  1. In regards to the commentary, we have been spoiled in the past.

Monsoons knack at making even the silliest angles seem important and real.

    Heenans comedy.

    JR's passion and intensity.

    Vince's over the top selling

Ventura's knack of being able to play off anyone.

Even Lawler in the late nineties was far more interesting character than the shell we have now.

Problem is the current team have been around so long. Lawler has been a commentator on and off for about 20 years. Cole around 15 years. Its mad when you think that JR was there for less than 10.

The current announce team is probably the smallest pool they've had in 30 years too.

Michael Cole and JBL seem to be on every show these day. But "back in my day" in the early 90's, you had Vince McMahon, Savage and Lawer on WWF Superstars, Monsoon (and later Jim Ross) with Bobby Heenan on Wrestling Challenge, and Heenan and McMahon with ugh, Rob Bartlett, on Raw. Added to that you also had Mr Perfect, Sean Mooney and Alfred Hayes on a rolling basis.

  2.

Imagine Road Warrior Hawk knocking on Brian Dixon's door in 1992 when the WWF 'tribute shows' were at their zenith?!

The funny thing is I read/heard that the British LOD guys (Johnny South and Ricky Knight) and the "real" LOD met somewhere like Germany and hit it off, no issues with anyone whatsoever. I'm sure someone like Ricky Knight can confirm if this is a fairytale or accurate.

    That's brilliant!

  3.  I also recall Lucha Libre on one of the foreign Sky channels on a Saturday afternoon, I think it was AAA but not 100% sure.

Yeah, Galavision. Was on Sunday nights for a while too.

World Class from Texas was definately shown on Bravo for a while though.

  4. Paul Heyman is currently being great on Ariel Helwani's show, The MMA Hour. He's an amazing raconteur; you can definitely see why some of the ECW lot have such a high opinion of themselves.

Check it out later. Helwani is really good at what he does too.

Is that interview all MMA? I love listening to Paul Heyman but have no interest in that MMA bollocks.

JR's is the first podcast I turn to, although I love Austin's as well. I don't find Jim Ross as annoying as most here, but have enjoyed his work as a broadcaster for so long that hearing him is almost akin to a comfort blanket.

  5. I watched the Bret 1992 shoot last night. Pretty much agree with what was said here, but wish he would lay off the anti-Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair stuff a bit. He can't acknowledge anything positive either have done apart from call Flair a 'hard worker'.

  6. Does anyone remember around 98 when Bravo started showing random old wrestling shows late at night? Might have been USWA or something? What was it?

I think it was World Class from Texas. Lots of Skandor Akbar from what I can remember.

  7. Chris Jericho, I don't get why he's so revered. I loved his stuff with Ralphus in WCW and his WWF debut, but can't think of anything he's done since that I've really enjoyed. Admittedly, I haven't been a rabid viewer for a few years but I even saw someone trying to promote Chris Jericho as 'Mr Wrestlemania' on JR's blog recently, which I found laughable.
