I was honestly in tears by the end of this.

EDIT: Also, my post was from a week ago. You must be pretty bored to comment on week-old posts.
Maybe he'd only just seen it? I wasn't aware that there was a forum time limit on such matters.

Brian Sutherland - Best boxer in the world?
The commentary team were sublime!

I just saw Star Trek again, loved it just as much second time, my film of the year so far for sure. No doubt you'll see people starting to bash it soon to be cool and go against the grain of the majority because people like it.
Or they'll bash it because they simply didn't like it.

Coraline
Since moving to Manchester, I hadn't been to the Cinema and Mrs Houchen had wanted to see Coraline, what with her being a fan of animation so a tram ride from Stretford to G mex later, we were at the pics. The AMC seems to be a multiplex that I could get on with, many screens and unbelievably, LEG ROOM! Luckily screen 13 was quite empty as well, Coraline is billed as a kids film so there were a few kids there too, never mind, the comfy seats and leg room will make up for that.
Â
Coraline isn't really a kids film, more a kids horror film, the opening title sequence where a doll gets pulled apart set the tone nicely. Given that it's directed by Henry Selick (The guy who really made Nightmare Before Christmas) I was expecting a visual feast and sure as shit, that's what you get. The voice casting is spot on, the animation of Coraline coupled with Dakota Fannings voice made for a heroine who I really rooted for, before the film started they were playing songs from films over the PA and one from Labyrinth came on, Mrs Houchen said how much she loved that film as a child and really wanted to be the girl in it, (I instantly thought of the ass to ass scene from Requiem For A Dream) I can imagine that 8 year old watching Coraline would want the same thing (not the ass to ass scene, obviously). Speaking of RFAD, it was strange to hear the cat in Coraline being voiced by Big Tim from RFAD, (There's that ass to ass scene again).
Â
There were some genuine scary moments and there were a few crying children during the film which brought a smile to my jaded, cynical face, overall I thought it was a wonderful film with some truly amazing visuals (The mouse circus and the gardens in the 'other world'), not as good as the ass to ass scene though but yeah, great film.

There were a few bells at my last job, a few warehouse staff had the typical tabloid reactioary opinions on the foreign staff apart from the fit girls who brightened up the place etc. The smokers could be dicks as well when it was pissing down and they had to stand in the smoking shelter, some even gave it the "Prisoners have more human rights than smokers" bollocks but generally I worked with good people there.

Maybe I missed the point. But what niggled me was this.
Â
Why the writing at the begining and eld of the film about his wife? It was pointless and added nothing extra to the film.
To me, it showed that he'd tried to leave his old life behind and his wife was the constant that stopped him being the killer he was, such as he'd given up drink, however with her not around to steady his ship, he returned to what he was but was sorry to her for what he did
Â
The news coming from the whore was that she had been cut up, eyes poked out and tits cut off. Yet when they met her they didn't question any of the parts that were untruthfull. They were after the money, will was a struggling farmer and saw the kids offer as a fix to his problems, he needed his old mate to help though...
Â
Why did Ned lose his bottle? To quote someone in The Wire (I'll avoid spoilers by not naming them), they were out of the game for so long, they just weren't part of it anymore
Â
Why didn't they just call Gene Hackmans Character Lex Luther, cus that's essentially who he was playing but with a slightly nastier side.Little Bill showed signs of being the only 'Good guy' in the whole film, he was a man who didn't want to run the world, just his part of it.
Â
Sorry for shitting on a favourite of yours, I just found it a bit... well, shit. That is fair enough, no one can dispute that but it does seem that the film wasn't for you.
Â
EDIT - Fuck, LaGoosh made the points, I was happy to sing from the same sheet.

Well played, Loki.

Watched Unforgiven last night. It's a bit wishy washy really. Quite forgettable and I'll probably never watch it again. Eastwood was his usual self, and a young Morgan Freeman with a buff body was quite odd to see. A bit meh overall.
Â
I hate you. Unforgiven is one of the greatest films ever made. And if you think Eastwood was his normal self you pretty much missed the point of the entire film.
Â
This. The scene where he grabs the whisky bottle after SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read
hearing Ned has been killed
and stops pretending to be who is isn't is fucking stunning. (I don't really hate you, Steve)
-
Yeah he is a mong but at least he's heard of the edit button and doesn't double/triple/quadruple post.
-
I don't mean to pick on Seven, cause he'll come on and try to rip me apart with one of clever, articulate replies (every notice how every one of his replies is edited, i swear he takes a good hour writing one), but that muthafucker hates everything. He needs a new hobby, he's making himself miserable, poor guy.
I could have sworn he did a thread that required a lot of effort where he named and posted his favourite 50 songs of last year.

The Pong bit is brilliant.

I honestly don't know what the worst thing is on the previous page. Someone saying Marley And Me cannot be faulted, the phrase "true JJ Abrahms magic" or the fact that people are discussing CLOVERFIELD like it's an arthouse flick.
It's funny because it's true.
-
Watched Cloverfield last night for the 2nd time. I must say I still think it's fine as a pure action movie that requires you not to think so much, but there's not really enough substance to it to make the movie compelling for a 3rd or 4th view. I even bothered to look up a few bits on the net about the movie and some of the backstory (and the Manga thing) kinda ruin a lot of it so don't bother with that.
Â
I think the monster is built really well before being revealled and then a little dissapointing. It's actions certainly fit the 'stroppy child' image that has been built up for it (so when's mom coming then?) since the movie came out. I hate the cameraman. I really do, most of his one liners are shite and he overacts too much, don't mind the rest of the cast though I think they do a decent job.
Â
Great popcorn movie, but don't watch if you're in the mood for something deep.
I thought Cloverfield was a bit rubbish but it was one letter away from being amazing

It's between Wales, Ireland and France, and there is going to be some fucking great rugby, especially people putting their hands up for the Lions tour.
Was on about this with a mate yesterday, can you see any England players making the Lions team?

Mab should definitely take the punishment he's been given with good grace, as he's been voted thus.
Â
But I do think a lot of people did just vote for him because of his previous track record prior to 2008. crazyshady and pro ev have been consistently much worse over the past year or so.
I think the Mab Hate thread sealed it for him this year. He tries to be a cheerleader for himself, and it spectacularly exploded in his face.
Â
Â
Not to mention his breakdown over his sig being removed, his breakdown when his sig was given back, his breakdown when spurned by KookooMATchoo and his asinine questions in threads that could easily be googled and his breakdown when this was pointed out to him.
Â
I would have voted for pro ev had this been based on recent events and not the whole year.
-
Trying too hard to not look bothered by being nominated. Personally, I find you quite funny at times and in fairness you are probably just getting into the spirit but it does come across (to me at least) like you are forcing the point that you aren't bothered to the extent that it gives the impression that you are.
-
As usual, you're trying too hard.
-
I'm up for three awards this year as opposed to none last year. I won't win any like:(
Â
Â
The three you are up for are not ones you would want to be nominated for though are they.
Â
I don't particularly mind, its not like i'm running away with the votes. In some cases perfectly ok posters are beating me so i'm not taking my entry into them that seriously.
Then why bleat on about it all the time?
-
Mr Seven for me. So many good uns though.
Â
Â
Me.Â
Yup, and it's fucking disgusting that tired desperate hack Just Me is currently winning this.
Â
Â
Don't worry, Joe, we're always on the lookout for a Lucky Pierre.
-
Mab, if only for the reason that he is completely oblivious as to why he is so shit. pro ev was a contender but he knows that he is a bell end where as Mab thinks he is a decent guy. The other reason for voting Mab is after last years fiasco, he said how he didn't care what the members thought of him but then tried to change his posting style to suit others and even said that's what he was doing.
Â
At least he used to be his own mong but now he is the forum bitch. He has improved and sees that as some form of penance but he's gone from being terribly annoying to boring and repulsive. The fact that he sees this as improvement is reason alone to vote for him.

Mr Seven for me. So many good uns though.

Christ it was terrible, Dan Ackroyd was shocking bad. Also Judge Smails is the best character in Caddyshack.
