  1. Introducing a new belt, only to then merge it immediately into a triple crown belt seems like cheating to me.

And will Tony Kahn have a Continental Title Belt made, which he then IMMEDIATELY switches for a Triple Crown Belt?

Finally Im actually slightly miffed by them announcing Danielson first, it just gives me that "he's making it into the final guys".

Im just praying we get a good field of competitors and not just 2 potential winners and a bunch of schlubs.

Super awkward final few minutes to the brawl though. Charlotte and Io just starting at each other for a solid minute or so, before presumably someone shouted they were still on the air, at which point everyone suddenly jumped up and started fighting again to fill time.

Oh it's worse than that. That was a contrived "this is your future WrestleMania match, start cheering" spot.

When I said a ‘named tournament’ I perhaps should have worded it differently- what I mean is a tournament for a tournament’s sake (eg. The Owen) - but you’ve highlighted what a crutch tournaments are for Tony Khan. I hate them, personally. In AEW, the winners are often made clear during storylines beforehand. Ultimately, I’m not sure there’s much value in a tournament for the sake of a tournament; but if you’re going to do something like that, don’t have more than one each year.

Apart from the Owen Hart ones, which for me never had a obvious winner, what other 'tournaments for tournament sake' have there been? All I can think of is the women tag tournament they had on YouTube.

The speculation is it’s based on a 1950’s film called All About Eve which plays more into Toni Storms current gimmick.

I've didn't know about this film, but after reading about it on wiki I love the concept, even if it sounds tricky to pull off.

But hey it means direction and long term story telling so double thumbs up for me.

Been reading that The Bunny has left AEW to join OF. Wonder if it'll be the catalyst for the likes of Butcher and Blade to leave too? Hope not as I quite like them and feel they need a decent run again.

I'm not sure how keen I'll be be for a Butcher and Blade OnlyFans.

Surely that wouldn’t merit the ‘important announcement’ treatment?

I’m going to do some wishful thinking and guess that he’s winding down ROH, with Final Battle 2023 being the last ROH show. Hopefully he’s begun to accept that he’s spreading himself far too thinly.

    Everything is a important announcement

He needs to temper expectations with "Tony Kahn has a announcement of moderate importance", "Tony Kahn has a announcement that's so-so" or "Tony Kahn has an announcement about the next PPV main event. Don't get too excited. And no it's not Punk."

Then we might believe when he says "IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT".

  7. Hoping its the tournament. With Joe, Strong, Omega, Wardlow all circling the champ, it would be nice to see AEW do a proper all star tournament (you know, as oppose to two possible winners and the rest being members of the Dark Order).

Fandango had a solid mid card push, but his crowd reactions were LA Knight levels, but he was never pushed out of it. I think the difference between them is who is in charge. HHH certainly seems to be listening to the audience more than Vince ever did.

Timing of an injury fucked old Fandango. Alledgedly he was due to win the IC championship in a Triple Threat, but was pulled due to injury, and Curtis Axel got the championship instead.

TK has paid Darby off to never turn on Sting?

Part of me is horrified to think he's just going to give him a blowie in the middle of the ring.

Serious suggestion though; he's gone and bought him a classic championship belt he used to hold or something.

Suppose Al was part of WWE when they were arguably at their peak (ie. ‘98 to ‘01) but as he was just a mid-card act, proclaiming himself to be a draw is stretching things.

Did he in anyway shape or form draw for ecw?

They are changing the name to TNA. Personally I think Impact is better. TNA sounds like a name a 13 year old came up with in 1999.

The announcement is bizarre. It dosent actually mean anything... IMPACT is pretty much the exact same as TNA in concepts and presentations (excusing natural modernisation over time).

Like.. what is it going to do except for just, you know, a change in colour scheme and using a different set of belts.

  12. Thing is, when WWE brought NXT to Aus previously, they had initial poor ticket sales and starting giving every "free upgrades" to the next set of tickets up.

So let's not pretend that BOGOF or other ticket promotions is some random out of blue tactic by AEW. It's as old as the spirt itself.

I don't mind silly and if people enjoy it then that's cool, just something about these Strong and tbh even the recent Storm segments, that isn't working for me.

It all feels forced, to me.

I think it works for Americans due to the novelty of a British / New Zealander says "tits" on TV.

I'm liking the in ring work though. Great to have a female wrestler with a actual gimmick.

I had an idea for a triple threat match, but you have to pin both your opponents to win, conversely if you manage to get pinned by both your opponents before the finish you get eliminated, and it reverts to being a singles match. It's possible to have the match end with all three still in the ring, but then there could be the opportunism of trying to get save somebody from being eliminated to maintain pressure on a champion, or two heels trying to work together to eliminate a babyface from the match, only for it to fall apart.

The memory is coming back to me. I actually competed in a match similar to this. 2 Falls Triple Threat, to win you have to hold a fall over both of your opponents. No elimination, all three people stay in it until someone gets the two falls.

I reckon with more competent and talented trio on a tv show it COULD work, but at a working men's club in Loughborough it was a terrible idea. Don't do it. Ever.

  15. I came up with a couple of terrible ones during my efedding days.

    The Hell House Match:
Imagine a Hell In a Cell but it's a giant Perspex box. The inside of the box is basically a giant sauna that gets hotter as the match goes on. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE... the outside of the ring is submerged in ice cold water. The idea is that your fighting in a sauna, and if you fall into the water around the edge, there's a chance you may suffer shock from the temperature change.

    Basketball Challenge:
It's a standard match, but whilst you are wrestling two men (who have been chosen by each competitor in the match) are playing 1 on 1 basketball outside the ring. You cannot attempt to go for a cover or submission whilst the basketball match is tied, but once your chosen player is up on points, you can win the match.

    Iron Will Match:
Basically it's a one hour match, but you can only go for the finish after an hour of wrestling.

IWhile that's certainly true, there are varying levels of dickheadedness. To paint both sides as bad as each other isn't really on, I don't think.

Never said that. The minute Punk assaulted someone he was way worse.

But as someone who has worked in toxic work environments where people in authority have the power to turn multiple people against you in a us vs you world, it can really mess you up psychologically.

    Again... all dicks.
