  1. , if it had 40% more action and 40% less Mexican stuff

That was my problem with it. I just didn't want to say it in case I offended any gringos...

I think it was enough of a push for Mexicans to have the hero of the movie be an old hideous Mexican who's really tough and beloved by all women, it should've been him in all out action, the whole Mexican revolutionary theme bored me plus (extremely mild spoiler ahead) SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read

there was a scene where Machete stuck a gattling gun to the front of a motorbike and only used it for about 10 seconds! What the fuck? If my hero stuck a badass gun on a badass chopper he'd be shooting people with it for 20 minutes!

  2. Running Scared - [/b] Love this movie. Just love it. And I was a major detractor of Paul Walkers until this point. Boy can act...ain't no bout a doubt it.

I love this one too, I'm a right homo for Paul Walker, always have been but the movie is so awesome.

I recommend it to people all the time because it's great and there's a good chance they won't even have heard of it.

  3. Jackass 3D

About ten of us went to see this, and it made it so much better. I get a bit self conscious about guffawing out loud in the cinema, but everyone was for this (apart from some animal rights folks who walked out during that little prank on Bam), and it was a much better experience for it.

Anyway, I laughed my face off from start to finish. It was great. Some lovely use of slow motion and 3D as well. So many fun parts, but I think "Electric avenue" slayed me the most.

I don't think the film being in 3-D made any difference except for the beginning and end sequences which looked great, the film was funny though. Didn't do anything new but if you like Jackass it's the usual good stuff. Bam really doesn't seem like he wants to do it anymore which is funny, Johnny Knoxville looks really old and skinny, like he's got AIDS or something, it was really weird, the others haven't changed at all. I went with a girl and she nearly puked in the preston exercise scene which was funny.

    Macgruber

Total Crap, i wouldnt recommend it at all

    1/10.

I thought Macgruber was hilarious! I was laughing all the way through, I loved it. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

  4. Yeah, I will give anything with Mike Judge's name attached a punt; he's definitely earned it with the amount of quality he's produced.

Jackass 3-D begins with an introduction from Beavis and Butthead, I bust a nut.

    (also I <3 Mila Kunis)

Have you seen Date Night? she cameos in it with James Franco and they're both amazing.

  5. I watched Unstoppable this evening.

It was a preview screening that was free and the film's not out for a week or so so it already made it a bit special which enhanced the experience for me.

I wouldn't have gone to the cinema to see this if it wasn't free, I probably would've rented it though.

Anyway, the film is about Denzel Washington and Chris Pine trying to stop a runaway train, it has a really slow start, painfully slow, nothing much happens for the first 45 minutes or so really but when the train goes out of control the movie picks up and gets fairly exciting until the end.

It's not bad, I'm not sure how long it was but it felt like it could've been 15 minutes shorter or had 15 minutes more action because it dragged a little but the whole movie was about 1 runaway train so I guess they did pretty well to make it as exciting as it was.

Typical Tony Scott stuff, lots of fast cutaways, helicopters, buildup and of course Denzel.

I'd've been a bit indifferent about it if I'd spent

  6. Seeing as we're on a knowledge exchange, im planning on seeing Municipal Waste in December in Jazzgow, any recommendations on thrash that aint- Gama Bomb, Bonded by Blood or Evile?

If you like those bands you'll like Fueled by Fire, modern latino thrash from LA I believe, really old school, really good, very similar to Bonded by Blood. Let me know what you think.

  7. my death metal education continues... i know the basics of the genre, but there's so much stuff i haven't heard. Trying to discover some new shit, and got on the case of this after checking out what bands Chris Barnes has been involved with:

    TorKillSwarmCover2.JPG

this was the only Torture Killer album that Barnes was vocalist for, and it's fucking fantastic. It's basic stripped down Death Metal, not overly technical and just crushingly awesome. The riffs on this album made me shit my pants.

Any death metal fans here? recommend me some more shit!!

I like catchy death metal too so I'm downloading this, if I love it I'll build you a cake.

Do you know Cannabis Corpse? they are extremely awesome.

  8. Anyone seen Let Me In?

I've not seen the remake, but I found the original very underwhelming after all the praise I'd seen it get.

Same here, what was all the fuss about and why was I tricked into watching a movie about children?

    Last night I watched Martyrs

Which I was told by my lass is the most extreme horror film she'd ever seen and she had to turn it off twice before finishing it.

I was expecting torture porn but was pleasantly surprised that it's pretty clever and totally gripping. There are some pretty rough moments though, I'd be interested to hear if anyone on here's seen it. I don't want to give too much of the plot away because I knew nothing of it going in and it was better for it but it's about a girl who gets extremely badly abused and eventually escapes and why that happened.

    It's in French BTW.

  9. I watched From Paris with love last night.

Wasn't expecting too much as I knew it was a French production and I'm not really into French style action films (Transporter, Leon etc). Also the main star is John Travolta and he's really hit and miss for me, loved him in Pulp Fiction and especially Face/Off (not easy keeping up with Nicolas Cage). I thought it was really good though, the plot was fast and simple which is how I like my action films Johnathan Rhys Myers was fine in his role but Travolta was awesome, the character was well written but he played it to perfection, he was a proper tough psycho and he really pulled it off, I loved him in it and I'd gladly watch him play that character again.

  10. I watched UP

This, I absolutely loved it. Brilliant film and actually quite moving. The character I found even close to being annoying was the chubby kid, but even that didn't annoy me much. I can only think PSL's mates had ridiculously overhyped it before he watched it and thus this may have affected his opinion on the film slightly.

I heard it was really good from reviews etc, the main thing being that it was genuinely moving and was just as good for kids and adults alike but I have no idea how a kid could enjoy it or how an adult could take it seriously, wouldv'e made a nice 10 minute short but as a feature it sucked, the pace was awful it wasn't fun and the villain made no sense.

Watched it again last week having seen it at the cinema. I thought it was even better the second time. The characters weren't horrible at all. it wasn't massively moving but had a few touching moments. The story is preposterous but wonderful at the same time.

Which character isn't horrible? The old man, the annoying boy? The Really annoying bird? The Villain who seems there for the sake of having a villain and makes the movie far worse by having it play more like an ordinary adventure film? I have no idea how you could sit through that movie twice.

Like I said, it would've made a fine short, Old man SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read

is widowed, fulfills wife's dream of going to that waterfall with balloons attached to house, the end. No kid, no annoying bird, pointless enemy. The part that annoyed me most was they really didn't make a big deal when the house actually got to the right place, by then the story had become about that stupid kid and bird

. I saw Toy Story 3 and I thought it was genuinely moving and the story, humour and action was a of an extremely high standard and I loved it so I am capable of enjoying these types of films but UP left me totally cold.

    I watched UP

I thought it was shit, I've heard so many people say it was amazing and moving but it wasn't either.

Whats it like being dead inside?

    ;(

I wish dude, I'm perfectly able to enjoy warmth and touching stuff in films, UP just beyond didn't give me what I expected.

Fuck you JLM, I claimed gay, buried Ryan Reynolds love first!

Did you coin the term "Rysexual" to describe the "all straight guys would totally do Ryan Reynolds" phenomenon though? DID YOU?

We can share Licker, we can share.

It can also apply to Josh Hartnett and, despite his best efforts to ruin it since American Psycho, Christian Bale.

"Rysexual"! Awesome, funny you mentioned Christian Bale, my brother said to me once "I don't think it counts as being gay if a man fancies Christian Bale"... My brother is also the straightest man I've ever met.

  11. I watched UP

I thought it was shit, I've heard so many people say it was amazing and moving but it wasn't either.

all the "sad" bits were heavy handed and didn't make sense, all the characters were horrible, it was boring and annoying at the same time.

I have no idea what all the fuss is about, I can't imagine any kids enjoying it either, extremely disappointed.

Fuck you JLM, I claimed gay, buried Ryan Reynolds love first!

  12. Just got back from seeing BURIED at the cinema.

Went with a lovely lady which made the experience more enjoyable although I think I may have enjoyed it more than her, not sure what to think about the film really... Moderate spoilers ahead. SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read

the whole film is Ryan Reynolds in a coffin buried underground... The WHOLE FILM! There's not a single other character shown for the whole film! I thought this was pretty brave film making because it's hard to do something new in a movie and I've never seen a film with only 1 character in it before. It made the film a little boring in parts but ultimately I think it was better for the film to be unique and slightly boring than have a bit more going on but be more similar to everything else. Plus it was Ryan Fucking Reynolds, if there's any man I'd watch alone on screen for 90 minutes it's Ryan Reynolds

    Anyone else seen it?

  13. Predators I enjoyed. It had guns and it had 18 certificate Predators. Can't ask for more. I know there were a few plot holes and and a couple of 'what the fuck was that about' moments but it's certainly better than either of the AVP movies. The premise of the movie got me thinking, how awesome would Riddick Vs Predator be?

I couldn't stop looking at Adrain Brody's nose, they were obviously moving away from having an obvious action hero type as the hero but Brody just didn't work for me at all, would've preferred Jim Caviesel or Viggo Mortensen.

Walton Goggins was awesome though, I'm a huge fan of the shield and it was great to see him getting a big screen role.

  14. Watched MacGruber last night.

I thought it was absolutely hilarious (so did my brother) It's basically a Macgyver parody done by the Saturday Night Live team, I watched all the original sketches from SNL first (each one is only 30 seconds long) to give me a feel for the character and I'm really glad I did because I felt more 'in on the joke' it still would've been hilarious without it though. You may remember him guest hosting RAW in character as MacGruber, he accidentally blew up R-Truth.

First 10-15 minutes was a bit slow but when it picked up pace I was pissing myself til the end. MacGruber is truly a character without a single redeeming feature and that's part of what makes it so funny, Ryan Phillipe is a great straight man in it and Kristen Wiig is funny in it too (and I'm starting to think she's quite cute despite being pretty funny looking).

  15. Just watched Whip It.

I was expecting a lot because I love Drew Barrymore, Ellen Page and Juliette Lewis (3 of my top 10 famous chicks) and I also dig Kristen Wiig. As it's directed by Drew Barrymore I expected it to be really fun and wacky, but it played too much like a straight indie dramedy for my liking, I thought it was a bit dull and didn't have the spark and spunk I expected... Until about 35 minutes from the end SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read

and then it totally redeemed itself, I hate convenient romances in films like this and I thought not making Bliss' love story work out was really brave, unexpected and original and it still made her look like the one that came out on top. Then Even better the movie didn't go the typical Hollywood route of having the team win the title which I absolutely loved, it was so much better and more realistic to have them lose but show that they all had fun anyway and that was the main thing that mattered. I would've liked the film to be a bit more colourful, fun and unusual but but it was totally redeemed by making those two great decisions at the end.
