  1. The piledriver spot was actually not anywhwere close to a couple of spots they did in the match. That ladder bridge, for instance, seen Generico fall from it almost onto his head. The match wasn't that good. I can take contrived stuff in a ladder match, but they took too long at times here, and it just sapped away my excitement. They had a MUCH better ladder match in PWG.

  2. Pissing about on twitter and I typed in "UKFF" into the search engine. Some dip shits on there. Didn't realise so many BritWres folk still cry about this forum. I thought all that went out of fashion in 2004.

A bloke called Matt Walters as well. Chris Recall might be a wrestler. The name sounds a bit familiar. Iceman seems to have taken a particular obsession to it though.

  6. Sounds like a great show. I reviewed Diaz vs Hurley in my Diaz career review, he had a brutal angle on that kimura. He tapped Josh Neer with the same technique in the UFC.

The thing I liked the most about it was that Hurley seemed to completely not realise that Diaz can tap you out fairly quickly. Diaz had him so worried about the rights and lefts coming flying that he practically gifted him that Kimura. Diaz was brilliant in the fight.

  7. WEC 6: Return of a Legend

This show marks the return of Frank Shamrock. Hence the title of the show.

    Erik Husbands vs. Poppies Martinez

Fuck me sideways. THAT is a knockout mofos! Husbands walks right into a big combo from Martinez, and then Martinez lands an absolutely vicious and hellaciously quick combo of rights and lefts and Husbands hits the canvas like a ton of bricks. That is a QUICK KO. That combo doesn't get any older with replays. Superb stuff there.

    Jack Cardenas vs. Chris Sanford

Middleweight tussle on the way! Sanford is wearing a top here. You don't see that often! This doesn't last long, but fuck me, this is a terrific war. Sanford is in BIG trouble early from the Cardenas combo but then Sanford recovers out of nowhere, and what follows that is both men reversing the position and both guys having chances to win the fight, but it winds up being Sanford getting an Armbar after some brutal ground and pound. The MC lets us know how impressive this was as well, and rightly so. Short but incredibly sweet.

    Ed Wedding vs. Doug Evans

This is a fun round of action. Doug Evans actually looks very good here and looks dominant, almost taking down Wedding at will. But he couldn't take advantage of it, and that got punished. Wedding manages to escape the bottom position and spins into an Armbar and forces Evans to tap out. Evans did have a lot of control, but it really enough, and that allowed Wedding the chance to take the fight. Fun stuff. Incidentally, that finish came 20 seconds before the end of the first round.

    Bret Bergmark vs. Brodie Farber

Bret Bergmark looks just a wee bit like Kid Fite. I'm not sure how impressive Farber looked in the first round. I do know that Bergmark looked absolutely rotten. He started with some horrendously slow leg kicks and Farber just flung a right hand and down went Bergmark. And then Farber found it easy as you'd like to find a better position down there. Guillotine choke, and then to the mount, and he never looked in danger from there. He eventually just laid into Bergmark, but you got the impression Bergmark couldn't have stopped him doing this earlier.

    Mike Swick vs. Kengo Ura

I've seen more exciting fights. Kengo Ura looked decent enough, but he kept finding himself in good positions, and all of a sudden would find himself in a lot of bother. Mike Swick is obviously very dangerous, but Ura did his part as well, as there was a couple of occaisions where it could have been avoided. Mike Swick landed a couple of big knees in the fight before that third big one that basically ended the fight for him as well. Basically, Kengo Ura was asking for trouble from the word go and wound up walking right into it.

Bill Goldberg is here to talk MMA, and then Tito Ortiz is in the cage to talk about the fight coming with Chuck Liddell.

    Gilbert Melendez vs. Jeff Houghland

OOFT!!! Melendez! This is a pleasant surprise right here. Melendez is sporting some horrendous flowery shorts here. Gilbert Melendez looked good here. He completely controlled round one. He couldn't do much damage as Houghland did a decent job of limiting what Melendez could do. In the second round, it seemed like Houghland was getting some joy with the takedown and some control, but out of nowhere, Melendez gets the mount, unloads with ground and pound, and then takes the back and does more of the same and the referee steps in. You can see why Melendez would go on and have a good career.

    Joe Hurley vs. Nick Diaz

Hurley has an absolutely ridiculous hairdo. He has horns. HORNS!!! Ugh. Hurley could only really keep Diaz at bay, but not for long. Diaz came out of the traps big time, and then got the tapout in short order, breaking the arm of Hurley in the process. Nice sportsmanship at the end when as soon as it's done, he makes sure Hurley is alright. Is this Nick Diaz I'm watching? Anyways, great showing from Nick Diaz.

    Levi Thornbrue vs. Brian Stromberg

Time for a heavyweight clash now. Stromberg had Thornbrue in trouble right from the word go, landing a couple of combos flush. After that it was the takedown, and after some work to improve position, he got the half guard and then forced Thornbrue to tap after strikes. The theme for this show appears to be impressive performances from one of the guys in each fight.

    Jeremy Jackson vs. Shonie Carter

In the first round, Jackson seemed very apprehensive. He had Carter in a lot of bother when he had him in all sorts of bother, but later in the fight we find out why, as when he gets put into bother then, he just throws them big Spinning Backfists around willy nilly and Jackson just stands away from him and lets him throw them. Carter is a bit dangerous at times. Jackson is the better man on the feet, which is where the majority of the fight is spent, and he rocks Carter a good few times. Whenever Carter comes into the fight big, Jackson seems to show him that HE'S the boss on the feet. Carter got a few takedowns in the second two rounds though and that might have the judges liking it. Whatever the decision, that was a damn fun fight. Jeremy Jackson gets the deserved win from this.

    Chris Williams vs. Gil Castillo

This is the first "superfight" on this show. There seems to confusion as the referee stops the fight to check the cut of Chris Williams, and they seem to think the fight is over. The commentators seem to think the fight should have been stopped in the first round, but I thought Chris Williams was doing well to defend himself. The corner decides the fight is over when the round ends though, and Gil Castillo winds up getting the win. Probably the smart move as he clearly wasn't in the same league as Castillo, and he'd only have taken more brutality.

    Bryan Pardoe vs. Frank Shamrock

And this is the reason that people would have been watching this show. You don't rule out great fighters. I was thinking early "ooft, this isn't looking good for Shamrock" and Pardoe has him in trouble. But Shamrock is great, and he catches Pardoe with the Triangle Choke and then into the Armbar and that's the end of the fight via tapout. Was good to see that tapout there.

That show was all sorts of fun to watch.

  8. WEC 5: Halloween Havoc

Interesting show title. As long as we don't see The Ultimate Warrior vs. Hollywood Hogan, I'll be happy enough. The MC is wearing KISS makeup. What a joke. Needs to be noted I only have 45 minutes of this.

    Gabe Ruediger vs. Sam Wells

Crowd seem right into this here. Gabe was wanting to take the fight to the ground RIGHT away, and late in the first round we can understand why, as Wells just lands combo after combo and winds up getting the KO. Gabe looked absolutely useless when it came to defending the strikes and got punished for that. Wasn't a fan of the fight for four minutes, but that ending was quite good in it's own way.

    Chris Moody vs. Diallo Baza

The crowd are frustrating here. There's lots going on early in this fight, and the audience don't seem to give a shit about it at all. The first round is fun early, as both guys keep exchanging the top position, and are quite aggressive. As it goes on though, you can tell they're getting tired, and as such the round goes downhill pretty rapidly from there. The second round was ALL Baza, as Moody was fucked. Moody DID show some cracking heart by surviving a LONG choke, but Baza let go and just laid in and the referee stopped the fight. The fight went downhill at the start of the first, but mostly this was fun.

    Tim Kennedy vs. Mack Brewer

Brewer gets booed before things get going. This is a HELL of a short scrap as Brewer just goes mental coming out, and then Kennedy matches mental with mental when he escapes Brewer's choke, takes the back and just KILLS with rights and lefts and that's that. Too short to be much of anything, but damned if it wasn't fun.

    Richard Crunkilton vs. Victor Estrada

Another quick stoppage as Estrada is badly hurt in the ankle by the looks of things. Estrada had a cracking guillotine early after a big right hand, but Crunkilton did a great job of getting out and turning it around. He got a big takedown on Estrada and that appears to be where the ankle was damaged. Shame for the fight to be ended that way.

    Jeff Bedard vs. Antonio Banuelos

Bedard with an impressive showing. The fight was all Bedard right from the word go. Takedown and then a bit of a beating, and then the choke and then done. Banuelos didn't offer anything whatsoever.

    Philip Perez vs. Cole Escovedo

There isn't long on this video so I'd imagine this fight is going to be the same as the rest. This is a damn fine fight here while it lasts. Perez clearly wants to stand with Escovedo here, but it's Escovedo that winds up getting the better of those exchanges, and then he's vastly superior when it comes to the ground game as well. When it went to the mat, it was a matter of time before he got the tapout if it stayed there, and so it proved to be the case. This was a cracking round to watch.

Was weird to watch thanks to the shitty atmosphere. Was a lot of fun though thanks to the load of finishes.

  9. If everyone had to pick one fight as the "Best Fight Ever" what would you go for? I'm going to be boring and say Shogun/Lil' Nog. 7 years on and it's still the perfect example of how beautiful MMA can be.

Big Nog vs. Bob Sapp is up there for me. Wasn't even that long ago I seen it, and I was just captivated by it, and the tapout had me like "WHAT THE FUCK?!?!" while laughing my arse off.

    I love that.

Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva is also up there for me due to how mental I was for it. If I'm going purely for the best fight, I'd go Clay Guida vs. Tyson Griffin. That was special.

  10. The twist had me laughing as well, but I thought it was ludicrous. Thankfully the majority of the audience thought it was fairly funny as well.

I really enjoyed the movie actually and Michael Sheen is BRILLIANT. Pure ham from him at times, but it comes across more sinister than anything. And a "little more humour" doesn't really do it justice. It dawned on a full blown comedy at times. Really laid back when they got the opening lovey dovey stuff out of the way, which I think helped me enjoy it more.

  11. WEC 4: Battle Under the Sun

    Bao Quach vs. Jeff Curran

Good to see a familiar name right off the bat. He's using Fuel from Metallica as his walk in as well. Good stuff. Bao has NO interest in standing here, shooting right away and taking down. The first round goes that way. Curran fights out but Bao imposes his will and keeps the fight down there, but Curran really does a good job and even switches position at one point, when it looked like he was getting outclassed on the ground, but the round still belonged to Quach. Sensational second round from them and Curran edges it, but Bao showed a LOT on the ground, instigating a guard out of nowhere and some belting scrambling to get out of bad positions. The fans chant for WEC in the third because the fight IS that good. Terrific stuff from both guys both on the ground and feet in this fight. Third round is VERY good again, and Bao winds up in trouble because he looks for the takedown and goes RIGHT into Curran's choke. The third... well. Bao edged it I think. I dunno. VERY close. Superb fight though, and I heartily enjoyed watching it.

Jeff Curran wins. I'm not sure I agree, but it was VERY close.

    Mike Swick vs. James Gabert

Mike Swick! Really enjoyed the last couple of fights I've seen with him in UFC. Lets see what he offers here. The first round seen Swick COMPLETELY obliterate Gabert with all sorts. Elbows, kicks, punches, knees. He landed everything and Gabert took it all and didn't even go down, which is impressive in itself. Gabert had a cracking go in the second, but Swick was very smart, and didn't go for the strikes as often as he did in the first, but when he did, he landed, and did damage. I'd give the round to Gabert but only just. Gabert comes out aggressive as fuck in the third round and the fans LOVE it. As well they should. Swick continues to be very clinical in what he does, but with Gabert not going down, is that enough? Swick hands out a total pasting in the third, as if to say "yeah, it's enough". It was close, but Swick did more in the third and deserved it. A superb fight though.

    Randall Rowe vs. Jason Jones

Rowe is pretty popular here. Must be a hometown boy or something. The bell rings after the Triangle Choke and Jones then swings another big right anyways which causes a big shitstorm. I wasn't too sure what was going on there if I'm being honest. Rowe was fucking livid though and went right for him. Both fighters head for the back here. Okay... I'm not sure how this works exactly. There was clearly something horribly wrong with what Jones did, as the referee stopped the fight for whatever reason, and Jones decided to punch the guy anyways. So that was pretty deplorable, and he rightly takes a DQ loss as a result. What the fuck was he doing? It was a naw bad showing before that from both guys, with good domination from the top from Rowe while Jones kept busy and wound up almost winning the fight in the round. Then there was the moment of madness.

    Eric Mainai vs. John Rallo

A short battle here. John Rallo was an absolute beast right from the word go as he rushed Mainai right off the bat and landed some big shots. Mainai did amazingly well on the ground to take the initiative but they wound up on the feet again and Rallo just continued to smash Mainai and then the referee stopped it. Mainai didn't seem to be defending himself in the end and the commentators agree with that assessment, so John Rallo comes out on top in a fun wee fight.

    Chris Wellisch vs. Jay White

I have no idea what to make of this. The referee steps in when Jay White lands a big shot and down goes Wellisch in the first round. I'm assuming that the fight is over... so imagine my surprise when we wind up seeing out the round. What was with that?! I didn't think the fight should have been stopped anyways, but at the same time, if a fight is stopped like that, I thought it was over. Anyways, I'd give the round to Jay White thanks to how good he looked through it. How Wellisch manages to survive the second round is anyone's guess. I'd probably put it down to White's shots not having as much power as they did earlier because he was getting very tired pretty clearly. Whatever the reason was, White put on a hell of a beating and Wellisch just ate the lot of it up. Wellisch actually ends up taking the fight by KO in the third. He looked the more likely because White was completely knackered. He got the takedown and completed the comeback. It was a terrific fight, and amazing to see Wellisch come through and take it.

    Zack Light vs. Tony Fryklund

With more bizarro world officiating in this show, the referee steps in when Zack Light is in the arm hold of Fryklund. We can see the other hand of Light and he clearly doesn't tap and Light is absolutely livid, so it doesn't look like he verbally quit either. This referee doesn't allow the fight to continue and we have a "verbal tap" decision in favour of Fryklund. Zack Light had the edge in the round for me. Fryklund had the slight edge on the feet, but Light was just doing too much for him.

Mac Danzig vs. Kurt Pellegrino - WEC Lightweight Championship

There's some name value to be had in this fight! The commentators say that the opening round is hard to call. It really isn't. Danzig doesn't do enough on the bottom and Kurt lands the takedown early doors and stays in the more dominant position and keeps the control. So it's an easy first round to call. Unfortunately, it's the first poor round of the show as well. They tried to keep busy, but neither man could get much. The second round is much better and actually IS harder to call as a result, so I'm not gonna bother attempting it. Pellegrino seems to have the better of the standing exchanges, and both men do some good stuff on the ground. I particularly liked when Pellegrino managed to escape a triangle choke and take control of the fight at one point. The third round seems to be Pellegrino's for me. Once again, Mac Danzig doesn't appear to be doing enough for me, although he did look for the choke at one point, but it didn't go anywhere. Kurt Pellegrino winds up winning the fight on the decision which I'd say is the right call. It's not the best of fights here.

    Richard Crunkleton vs. Luciano Oliveira

I thought there was some fun scrambling and ground stuff from both guys here, but Richard Crunkleton was just insanely hard to keep control of and when he locked that Triangle Choke in, it was game set and match. Just a very impressive showing.

    Aaron Brink vs. Jeremy Horn

So this is the main event of the show. Jeremy Horn finishes things in incredibly short order, persistantly looking for the takedown and then when he did get it, he quickly got the back, got the choke and finished the fight. That's about as simple a victory as you're ever likely to see for someone.

So this was actually GREAT fun to watch.

  12. Frank Shamrock returns on a early show, I think that is considered to be the biggest of the pre-zuffa era. I forgot Olaf Alfonso existed, by some accounts he was meant to be a conman.

WEC 6 by the looks of things! Return of a Legend is that one, so it has to be Frank Shamrock going on what you're saying.

Only two fights into WEC 5 but I'm already enjoying it. A good showing from Mike Swick and a belting opener. This could be a fun ride.

  13. I wish I voted now. How the fuck did Frankie Boyle avoid the list? An unfunny cunt more interested in being EDGY!!! than anything else.

Anyone who says this is a twat.
I don't really have enough dislike for celebrities to complete a list. So in hindsight, it's probably for the best that I didn't make a list as it'd be half filled with people who I don't give a shit about. It's even better knowing a vote for Frankie Boyle would have been wasted anyways. Outside of him, Kay Burley and Jeremy Kyle, it'd be filler.
