Didn't Aisu used to wear a really gay mask?

He used to wear an Averno (rudo luchador in CMLL) mask on the way to the ring and removed it before the match started, Naomichi Marufuji-style.*******************************************************************************No. 15 - Wolfgang2006 Ranking: 442005 Ranking: Not ListedMoving Up1287038737a4219989456b264913287l.jpgPhoto - PBW's Bebo pageHUGE leap for one of Scotland's very top wrestlers of the moment. SWA, BCW, ICW, PBW...there has hardly been a Scottish promotion that Wolfgang has not been a regular for in the last 12 months. In SWA, Wolfgang has been a key member of the leading heel faction, the A-List. Along with Johnny Darko, Micken, Falcon, Cage Tyler, Darkside etc, he has been causing trouble for the organisation's babyfaces. Playing the numbers game, Wolfgang has either benefitted from A-List interference in his matches, or has himself been the one interfering on the behalf of his mates. After racking up interference-laden singles wins against GC Mac and Lionheart, Wolfgang's A-List won a specially stipulated elimination tag at "Clan Wars III" in March 2007 to gain creative control of the April show, "Point of Impact II". Giving themselves an SWA Tag Team Title shot, Wolfgang and Falcon paired up and defeated the Laandstrom Institute to win the gold. However, the match saw the start of dissention between Wolfgang and Falcon, despite their championship win. This tension cost them the titles in their very first defence, as the increasingly babyface Falcon firstly refused to tag in, then lay down for Britain's Most Wanted (Scott Renwick and Damien O'Conor), costing Wolfgang his belt.Over in Premier British Wresting, Wolfgang has reigned supreme as the PBW Heavyweight Champion, successfully retaining against Allan Grogan, Jay Phoenix, Liam Thompson, Lionheart, Bad Bones and Red Lightning in successive PBW main event singles matches, and against Lionheart, Phoenix/Wallace and Dave Moralez in a 4-way ladder match.Speaking of ladder matches, Wolfgang had what many believe to be the Scottish Match of the Year against Lionheart in just such a contest in BCW in September 2006. After a reportedly thrilling bout, Wolfgang won the BCW Openweight Title.Having also appeared in England for the North-East's WZW and the Nattrass Boys' Triple Team Promotions, Wolfgang has been spreading his wings. I might be thinking of someone else. The guy I'm thinking of I see live at PWG European vacation in Orpington. I remember people chanting "Who are ya?" and "You ate all the pies"EDIT: I'm talking about Ronin, who does indeed suck.

Dragon Aisu wasn't on the PWG European Vacation show. You might be thinking of ANDY SIMMONZ!!, who may have worn a skeleton mask to the ring. Also, Lantern's slowness in responding to questions continues to separate the 3rds from the 2nds around here.... ;)

Well done to Wolfgang for being so high in the top 50 compared with the previous year.

I'm talking about Ronin, who does indeed suck.

You know who the PWG Ronin reminds me of? If Ebbesan decided to do one of his parody acts as Super Dragon. In both look and wrestling style.

Also, Lantern's slowness in responding to questions continues to separate the 3rds from the 2nds around here....

Who had the picture though? Eh? Eh? Edited by Leicester Lantern

No. 14 - "Rowdy" Ricky Knight

2006 Ranking: 19

2005 Ranking: 7

Moving Back Up

A 5-place increase for "The Rowdy One" as he holds on to his Top 20 position here in 2007. The WAW big cheese and head of the Knight wrestling dynasty has continued to bring old school havoc to audiences across the country.

Knight is very much a staple of his own WAW shows in Norfolk, HEW events in Essex (where he feuded with former UWA/UCW/FWA referee/commentator/manager Steve Lynsky) and RDW cards in East Yorkshire (which saw him compete in the 2006 and 2007 King of the Castle tournaments, as well as being lined-up for the forthcoming Mixed Tag Team tourney). He's also made his way up to Scotland, competing for W3L.

In January 2007, Ricky Knight arrived in RQW and signed his contract for an RQW British Heavyweight Title shot against champion Martin Stone. The title match itself took place in February at York Hall, with Stone retaining in a bruising brawl. Knight then led his WAW troops into battle against sunny Morecambe's XWA in an attempt to regain the National Inter-Federation Cup. At "War on the Shore III" in April, WAW's Knight and XWA's Darren Burridge fought to a double-DQ in their first round match, and then continued the war when they were the last 2 men in the 4 vs. 4 elimination tag match to decide the fate of the Cup. With the shocking assistance of a turncoat Stevie Knight (no relation), Ricky pinned Darren to bring the trophy home to Norfolk.

At the July XWA show, "Vendetta", Knight was due to continue the WAW vs. XWA rivalry in a non-wrestling showdown with Alex Shane. When Shane didn't make it, Knight instead wrestled in the main event against a man that he trained, the XWA-debuting Sam Slam. Though he lost, Knight did his job and went some way in ensuring that the new guy was instantly accepted as a new idol to da kidz in Morecambe.

In their first defence of the Inter-Fed Cup, Knights new-look Team WAW headed down to Portsmouth in July to face the challenge of IPW:UK. Knight himself also had an IPW UK Title shot against JC Thunder. In what turned out to be a bad night (pun fully intended) for our Ricky, he was first beaten by JC and then lost the final pinfall in the 8-man elimination tag to IPW:UK's Dan Head, meaning the Cup had new owners so quickly after it had last changed hands.

Ricky returns to tournament action back up in Morecambe this September, as he is one of 8 partcipants in the 1-night XWA "Battle of Britain."

No. 13 - "Wildcat" Robbie Brookside

2006 Ranking: 7

2005 Ranking: 3

Moving Down

2007 sees the British veteran slip out fo the Top 10, but still hold onto a strong position in the UKFF 50.

Already the reigning RQW British Heavyweight Champion, July 2006 saw Robbie Brookside continuing to lead Team All Star against the FWA. The anti-FWA uber-heel nearly provoked a riot in Morecambe when he took advantage of the Hade Vansen vs. Jonny Storm rivalry to win the FWA British Heavyweight Championship in a 3-way, ending Hade's 6-month reign. The mega-popular Storm was the fans' choice, and so the long buildup began.

August found Brookside involved in ROH's week-long stay in the UK, seeing competition on both weekends of the tour. Firstly, he defended the FWA title against fellow All Star regular Chad Collyer in a dull match in his native Liverpool (but one that the entire roster of the US promotion sneaked out to watch) and then teamed with Nigel McGuinness and Colt Cabana to defeat Chris Hero, Claudio Castagnoli and Collyer the next night in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. 5 days later, (FWA British Heavyweight champion) Brookside was entered in the 3-way Battle of Champions against (ROH World and Pure champion) "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson and (IPW UK champion) Martin Stone, being the main event of "Frontiers of Honor II" in Swanley (boo). An entertaining match on a poor show, Brookside was pinned by a man who he had had a hand in training, Danielson.

In September, Brookside successfully defended his FWA title against James Tighe in Morecambe thanks to interference from his All Star buddy Five Star Flash and turncoat referee Lance Lenihan. When all hell broke loose post-match, however, a Jonny Storm-led trio (Storm, Tighe and Stevie Knight) beat Brookside, Flash and Lenihan in a bonus main event.

The rebirth of RQW didn't involve Brookside, and so he was no longer recognised as their champion, nor was he involved in the tournament to crown a new title-holder. He was still the FWA champion, and his 2007 started with him retaining against Darren Burridge in a Mountevans Rules match at "Gold Rush" in February. In the actual "Gold Rush" match itself (rumble), however, Brookside's nemesis Jonny Storm outlasted the other competitors to finally earn his shot at Brookside's gold. The match was signed for FWA's next show.

Before that, however, Brookside's role as FWA Champion meant that he appeared on the big IPW:UK vs. FWA "Final Frontiers" show in Orpington. Still maintaining his strictly anti-FWA stance, he had no interest in representing Team Frontier, and instead he and the IPW UK Champion ANDY SIMMONZ!! (who was himself an anti-IPW:UK heel) turned their Champion vs. Champion contest into an opportunity to wind up the smart fans. After several minutes of purposefully boring "wrestling", Brookside and SIMMONZ!! decided that neither the FWA fans nor the IPW:UK fans were worthy of seeing them compete, and so they abandoned their match....He would come back to make an impact in the main event that night (along with about 39 others) though, as his interference was instrumental in costing FWA's Flash Barker the match against IPW:UK's Martin Stone that consigned the FWA name to the history books. FWA owner Greg Lambert swore revenge...

With the Morecambe wrestling shows rebranded as "XWA", Brookside vs. Storm for the British Heavyweight Title took place at "War on the Shore III" in April. An epic, super-heated confrontation, Brookside allowed himself to be distracted by XWA promoter (and "good guy" up in Morecambe) Greg "The Truth" Lambert, and fell to a roof-raising pinfall that crowned Jonny the new champion.

Of course, the "Wildcat" has continued to be a staple of All Star Wrestling shows up and down the land throughout the last 12 months, and though his frame may be ageing, he shows no signs of cutting his grueling schedule.

No. 12 - "Bird of Prey" Falcon

2006 Ranking: 21

2005 Ranking: Not Listed

Moving Up

SWA's masked man follows up an awesome UKFF 50 debut with a 9-place rise through the ranks a year later.

Having just lost a main event title match against NWA Scottish Heavyweight Champion Eric Canyon, Falcon entered July 2006 alongside his A-List comrades in looking for another shot. His role on SWA shows was mainly limited to running interference for his stablemates over the next few months, though September's "Battlezone" saw him enter the 30-man Deal Or No Deal rumble at No. 1, last until the end, but not manage to secure any of the mystery prizes contained in boxes. "Call to Arms" in October saw his luck change, however, as he was the sole survivor for Team A-List (Falcon, Micken, Cage Tyler and Johnny Darko) as they beat Team Shame (Adam Shame, Lionheart, White Tiger and Martin Kirby). The follow-up 2 vs. 2 tag match at "November 2 Remember" saw Falcon (and Darko) fall to Lionheart and Tiger, and then being called out by Lionheart to start 2007.

Before the big Falcon vs. Lionheart match in March, Falcon faced Dragon Aisu in February. This time, it was A-List interference that directly cost him the victory, as it backfired and allowed Aisu to get the win. Therefore, Falcon rejected the offer of assistance from his A-List friends for the Lionheart match and went into the bout at "Clan Wars III" standing alone. Proving that he didn't need to resort to shortcuts, the "Bird of Prey" beat Lionheart in a straight-up wrestling match and even shook his defeated opponent's hand out of respect after the bout. A change of attitude for Falcon?

Signs of further separation between Falcon and the A-List showed up at the April show, when Falcon firstly argued with his stablemates, and then shoved his tag partner Wolfgang out of the ring to again go at it alone and single-handedly win the SWA Tag Team Titles from the Laandstrom Institute. The new champions were not getting on well at all, as Wolfgang smacked Falcon with one of their tag belts at "Battlezone 2007" in May, costing him his match against Jamie Walker, and meaning that Falcon had to enter that evening's Battlezone rumble match as the No. 1 entrant.

With Adam Shame having to surrender his NWA Scottish Heavyweight Championship after a sickening injury, the Battlezone match was to decide the vacant title. Falcon had lasted the entire match in 2006....and repeated the feat in the 2007 interpretation. With the crowd support now fully behind him (and, indeed, gradually increasingly so as the match progressed), Falcon finally tossed Johnny Moss and Majik over the ropes simultaneously to win the Battlezone, and the NWA Scottish Heavyweight Title, in one of the biggest and most emotional moments of the year.

Formerly a regular for the promotion, Falcon has not featured for Teesside's 3CW at all during the 2006-7 UKFF 50 year and so, much like fellow SWA wrestler Conscience, his English appearances have been limited to Triple-X Wrestling. As a member of the Tartan Mafia (along with Adam Shame, and formerly Chris Renfrew and Johnny Milla), Falcon went to war with eXodus and JekkeL. After beating exOdus (and Andy Shoes and CK Light) at "~" in September, Renfrew was permanently taken out, leaving Falcon and Shame to face exodUs and jEkkEl in a climatic Tables match at "Hallowe'en Jimmy Havoc". The Tartan Mafia lost the violent bout, and the overall feud, but retained their main event spot for the next show ("Chop Him in the Valentines!!" - Feb 07), where they battled the returning-from-injury Devilman and "E-Train" Edgar Styles in a great match. Again, they lost, but then rebounded to defeat Unnamed Team #47 (Zack Sabre Jr and Jimmy Havoc) in another super tag bout at "First Annual First Anniversary Show I".

Falcon's NWA Scottish Heavyweight Title reign has so far been strong, with him beating Majik and Moss in a 3-way in June and then pinning Eric Canyon at "Violation 2007" up in SWA, and then successfully defending the belt against super-talented Midlands rookie Ashton Smith in TXW. While he may have a shit, shit mask ( ;) ), he is undoubtedly one of the UK's premier performers and is sure to have a major role in the Scottish wrestling showcase show, "The Gathering", this September (rumoured to be the 6-way Ladder Match...).
