  1. Did a bit of ring announcing for NBW and a couple of other small promotions in the lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire area. NBW of course was run by the infamous Gerry Norton, a man who has faked more heart attacks to get out of paying people than Ric Flair has thrown chops.

Anyway did that for a bit, and while I was a decent announcer I didn't really enjoy it. Also about 80% of the time I was bigger than the wrestlers. That's not a good visual when you are trying to make the wrestlers look as good as possible.

I never considered an actual wrestling career. As an old, fat, uncoordinated guy with minimal athleticism I felt Ronin already had that gimmick pretty well nailed, so what was the point.

  2. If you want to see how a kayfabe ranking system can be made to work, just look at any of the rankings of any of the world boxing organisations. They seem to be able to come up with "Eliminator" and "Final Eliminator" matchesthat make very little sense. Look at the WBC heavyweight rankings. Wilder is champ and they don't rate Joshua in the top 15 despite the fact he is champion of all the other organisations. Wins and losses matter but they are not the be all and end all. The rankings can be used as a storytelling device,  they are in boxing.

  3. Cameron only called the referendum to try and quell the internal fighting in the Tory party. He thought he would win the referendum and shut up Boris and co at the same time. Cameron is wholly to blame for having the referendum in the first place. He also said if he lost he would remain as PM. He was gone before the last votes had been counted. This is all his fault.

  4. Jean Claude Juncker has already said this evening that this is the only deal. Of course he has to say that, but the EU has consistently stuck to its position while we have ponced around and done fuck all.

  5. We don't really need the "No book wankers" part of the post title anymore. GRRM will probably die before book 8 comes out. Considering Winds Of Winter won't be out this year it will be at least 8 years between that and Dance Of Dragons, I would imagine that the TV series will have finished 10 years before the last book comes out.

  6. Sat in the dentist just now, quite a few people in the waiting room. One f the dentists came out to get her next patients. She was looking for Mr and Mrs Rumble. Whether they were royal or not I couldn't tell.

  7. All those people who kept throwing money at Scott knew what he was like and knew how he behaved. Who is the fool, them for offering the contract or him for signing it.

Professional sport these days is a business. The two are inextricably linked. I'd love to watch sport played by people who are playing for the love of it, but at the highest level of any sport that simply isn't the case. And never will be again.

  8. For a lot less money. The figure for premier league players who go bankrupt after they retire is massive. In monetary terms he did the right thing.

There are plenty of players at clubs getting paid very good money and not playing. Richard Wright was at Manchester City for 4 years, and during that time signed 2 contract extensions. Never played a first team game. Made the most money he could, fair play to him.

You simply cannot compare a form of entertainment, like wrestling, to a sport, like boxing.  Adam Woodyatt has been playing the same role for most of his life, but has never been in contention for an Oscar, is he a bad professional?  Was Martine McCutcheon being a bad professional when she gave up the role that made her the nations sweetheart for a while to pursue other project?  It's a daft thing to ask in a boxing thread but that's because it's daft to quote a wrestler as to what makes someone a bad professional because they are two completely different professions.

Eastenders has won 374 awards. Adam Woodyatt is a 5 time, 5 time, 5 time winner of Best Actor at the British Soap Awards. In his field he has had a career that few others can better, Cock Roache aside.

Martine McCutcheon only went on to be one of the main characters in a film that made 250 millionish at the box office as well as a lot of tv parts and a singing career, an Olivier Award and lots of work on the West End stage.

As for boxing and wrestling as different professions. Come on now Keith, boxing, wrestling, and MMA are all sold on the same basic premise. You are trying to get people to spend money on tickets, PPV,  or specialist networks based on people fighting, or pretending to fight. Mayweather is one of the best heels in boxing/wrestling/MMA and he understands the role perfectly. There is so much crossover between the 3 it's almost uncountable. Boxing has even gone the way of wrestling by devaluing the worth of the belts. Silver belts, regular champion, super champions, belts have never meant less.

  10. He's not done bad for himself I don't disagree, but like the other fighter you mentioned David Haye, he has lived the lifestyle. Haye made a shit load of money but ended up fighting Tony Bellew while on one leg, twice, for the money because he had burned through it all. The history of boxing is littered with fighters who spent all their money, and I would imagine Khan had some making up to do with his missus after he tweeted that she was banging Anthony Joshua. He needs the money as much as anyone.

As for the PPV buy rate. The only fight Crawford has had on PPV drew 50 thousand buys and Bob Arum lost money on it. He did a big number on espn for his last fight but does it translate to PPV?

We are not going to agree on this, you have your final say and we will leave it there.

, I just see him chasing Khan as similar to Junior Witter chasing a fight with Hatton back in the day

Isn't Khan chasing Pacquiao in the same way, and isn't Khan's problem that he chased Mayweather in the same way for so long that it lead to all the inactivity.

I just think Khan is a bad professional fighter. Its a dangerous sport, anyone who can't understand that you make as much money as you can, as easily as you can ends up selling their title belts on eBay like Ronnie Clarke. Sure Khan isn't going to starve on his 5 million dollar payday for the Crawford fight but he's potentially flushing away a lot more than that.

Look at it this way. The boxer who understands the game best is Floyd Mayweather. He has just got paid 9 million dollars for battering a tiny Japanese man. Floyd always tried to take the fight that made the most money for the least risk. If Khan had the same mentality as Mayweather, which fight should he take? Broken down Brook for more money, or top of his game Crawford for less. Then he should use his dislike of Brook to sell the fight to as many people as he can, thus making him more money.

Khan is a bad professional. Scott Hall once said about wrestlers that if you gave them the choice of 500 dollars a week to be champion and win every match  or a thousand dollars a week to lose every match then 99% of them would take the 500 dollars. Its about making the most money, and Khan is doing it wrong.

  12. Can I ask David, what your problem with Brook is. He's lost 2 fights against GGG and Errol Spence, 2 fighters who are undoubtedly top 10 pound for pound yet you seem to regard him as some sort of bum?

  13. I've nothing against Khan, he's just not the fighter he thinks he is, and it's disappointing he wasted so much time not fighting.

As for being a solid pro. If you are getting punched in the face for money, then you take the fight that makes you the most of it. That is the Brook fight. If he loses to Crawford the Paquiao fight is a non starter, then he's potentially lost more money.

Him v Brook is 50/50 with a big payday followed by the chance of another big payday if he wins. Him v Crawford is 5 million dollars for a fight he has a 10% chance of winning at best. A defeat diminishes the Brook payoff and ends the Pacquiao one. Be a solid pro, and make the most money you can.

  14. It's not the main reason, but it is part of the make up of his decision. Khan doesn't like Brook, that's very clear. Getting to headline a PPV with no expectation of winning against someone near the top of the pound for pound ranking isn't something new for Khan, he's done that 2 years ago. He is chasing Pacquiao the way Brook is chasing him, but he doesn't get the Pacquiao fight off the back of another loss.

Do you know who I never pretended, or even hinted at having any relevancy for. Kell fucking Brook. I want to see that fight as a punter because it is a 50/50 fight. It was a better fight 4 years ago, but right now its a fight that either of them could win. Id pay to see that fight,  I won't pay to see Khan v Crawford, I wouldn't even bother to illegally stream Khan v Pacquiao.

On a personal note, I think you can be a little long winded at times but you are generally worth the trouble of reading in the topics I see you post in. Ending your posts with "Sort yourself out" Just makes you look like a complete bellend. You dont have a great wealth of superior knowledge on this subject, you are just the same as the rest of us, talking shite on a message board.

  15. He's gone from relevant to reasonably relevant in less than 5 posts, a new record surely. What he will be after 5 more is anyone's guess.

Khan is good at keeping his name in the frame for lots of fights. He has name recognition value but no relevance as a fighter, ideal for Crawford.

  16. 31 minutes ago, David said:

He's relevant enough to be offered the fight with Crawford, isn't he? He's also relevant enough to reportedly be offered $2 million more than the original opponent for Crawford was.

He has been offered the Crawford fight, but only because they know He isn't world title level any more. The extra money is just time pressure. They wanted Crawford to fight on that date and they couldn't get the original fighter to agree to the fight. Khan gets the extra money because he is willing to fight then, and to spite Brook. Double win for him.

  17. Could you explain to me how much relevance Khan has? He has lost 3 of his last 10 fights. He has fought twice since May 2016, the first of which was against a proper bum. He looks like he has spent more time in a jungle camp than a training camp, and is living on former glory at best. The last time he fought for a proper World Title at his actual weight was 2014, the last time he fought for a World Title was 2016, and the last time he won a World Title was 2011. That's proper titles, no "Silver" bullshit.

  18. Khan isn't beating Crawford, but despite that he wants to fight him based purely on not wanting Brook to make any money. A fight between Khan and Brook while making more money is probably 50/50 on what breaks first, Khan's chin or Brooks eyes.

Khan has spent big chunks if his career chasing fighters who were never going to fight him, or poncing around I'm A Celeb. He is looking for fights now to try and secure his boxing legacy, but he will only be remembered as the bellend of I'm A Celeb or the man who knocks children over with a massive ball.
