Yeah I agree, that could be a terrible decision to drop Kevin, he needs the time in the middle. Form is temporary, class is permanent. It's not like there's an outstanding candidate to take his place.

I think in this case his form isn't temporary - he's been playing largely crap for a couple of years now, and in my opinion he will never return to the heights of 2005/2006.

If the idea is for him to play the remaining county games then I think it's a great idea. How he played in the World Cup shows he doesn't need to be in great form to do what he does in that, but it's vital for him to get test match style form and spend time in the middle, he won't do this in a T20 already showered in controversy. He can go away, try to get in form ready for the Ashes and the World Cup next year should take care of itself. Personally I can't see why he'd call it a "Fuck up", If i were in his current situation/form and they said play 2 t20's and 5 ODIs against Pakistan or play county games to prepare for the Ashes i wouldn't hesistate on choosing the latter, I know they like playing international cricket etc but he won't be at all if his form doesn't pick up

Is it a great idea? The standard of cricket in division two isn't exactly the highest, and if he did want to go and play county cricket, he'd have been better off playing against better opposition in the top tier rather than chasing the big money at Surrey to knock 50's against the might of Leicestershire and Derbyshire and whack a few in the Pro 40.

But Pietersen's problem isn't technical, it's his confidence so I don't see that it matters who the opposition is, it's just about getting the time wherever it may be. Okay his confidence wont exactly be helped by being left out but surely him getting confidence back by bullying division 2 and time in the middle in similar situations to a test match is better than a quick swipe in a T20.

Interestingly, Mark Butcher has just mentioned on Sky about KP's IPL team, RC Bangalore being in the Champions League which starts next week. I guess him not playing could be linked to that-the ECB wouldn't have let him go to play in the latter stages of the CL if RCB get there so he's told them he doesn't want to play.

And as he doesn't want to play the ODI's, they've chopped him from the T20 team as well? His twitter only mentioned them not picking him for that team, so perhaps he had no intention of playing the 50 over matches?

There's almost as much cricket news today as football news.

* Owais Shah is leaving Middlesex, who in turn have signed Aussie Chris Rogers and signed Eoin Morgan to a new 2 year contract.

* Pietersen is off to Surrey on loan but will probably sign a full contract at the end of the season.

* The full T20 and ODI squads for England are as follows:-

Twenty20 squad - Paul Collingwood (capt), James Anderson,Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad, Steven Davies, Caig Kieswetter, Eoin Morgan, Ryan Sidebottom, Graeme Swann, Luke Wright, Michael Yardy.

One-day squad - Andrew Strauss (capt), James Anderson, Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad, Paul Collingwood, Steven Davies, Eoin Morgan, Ajmal Shahzad, Ryan Sidebottom, Graeme Swann, Jonathan Trott, Luke Wright, Michael Yardy.

STILL no Adil Rashid, Michael Lumb has been dumped already, and Kieswetter has been dropped from the ODIs. I really don't know Rashid has to do to get called up.

* More arrests have been made as regard the spot-fixing thing, and Pakistan have said that Kamran Akmal, Salman Butt, and Mohammads Asif and Amir will not be picked for the rest of the tour.

Lumb's injured so that's why he's out the squad, though if Bopara or Davies do anything he could end up missing out in the future as well as I he never really made a big score to cement his place despite some decent starts during the world cup.

As for Rashid, he's better off staying at Yorkshire where he gets lots of bowling - with day night matches suiting swing bowling so much over here you'll never really play two proper spinners and Yardy bowling his darts and Collingwood/Wright swinging the white ball about has suited England quite well recently.

Loads of points to make on that:

Firstly, Shah is a troublemaker so it's no surprise he's gone from Middlesex

I've never been too keen on KP since he shunned me for a photo and autograph at Edgbaston during the 2005 Ashes. Both mornings I passed him he gace me the 'I'm on the phone' excuse. Twat. The rest of the team were great and I got my photo with the rest of the team and the programme signed by the entire team except him. I was 15 at the time, so it was just about socially acceptable to ask sportsfolk for an autograph at that age.

But he's acted utterly classless throughout this season. The stuff with him refusing to play for Hampshire because he was too lazy to travel down there and now this doesn't endear himself to anybody. Plus he's been shit and will fit right in at Surrey.

As for the squads, Lumb is injured but didn't even make Hampshire's T20 team when he was fit being so out of form. Kieswetter was found out at international level against the Aussies and will work as a slogger in T20 but nothing more until he vastly improves, so no surprises there. Rashid needs the season at Yorkshire, he is better off playing than doing a 'Tredwell' and carrying the drinks for 2 weeks. He'll probably go to Aus as the second spinner, unless they pick Monty with his experience. Can't see Tredwell going to Aus, unless they need a really good drinks carrier.

Surprised Prior didn't get a go in the ODI's, he's been great this summer and deserves a spot. But it will be good to see how Davies goes, I imagine he'll open with Strauss, and Trott come in at 3. Looks like he will open with Kieswetter in the T20, and one of Wright, Bopara or Bresnan won't play. Hopefully Wright, he's gash. Overall, the teams are OK, I just would have had Prior in the ODI's ahead of Davies.

And for the final point, Pakistan were as one-dimensional as the Windies during the tests, so taking Amir and Asif out makes them none-dimensional. England should walk the series 5-0.

Yeah, he kept at it but I don't really suppose it was worth the effort any more. I was wondering if he might not just play as a specialist batsman though, I wonder if he even considered that possibility?

An absolutely amazing finish to the county championship season today if anyone is watching. It's been hard work keeping track of it all week with the bad weather, but it's enthralling stuff.

Nottinghamshire have about 16 or 17 overs to take three wickets (and thus a bonus point) to win it. If not, Somerset take it-who can confirm the title with an exceedingly unlikely run chase.

Did Notts get to 400 then?

What an amazing ending this could be.

Yes, Pattinson and Sidebottom were the last men in and scraped them to 400-but it took them a while so they lost overs. Somerset and Durham have drawn, so Notts just need 3 wickets and the guaranteed draw to win the title on countback (more wins).

They've just got the first wicket, so another two needed in the next 55 minutes. The only worry is the sunlight is very low and could cause them to come off-it did the other night.

I think they've got the 3 wickets!

What a sensational ending to the season, they've snatched it right at the end.

Indeed, it didn't look likely at the start of the day with Notts doomed to draw, and somerset headed for victory at Durham. Fair play to them, a great end to one of the best seasons of Championship cricket recently.
