Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted January 1, 2016 Awards Moderator Share Posted January 1, 2016 LAST YEAR'S WINNER: ROBBIE LAWLER Â Â Who fought best in 2015? Feel free to explain your choice, or explain to casual MMA fans why these four are the top four, below!
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 1, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted January 1, 2016 (edited) Any of those four would be worthy winners. Â - Holly Holm for pulling off one of the biggest upsets of the year and ending Ronda Rousey's title reign and undefeated streak. And the way she did it. Total dominance and then a nasty headkick KO. She's up there solely for that one win because her previous two UFC fights were pretty crap. But that win was huge. One of the best moments of 2015, and I'm a Rousey fan. Â - Joanna Jedrzejczyk is fucking brilliant. Undefeated and carried herself like a champion even before she was the champion. She's gone 3-0 this year and in dominant fashion. She beat Carla Esparza in a fight everyone thought she'd get outwrestled in. Not only that, she absolutely destroyed Esparza. Then she smashed Jessica Penne to bits in Germany. Google the pictures of Penne's face after that fight. She butchered Penne. Then she beat Valerie Letourneau with a great display of striking technique and defensive grappling. She's a bad woman. She's also the first ever Polish UFC champion and only the third European to win UFC gold. Â - Luke Rockhold went 2-0 in 2015. He beat down and submitted Lyoto Machida in April. Then became the middleweight champion and the first man to beat Chris Weidman (the man who ended Anderson Silva's reign of terror) at UFC 194 in December. He beat the shit out of Weidman as well. I was close to 50/50 going in, Rockhold's dominance over Weidman was quite shocking. Â Conor McGregor runs away with this for me though. He gets my vote. He was knocking on the door to becoming the biggest star in MMA last year. This year he kicked the door off and Irish tapdanced all over it. He dominated the MMA headlines all year. His rivalry with Jose Aldo was the story of the UFC in 2015. He was part of two of the biggest PPVs in UFC history this year. He was part of a media world tour to promote the Aldo fight (something that's never been done for any one fight before). He brought in massive crowds to his press conferences and weigh ins that rivalled and outdrew some actual fight cards. Oh and he delivered in the cage as well. 3-0 with 3 knockouts in 2015. He battered Dennis Siver in January. He came through adversity to KO Chad Mendes in July. Then in December he knocked out Jose Aldo, the greatest featherweight MMA had ever known, in THIRTEEN FUCKING SECONDS! Â I'm not surprised one bit that McGregor is pissing this poll. Unbelievable year he's had. Edited January 1, 2016 by wandshogun09
Guy Bifkin
Yep, McGregor should walk this. When he used to say things like "we're here to take over" after his fights it seemed like a funny pro wrestling style promo but he's actually done it. Right up to the Aldo fight I've had my doubts but he's answered every one emphatically. Add to that what a unique, refreshing approach he has to the business and you have the biggest star in the sport in 2015. I can't wait to see what he gets up to next year - there seems to be 4-5 massive fights just waiting for him.
Paid Members lambyUK Posted January 7, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted January 7, 2016 Mcgregor is easily the stand out choice. The guy is incredible and could well be the become the biggest mma fighter we've ever seen, if he's not already.  The other 3 nominees are brilliant, and if there was a favourite moment nom then Holly Holm would probably win.
