I'm sure the government (who I don't support and didn't vote for) have thought of that.

That's why unemployment has risen since they came into government then.

Possibly something to do with it not being as easy as "create jobs". It's like telling someone who's depressed to "be happy". They've probably considered it.

Perhaps you should tell these people to "get a job".

I'm curious as to how you would create jobs actually and of course how these jobs would be paid for?

Where I work we tend to employ the people we need rather than create a position so we can give someone else a job.

Where have I said anyone who comes from a poor area turns out to be a criminal?

Jesus christ man.

You have spent this whole thread going on about the cause. How poor people with no opportunites etc etc. I've told you numerous times of first hand experience in London (i accept smaller cities are different) that there are opportunities in London and there are most definately jobs you have haven't acknowledged it once. The root causes of this, the poor areas, ghettos, whatever you may think is all fine and good but your ignore the millions of people who come out of those areas and would never ever do something like this and work hard in normal jobs to improve their lives.

Your argument about causes could be carried on to rapists, murderers anything but at the end of the day you will always have people who want for whatever reason to break the law and they need to be punished because people are losing everything.

Here we go, lets hear what Cameron has to say. The continuing criminalisation of protest (as the media begins to blur peaceful protest with thuggery) increased media fear mongering, i.d. cards, asbos, DNA databases, more ostracism, more racism, more fascism I'd guess...

Well it might not be easy, but you spend money instead of taking more away from the public and much needed services. I think they have considered it, but decided it would be a better idea to pay the budget deficit in the fastest way possible by taking money from the public pocket.

Also, how can I tell them to get a job when there are none or they don't have the qualifications/experience to get one. There's something like 20 people applying for every one job in Haringey.

Nothing in Cameron's statement that hasn't been said by the Home secretary or the Met DAC this morning.

Toothless. Very real chance he could go over this. He seems to have no idea how to get control back.

A reasonable post from someone from Yahoo message board.

I was in the Police in Peckham for a number of years in the seventies and, even then, the 'writing was on the wall'. Black youth simply does not trust the establishment.

When this coalition Government took power and announced their drastic cutbacks I told friends and colleagues that this would be the result. I am only surprised that it happened sooner than I thought it would. I am only thankful that the guns have not come out - yet!

Theresa May says that she intends to bring these people to account. Just how does she intend to do this? There are thousands - if not tens of thousands involved tonight all over London. The people involved obviously think the same way as I do.

I think that there has been a great deal of naivety shown by this government in attempting to implement this 'Back to 'Work' "initiative", especially where the people that are going to be hit hardest live in the depressed inner city areas where there are no jobs available and where a large number of people have got so used to living on benefits that they can see no future without them.

No, you cannot condone what is happening but as I said in my first paragraph the writing has been on the wall for an awfully long time. And it is far from over.

Don't blame the Police - you can see how over-stretched they are already, having to call in reinforcements from the Home Counties. This was unheard of in my day - 'We' went to them!! Successive Government are entirely to blame - if some of them had gone to a comprehensive school in Inner London - rather than Eton - then, perhaps, they would have a far clearer view of the problems facing our society and our inner cities - and would probably govern us better as a result.

However, they will walk away from this when it is all over, untouched and financially secure as usual.

This is a former Police Officer saying this and similar to what politician Ken Livingstone said.

You can't keep spending money you don't have. Even Labour would have made cuts.

We're only one year into this. We haven't felt the full force of the cuts yet. Things are only going to get worse. So a hard line has to be taken.

Yes but you can control how quickly you cut, and more crucially, where you get the money from. Why do we still have banks making billion pound profits?
