jimufctna24
The Americans should hope Fight Pass becomes central to UFC business. A 12:99 a month fee (or however much Fight Pass costs in America), will probably be cheaper than the 45-55 dollar fee they for each PPV. As it stands this is unlikely to happen, as thanks to Rousey and McGregor, they are making a bucket from PPV revenue. Plus, they just set a prelim ratings record on Fox Sports. Their current approach is working well.  All in all, we get a decent deal in this country. I don't think Fight Pass has done much business over here (moneybags seanz25 being an exception). It's no wonder they are trying a but to get more subscribers. However, if Wand isn't tempted, then you have to believe that most MMA fans won't be either.
seanz25
I think you'll find moneybags me was the one giving it the big one about claiming fightpass of UFC rewards  Yeah the fight pass thing is interesting though, I reckon we're gonna eventually get Demetrious Johnson title fights till he starts becoming a draw for the company, if ever on there. Gotta remember UFC get 100% of the money from FP as it's there own service. PPV they get a small cut of I believe as the cable and satellite providers take a huge chunk of it.  I understand your point Wand, in principle to me though it's a good idea, especially as currently it costs fuck all through the rewards setup. There wouldn't be any reason to put events on PPV if they received a small cut.  I wouldn't be surprised if it were the other way around as the satellite companies aren't the ones in power to put on an event. If that were the case, the UFC would just do as you say, and give themselves the exclusive deals.
METAL ON METAL
PPV providers charge 50% of the events gross, UFC get the remaining 50%. They aren't making pennies.

They are better off putting Mouse on Fox shows or in co-main events. I know they can scale back the budget for PPV's that are not expected to draw well, but if they scale it back too much, the presentation can look half-hearted.  If you buy a UFC PPV, you expect it to be presented as being bigger than their free shows. I recall one PPV that Mouse headlined was played before a dingy crowd, and resembled a glorified Fight Night show. If the name value does not support a paying audience, you shouldn't put people in a position to pay for it.  It's looks like they have learnt there lesson, as they are putting T.J vs Cruz on Fox, and they had RDA vs Cerrone on FOX as well.
seanz25
Valid points, although what I meant to get at was would a DJ title fight on FP drive subs in for a month due to it being an important bout normally on PPV but for a much cheaper price? Would be interesting to see if it would have many if any watching. But then again I don't know the numbers for DJ's previous fights on free to and that's always an argument of if its on FP Just put it on TV. I guess though if you have more subscribers then potentially more watching the prelims, which in-turn you'd like to hope builds some stars for the future of the business earlier? Â BTW That's not me really saying this is what I believe would happen more a could this happen if so? Â I'm pretty certain though the stuff with Porier, Northcutt, Miller on FP exclusive cards is them seeing that the WWE Network's doing alright business wise and it has potential for future bigger business. Probably a test in the water. I guess as well for fans like myself who watch only the main cards, mostly due to wanting to watch the main/co-main because that where most my interest lies, a bigger fight to end the prelims might draw me into watching the whole thing. At least not to a significant extent.  The general audience can happily skip shows these days. If a fighter doesn't spark interest, fans won't go out of there way to see them, even if the price is low. For instance, I could have happily watched Andy Lee vs BJS for free last weekend if it was on ITV, but as it was behind a PayWall, I could happily skip it (I watched it by other means, but you see my point). While if it came down to it, I would have paid to see McGregor vs Aldo.  I get what you are saying, and it makes sense. Fight Pass probably is the future. But that future is quite a way off yet. Ross18
Poirier v Duffy is only on Fight Pass because the original fight was scheduled to be on Fight Pass too.  It's just to give the fans the fight they should of seen before.
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted December 24, 2015 Author Paid Members Share Posted December 24, 2015 Just voted in the poll. Went for Dillashaw on points and Pettis by KO/TKO. Â Bit surprised I was the first person to vote Dillashaw. It's 5-1 to Cruz currently. Thought it'd be pretty much neck-and-neck. It's such a hard fight to predict. In the end I went with Dillashaw just because he's been more active and I'm thinking he might be slightly sharper because of that. All we've seen of Cruz in the last four years is the one minute destruction of Mizugaki. And that in itself was over a year ago now. I hope Cruz wins, fucking hell I really hope he does, just got a feeling TJ is taking this one.
Paid Members lambyUK Posted December 24, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted December 24, 2015 I'm shocked at that Wand. I'm pretty sure Dillashaw will be favourite going into this fight and may prove too much for Cruz with the lay off. Â The one thing with Cruz though is that he's so fucking talented, with his level of intelligence, he may have added to his game. He's had so much time off he may be a completely different fighter. Â The last time he fought showed new elements to his game so it really is fascinating what fight we may get. Â I'm actually surprised its only on fox sports 1. Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted December 24, 2015 Author Paid Members Share Posted December 24, 2015 Yeah, I was sure this was a 'Big FOX' show until I looked it up to do the preview post. It's a great card for FS1. There have been Big FOX cards that were weaker than this.
the_mole
Fox doesn't need the UFC Fox Sports 1 does, there is only MLB Playoffs, NASCAR & some College Football that does better ratings than the UFC and only the UFC is on all year.

Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted December 26, 2015 Author Paid Members Share Posted December 26, 2015 Yeah I just meant that it's a stronger lineup than FS1 usually gets. Last time I remember an FS1 card this good was last January's Boston card with McGregor vs Siver and Bendo vs Cerrone 3. They always bring strong cards to Boston. the_mole
They obviously can't put on a bunch of massive fights on FS1 as they need guys to headline the PPVs and Fox shows. Â It's NFL post season and Fox will probably have a game on that day as it's a Sunday and they will more than likely promote it during the day hoping some of those viewers will check the fight out on Fox Sports 1 like they did last year. Â Last year did Fox Sports 1s biggest ever UFC ratings, obviously Conor's charisma helped but the massive NFL audience obviously were interested, I'm guessing they are trying to do it again.
