The "UK Luchador" makes another huge leap up the rankings and secures an astonishing 6th place in the 2007 UKFF 50, which is sure to divide opinion.

In 3CW, the minature masked man has been a member of the extended Kraze family (which also includes Cameron Kraze, Kyle Kraze, Marky B Kraze, Busta Kraze, Jetta Kraze and the mysterious Big Daddy Kraze). August 2006 saw him defeat Scotland's Liam Thompson but lose to Ireland's Darragh Gallighan in North Ormesby and Northallerton respectively. The Northallerton show was also memorable for former Toryumon star SUWA abandoning his main event tag match, dragging a merchandise-selling Ligero from his stall in the foyer, then beating him up for no apparent reason other than because he thought it would be fun. That, and because he thinks skinny white guys are shit. Shiiiiiiiit.

From there, the remainder of the "Mexican Kraze's" 2006 in 3CW found him take part in a really shite 4-way tag match at "Darkest Deeds III", then team with EdEn and Martin Kirby to cost the town of Northallerton the right to celebrate Christmas in a specially stipulated comedy 6-man tag against Los Pervitos and "Pop Sensation" Jayson Mayson on "Fight Before Christmas - Night One", before avenging their loss on "Night Two" in Middlesbrough. The beginning of 2007 saw SUWA return to 3CW, and Ligero hilariously try to gain revenge for the unprovoked attack 5 months earlier. Ligero first tried to jump SUWA after the dickish Jap had beaten Darkside, only to get another beating. Then, in that show's titular "Free for All" 30-man rumble, SUWA and Ligero were paired together in the early stages, allowing them to finish their enjoyable mini-series of clashes with Ligero finally getting his own back. The next 3CW shows found Ligero falling to defeat at the hands (or, rather, feet) of an in-form Little Dragon in a superb Northallerton bout, then participate in a really good 6-way elimination bout at the "3rd Anniversary Show" in Billingham which saw him clash with the newly heel Martin Kirby in the beginnings of a series of well-received matches that they would take to various promotions up and down the country, including South Yorkshire's NWL and Bedfordshire's PTW. A series of nondescript tag matches alongside his Kraze "cousins" brings his 3CW career up to present.

Over in GPW (where he actually rose to his initial stardom a few years ago as the comedy sidekick - then blood rival - of JC Thunder), Ligero has continued to play a major role on the monthly cards at the Monaco Ballroom in Hindley, near Wigan. A loss to "The Model" Danny Hope in July was followed up by a win over Holland's Kenzo Richards in September which earned him a place in GPW's year-ending "Crazy Cruiser8" tournament. Held on the November show, Ligero was paired with SIN member The Juice in the 1st round, and was eliminated in an excellent opening contest that set the pace for one of the best British shows of 2006. 2007 kicked off with a 4-way wins over Jiggy Walker, Sam Bailey and Rupert Holmes in January, then The Juice, Bubblegum and Elroy Doogle in February. His pinfall over the man who had eliminated him from the "Crazy Cruiser8" led to a feud between Ligero and Juice, starting with a 1-on-1 at the March show. After Ligero had secured a 2nd consectutive pinfall over the SIN member, Juice lost it, attacked Ligero after the bell, and stole his mask...

Juice mockingly wore Ligero's mask to the ring the following month for their rematch, which Ligero won again. The two also battled in the show's closing roster-wide fight, and with Juice refusing to accept defeat, Ligero and Juice captained opposing teams at the Survivor Series-inspired May show. After Ligero eliminated Juice, his mask was ripped off once again, leading to the "Luchador" being eliminated himself immediately after. With the rivalry reaching boiling point, the climatic "Los Sancho Streetfight" was signed for the June show. A crazy and enthralling 20-minute brawl, the two enemies used a traffic cone, a stop-go sign, steel chair and drawing pins before Ligero (who was dressed in his jeans for this hardcore match) went down to Juice's leg-capture Death Valley Driver.

As a regular for Doncaster's 1PW, Ligero was victorious in a superb match with his counterpart from the other side of the Atlantic, El Generico, at the "First Anniversary Show" in October 2006, followed by a submission loss to PWG/ROH star Davey Richards at "1PW Will Not Die" in January 2007. He's also had time in 1PW to squeeze in a tag team loss (with cult hero G-Man) to JoJo, a loss to the legendary Ultimo Dragon and a 3-way victory over Delirious and Mad Man Manson's masked alter-ego, as well as an altogether un-superb 2 out of 3 falls rematch with Generico.

Though he only ever made a handful of appearances for the FWA during it's 8-year history, Ligero has definitely become a regular for it's replacement up in Morecambe, the XWA. Going head-first into a feud with British Flyweight Champion "Bombay Dream" Ross Jordan, Ligero was instrumental in causing Jordan to become victim to the Manchester Massive's (Declan O'Connor and Joey Hayes) first ever F/XWA win, before eliminating him from that show's main event "Gold Rush" rumble match and then beating the champ again in a tag match (with Spud, vs. Jordan and Ligero's GPW nemesis The Juice). Though Jordan managed a non-title win over Ligero on the June RQW show in Colchester, the eagerly-anticipated Flyweight Championship match between the two is currently one of the biggest matches XWA fans can look forward to.

Of course, I've so far only described a handful of the many promotions that Ligero frequents. As a regular for Swindon's 4FW, he's both teamed with and faced Bubblegum, before they took their "Hubba Bubba Lucha" tag team into RQW's British Tag Team Title tournament (where they lost to Jack Storm and Dave Moraelz in a great 1st round bout). He also represented 4FW in a crap 4-way match on the National Under-23 Championships show in Ware (where?), Hertfordshire in November, taking on Chris Stone, Charlie Rage and Chris Recall in a victorious effort. In the West Midlands for Triple-X Wrestling, the debuting El Ligero beat Quentin Hyde-Styles for the Crush Title in a comedy hardcore match in February, before losing it in his first defense to the also-debuting "Anarchist" Doug Williams in a similarly cartoon-like brawl in April, both being incredibly entertaining bouts (the TXW Crush Title is only eligible to be defended against TXW debutants, and features falls count anywhere rules). Across in the East Midlands, Ligero has racked up wins over Dave Frasier, Kris Travis/Sash/Nitrus (tag), Brad Flash, Spud and Kris Travis (singles) for NBW....

SAS Wrestling, Futureshock, Northern Wrestling League, Power Trip Wresting, 4 Front Wrestling, Triple-X Wrestling, 21st Century Wrestling, Anglian Championship Wrestling, Norton British Wrestling, 3 Count Wrestling, Real Quality Wresting, X Wrestling Alliance, Garage Pro Wrestling, 1 Pro Wrestling and countless others have called upon Ligero's services in the last 12 months, and his ability to adapt his style to any type of audience or any type of match or feud context has led to a strong following and being held in high-regard.

Ligro is a very good lightheavyweight wretler but it's had for me to rank him as on the best in the UK.

Ligero is the best light heavyweight guy in this country. He deserves to be in the top 10 or top 5. Bubblegum aswell. No shock that Pac is there but id put Ligero higher than Pac but obviously thats not going to happen, just my opinion.

With respect, how many British shows do you watch per year? I mean you're in Israel for Christs sake, what have you seen of El Ligero in the last 12 months? What have you seen of most of the UKFF 50 in the last 12 months?

No. 5 - Bubblegum

2006 Ranking: 37

The man from Hubba Bubbaville makes the biggest leap up the rankings of anyone. Though he has played a mid-card attraction role for promotions such as RQW, SAS, 4FW, PBW and XWA, others like GPW and NBW have pushed him as their lead babyface and company "ace", leading to a top 5 finish.

Worshipped as somewhat of a God in GPW's home of Wigan (where fans atually blow bubbles during his entrance~~), Bubblegum spent summer 2006 in a bitter feud with GPW's lead heel (and SIN leader) Heresy. Having won a 30-man rumble to earn a shot at Heresy's GPW International Title, Bubblegum had seen his main event challenge for the belt end in just 3 seconds on the next show, after Heresy knocked him out with a brick before the match in a moment (as JNLister said at the time: only GPW could book a much-anticipated main event to go 3-seconds and ensure that all the heat was on the heels as opposed to the promotion - that's booking). So, it came down to a Lumberjack match for the International Title in July. After a wild, chaotic and heated match, Heresy used a low-blow to assist his title retention.

From there, Bubblegum set his sights on the year-ending "Crazy Cruiser8" tournament. He beat Danny Hope, Sam Bailey and Rupert Holmes to qualify in a September 4-way then, with his place secured, saw of SIN's attempts to put him out of the tourney by beating Johnny Phere in October. The "Crazy Cruiser8" itself took pride of place on the November show, and (as I've said in numerous other profiles before) was one of the very best British pro wrestling events of 2006. After beating "Shooting Star" Kris Travis (Bubblegum's NBW nemesis...more on that later) in a fantastic opener, he bested SIN's Juice in a thrilling semi-final. His final appeared to be in doubt, however, as he was subjected to a post-match beatdown by SIN members Juice and Joseph Hayes (who had himself already advanced to become 'Gum's final opponent). Courageously, Bubblegum appeared later in the main event final, taped up and ready to fight. Hayes dominated the spellbinding encounter, but Bubblegum refused to give in and showed heart and determination to fight back and hit a spectacular shooting star press for the trophy-winning 3-count to wrap up a fabulous contest.

2007 began with the "CC8" semi-finalists battling in a tag match, as SIN beat Bubblegum and Darkside, before his luck didn't improve in a 4-way the next month as the Ligero-Juice rivalry took centre stage, 'Gum and Elroy Doogle making up the numbers. Bubblegum didn't wrestle on the next 2 GPW shows, but did return in May to draw the GPW Raffle (which I believe is some form of cheap imitation of the Morecambe Raffle (clap clap clapclapclap), Stockport Raffle (clap clap clapclapclap) or Broxbourne Speed Raffle~)...where he was shockingly attacked by the monstrous Juggernaught, directed by Alan Alan Alan Tasker. This led directly to a match in June, where Bubblegum first beat Alan Alan Alan Alan Alan Alan Tasker in a very enjoyable segment, before overcoming all odds to defeat the bigger, stronger, more powerful Jugs in a rather good bout.

In the East Midlands, Bubblegum has been given similar treatment by NBW. As one half of the NBW Tag Team Champions with Stixx, Bubblegum was NBW's most beloved babyface. Picking things up in summer 2006, Gum was in the middle of a long-running and hate-fuelled feud with NBW Cruiserweight Champion Kris Travis. Bubblegum and Stixx successfully defended their belts against Travis and James Tighe in July, setting up the climatic Gum vs. Travis Streetfight for the Cruiserweight strap. Taking the main event slot in November at the "Weekend Madness - Night One", the much-vaunted and oft-referred to thriller was NBW's Match of 2006. An insane epic featuring just about every houshold object eventually saw Bubblegum powerbomb his arch-enemy onto a pile of drawing pins to win the strap. That the usually un-hardcore Bubblegum was involved in such a bout only got over the issue between the two men even more, and the emotional result was plain to see.

In 2007, the cracks began to show in the tag champs relationship, as Stixx was increasingly being tempted to the darkside (n. the Scottish wrestler....) by Ross Jordan and Sir Thomas Chamberlain. Stixx's rule-breaking intntions caused friction between the two, directly leading to them dropping the tag straps to Angelblade and Tiger X in February. The situation blew its top at the "April Fools Brawl" where special referee Stixx made his choice and attacked our Bubblegum, causing him to drop the Cruiserweight belt to Jordan in the main event. With that show ending with Bubblegum seemingly taken down and out, the stage is all set for a heroic and vengeful comeback as Gum looks to get back at the newly-formed Capital City Clique....

Bubblegum has been no stranger to tag team action elsewhere either. Up in Scotland, he linked up with Brad Fusion to win the PBW Tag Team Titles in a 4-way in October, before scratching up successful defences against Tommy Turner/Nathan Reynolds, Red Lightning/Allan Grogan and the Nattrass Boys, still reiging as champions to this day. He also enjoyed an incredibly brief run as IPW UK Tag Team Champion alongside Luke "Dragon" Phoenix, when he stepped in to replace the injured Spud in December 2006. After a successful defence against JC Thunder and Blockbusta in Swanley (boo), Bubblegum lost the Dragonheart's gold when he was the one pinned by Swiss Money Holding (Are$ and Claudio Castagnoli) the next night in Colchester. Phoenix did not look happy, but the obvious scenario failed to materialise...

Back in England, Bubblegum has formed the Hubba Bubba Lucha tag team with fellow pleather-clad high-flyer El Ligero and seen action in SAS Wrestling, 4FW, Futureshock and RQW, where they were knocked out of the British Tag Team Title tournament in the first round by Team Charming (Don Charles' team of Jack Storm and Dave Moralez) in the best match of the February York Hall show. Gum has also seen singles and tag action away from Ligero in Futureshock Wrestling (as the FSW and GPW rosters continue to increasingly overlap), Real Deal Wrestling (based in East Yorkshire/Lincolnshire) and the old FWA (where he clashed with "Psychotic Warrior" and old SIN opponent Johnny Phere in Cleethorpes and Morecambe). Representing GPW in November 2006's National Under-23 Championships in Ware (where?), Hertfordshire, Bubblegum beat 3CW's Chris Whitton in the first round, before putting over the latest rising star of British wrestling, eventual winner Sam Slam, in a fantastic semi-final.

Tags or singles, midcard or main event, Bubblegum has established himself as one of the most reliable and continually impressive performers on the circuit, thus his plethora of bookings in promotions the lenght and breadth of the entire country.
