I'm gonna say Sting in WWE never felt right to me. I wanted to see it for years but I reckon it happened too late to really work. I'm actually grateful it was fairly short lived because I don't think I could have watched him doing much more than he did. Maybe it's the missed opportunity with him and Undertaker when it would have been hot. That Wrestlemania entrance was brilliant, even in broad daylight, but on the whole he never felt like he belonged there.

I'd kind of echo that. Tbh, I can see why Sting did it. He'd been on about 400k each year on his tna run and I don't think they could sustain it any longer.

Smart move really. Came over, got the HOF and WM paydays as well as all the merch and future merch from game deals.

As for him in wwe, From the moment he came out with that bizaare auburn hair (not black and hair gelled slicked back), it just didnt fit for me.

His WM match should have been him and Taker and it and the promos could have been epic as would the payoff.

Missed opportunity and waste... Hell yeah, smart business decision by Mr Borden....absolutely 👍

I've always thought WWF should have done that angle with Macho Man instead.
Savage, the 'old warhorse' wants to prove to himself that he's still the 'Macho Man'. He wants a shot at Bret. He thinks he's the best but he needs to prove it etc. Bret, out of respect, gives him the match [they had a great one in Japan around that time].
Savage gets out wrestled, gets frustrated, starts to cheat but never goes full heel. A mistake or some momentary moment of compassion costs him the match and Bret beats him clean with a small package or whatever. After the match we see Savage, frustrated. Bret offers his hand. Savage takes a moment and then 'snaps' and attacks Bret leading into a build to Survivor Series.
It would have certainly resulted in better matches - Savage proved in WCW that he still had a lot left to offer - and would have been much more of a 'draw' than Bet/acklund in my opinion.

    That would have been epic

  3. No mention of Sherri?

    Shame on you people.

    Watch Sherri 80s stuff e.g.

    https://youtu.be/eLeHlWxiVj0

For me greatest female wrestler and manager/valet ever. Watch her work the crowd, get nuclear heat, the facial expressions (smug,. Self admiring of her work is a fave). The visciousness and noises she makes. She's everything u want in a wrestler (male or female package wise).

Factor in she was a looker and could work and talk and she had it all.

Special alpha female points as well. For being able to hang with that wwe 80s crew and party scene and was apparently hard as fuck as well.

They don't make them like her anymore... Sadly taken far too soon

  4. Greg valentine in his last wwf years.

Heres Valentine vs Perfect for the IC title in 91. Never seen it until recently

    https://youtu.be/UtoeIGZsALU

I had a bizaare fondness for the 'hammer' he was the antithesis of whom I loved back then (hogan/ warrior) yet never fast forwarded old Greg on my VHS tapes!

For some reason I always bought he had a chance against anyone even when looking back he obviously had no chance (e.g vs Taker back in His debut year).

  5. Hi guys

Steiner collapsed at the Impact taping, was rushed to ED by paramedics and is apparently to undergo a heart procedure.

For his family I hope he's okay however the news relating to it is quite vague and not re-assuring.

Obviously people will read into it what they will but we should know more in the coming days.

Does make you wonder why he dropped so much muscle mass so quickly a couple of years ago?

  6. Is it cheating if I go with survivor series 1988 the teams of 5 vs 5

Bulldogs, harts, powers of pain, young stallions, rockers

    Vs

Demolition, bolshevics, rougeaus, conquistadors, brain busters

    Maybe my fave match ever!

That reminds me of that indy promoter back in the day having a big blow-up with Samoa Joe. This was back when Kenny Omega was still on the circuit, and was nowhere near his current level - he was main-eventing for this indy promotion, and Joe as the guest star just jobbed him out, apparently gave him nothing at all. When the promoter called him out on it, saying that he didn't ask Joe to put him over, just to give him a bit of a rub, Joe apparently told him that he should've known that that's what you're asking for when you book Samoa Joe. Load of bollocks.

    Total horseshit attitude.

The wrestler is a paid contractor, he should do within resosn what is asked or at least stick to the theme.

If he doesn't do it I'd withold his pay, or only pay a percentage.

Hate this fucking sense of entitlement. Promoters can and will be dicks but they are the ones paying the salary. If a wrestler doesn't like it don't work indies or for a promoter. Theyll soon go hungry when the phone stops.

As for flipping the kid off. Cunt thing to do. This isn't 1977 in kayfabe world whereby wrestlers would kick a kid to protect the business, its 2020.

I think some wrestlers use the gimmick as an excuse for their antics/behaviour.

Utter shit.  Wrestling is physical theater, its acting. They werent at a show Where's its part of the 'act'.

Even steiner is good with kids. He's a dad FFs and knows the score.

Let's see how he'd fair if he walked down the street like that..... Get the shit kicked out of him I'd wager.

Brets scenario is also totally different. It was tv and the show, Not backstage and 'real'

From everything I've read on here, and what little I've seen of WWE over the past few years, I really don't think it's that at all. It seems like it's purely down to WWE seemingly losing the ability to make stars like they used to. Roman Reigns has a shit-ton of charisma, as does Dean Ambrose/Jon Moxley, and even Seth Rollins has it until he's in the ring. Bray Wyatt certainly does, as does Big E, and Daniel Bryan has that weird, low-key charisma that people just can't help but be drawn to.

Other people who watch WWE more than I do can probably testify better, but just on basic, natural ability alone, I'd argue that, if those guys had been on the rise even as late as 2006, they'd be huge right now.

CB you seriously think that list you've mentioned have are in the same universe, Charisma, look and star power of hogan, rock, Austin, flair, savage, warrior etc.

    You are kidding right???

Christ, what the current crop of talent would do to be able to command crowd reactions like that!

Sadly I think 99% of today's stars just lack that cheer star power and charisma.

Hogan, and rock and even Kane (to a far lesser degree) piss it in droves.

Vince and Co would sell their grandkids for a few stars the likes of hogan, Austin, flair, rock, savage, warrior to turn up on their door.

Hell even a low mid card guy like Rick Martell has 100000x more star power and charisma than today's lot

I came to nominate having read the thread.

Watching some 1980s early 1990s stuff at the moment and the Mania V match is ace as are many others.

I'm glad Powers of Pain have been nominated, ditto Orient Express. I liked Heel Teams growing up.

Strike Force worth a mention? Santana and Martel don't have stinkers with anyone as a team, did they?

Loved StrikeForce. 2 super workers in their prime.  These guys could have a great match with 2 Tins of tuna as opponents!

  11. Ha ha, I was actually trying to show someone that Sandman was once jacked (ala ecw return) and that Taker pic was a byproduct.

As a whole I'm a BIG Taker fan but that look he sported around the end of  American badass period just turned me right off.

I remember hating it back then but I didn't remember it looking quite so shit!

Martel still rocking the gimmick at 64.

    Martel still looks fucking class.

3x Wwf World tag Champ when it wa S BIG deal.

Had it all. The look, Charisma, physique, working ability, promo etc.

If he walked into Wwe now as a 26 year old your looking at the wwe star of the next 15 years. Guy pisses on 99% of the players today.

Check out this promo. Who now can cut shit like this https://youtu.be/r-B2VVuzsEw

  13. Halloween Havoc 98.

One can only imagine what insanity (and powder) was going on behind the scenes to churn out this!

This is terrific in its badness and baffling lineup. Probably sporting the greatest wrestling roster in history at the time and you end up with:

Wrath, meng, Disco, Finlay, Wright, Saturn, Lodi etc on the card???

An utter mess form start to finish the highlight is of course the 8 years in the making rematch between Hogan and Warrior.

A match they try and recreate spot for spot.... Badly!

Warrior, about 30lbs shy of his 1990 self, a tonne of ring rust and 2 torn biceps has the timing of norman wisdom in there and Hogan (usually a reliable hand) is equally off.

A highlight is an insane botch where Hogan tries to throw a fireball in warriors face but only manages to hit his own boat!

The beauty of this ppv is that it was right in wcw hot period, features hogan, warrior, Hall, nash, steiner, sting, ddp, bret Hart, Goldberg  etc and yet is still prolapse inducingly bad!
