Tommy Atkins
I want to be able to play avi files off my external HD on my TV. What kind of media player do I need to do this? I previously used a DVD player with USB socket but the USB socket has packed up working.
Paid Members Lefty Posted August 31, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted August 31, 2011 I'd recommend using VLC Media player. It's what I use to play films off my HD and saves you downloading a load of Plug-ins for sound etc.

Paid Members chokeout Posted August 31, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted August 31, 2011 I've recently stolen my brothers media enclosure, its basically a case you can put a hard drive in (or plug a usb in the back) and it has a scart and HDMI out on it. It seems to play everything, including .MKV files and can take up to a 2 TB HD inside it and ive had a 500GB hooked up by USB as well. When I get home I'll find out what make it is but theres loads of them on ebuyer for less than
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted August 31, 2011 Moderators Share Posted August 31, 2011 I use my Xbox. Â Probably not the most economical solution if you don't play video games.
Paid Members Scott Malbranque Posted August 31, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted August 31, 2011 I use the cheap WD Media Player and plug me external into that. Remote control and everything. Seriously, best present I ever got next to a Commodore 64 and the Whale vehicle from GI Joe. Great stuff.
