

Bit gutting about Affleck. I think he's a great director and actor (echoed, easily best thing in BvS), guess he just wants to concentrate on the performance?

  9. Isn't Dave Meltzer an insufferable cunt? Honestly, the pious shite he spills on Twitter is too fucking much. I can't begin to imagine what he's like on his shows or pods or whatever.

"Oh, I know the Mania card...and you don't" fuck off you weirdo

  10. That was one of the worst things I've ever heard in my life. Please for the love of God, do the right thing and tell them to give up. Atrocious. Not only is the singing terrible, you're right. The instruments are so low in the music. Thanks for sharing though. Needed a lift.

  11. Not sure mate, was it either of the Le Flow compilations? Have a look at their track listings. I know how frustrating this can be. I spent YEARS searching for a J Live remix that didn't actually exist.

I heard a track on Westwood when Prime Cuts of the Scratch Perverts was on it to discover he layed an acapella over an instrumental, so my "remix" never actually existed!!!

  12.

Is anyone else struggling to keep up with all the news/social media/what's happening? It's like information overload...

That's almost certainly part of the strategy.

Maybe it's because there are so many outlets/commentators etc but it's absolutely crazy.

  13. Anyone remember the all you can eat Mr Wu's chain??? Worst hygiene in a restaurant ever.

This reminds me of the old Chinese place I used to order from. I once went in and asked for Lemon Chicken among the order only to be told I couldn't have it as they had run out of Robinsons...they were making it with Lemon Cordial!!! Please tell me this isn't normal

  14. Nice one Chest, much appreciated. I think I actually have that Le Flow album somewhere and heard a few tracks by Joke...yeah he seems pretty good, can't remember which ones, but they had Japanese names.

Also checked out PLN, who apparently had their album go to Number 1 in the iTunes chart. Was OK, but overly aggressive for me tbh.

I definitely want to expand on what I know, as I feel I get lazy and just go to what I know, and I want to see what else is out there as I have a tendency to stick to my 'backpack shit'. Having said that im sitting here listening to NORE cos he was excellent.

  15. Chest, re: your hatred of live hip hop with a full band, does this mean you don't like The Roots live, or have you not seen them?

Anyhoo, let's get away from the pedantry, I'm genuinely sorry I posted the clip

  16. Crate Diggers!!! I've literally just discovered that, and watched a good 2 hours of it. The Mr Thing and Cut Chemist ones are great.

Something I found from watching that was another series called What's In My Bag which is a more diverse range of guests, but still plenty of hip hop artists, shopping in this massive shop in LA I think. Well worth watching as well.

  17. How are you not all massive, fat cunts???

Yeah we might have shit chippies but I once had pie and mash in Hull, and it was shocking whilst we have places like Harringtons and BJs so who's really winning lads?

Bet our greasy spoons are better than yours as well
