I wonder if the Legends of Lucha figures were supposed to be Lucha Undergrounds line prior to them going tits up?

The craic is Masked Republic have the rights to release goods/Merch using the name and likeness of particular characters. Itā€™s pretty much exactly the same way Figures Toy Company doĀ business, agree a contract with a random wrestler not under contract and release merch.Ā They cover everything from clothing, board games and events, but only for Lucha themed wrestlers.Ā Proper figures are a new thing for them and they subcontracted Boss FightĀ Studio to make the figures.Ā
Speaking of which, hereā€™s some concept art for some new lines they have in the works.

  2. So now we have 2 sets of great looking Lucha Bros figures, from 2 different companies & manufacturers, with vastly different price points.Ā
AEW - priceĀ rumoured to beĀ $20 each:

Jeremy is interviewed on the major wrestling figures podcast this week and this point is raised. They just never thought about it until they seen Matel scale them when they released their figuresĀ

Yeah, I found his explanation a bit odd, considering ToyBiz weā€™re doing it a bit right with WCW figures in the late 90ā€™s, toĀ some extent at least anyway. The Giant was massive, Mysterio was small etc. Either way, itā€™s the standard now, so to not do them in scale would just look a bit cheap in some peoples eyes. Price point will be everything of course.

Are the Mattel toys scaled? My godson has loads but have never noticed any difference in heights with the elites or basics.

Jeremy Padawer is behind Wicked Cool Toys which is now part of Jazwares. He was in charge of Jakks's line from 2002 until it went to Mattel and he came up with the Classics line

And whilst I love the classic line, thatā€™s my point I suppose, all of those figures are the same height. In fact thereā€™s a Tazz figure which is bigger than Andre & Big Show.

To the company making these they probably are, that's my point. Just look at their products, they seem like an odd choice to go with and are nothing like those others you mentioned. But they obviously want a more mainstream company that can put these in toy shops all over the world.

Oh I absolutely agree with you on that mate. Very bizarre choice. I remember them making some absolutely shit Mortal Kombat figures in the early 2000ā€™s. Big clunky things.

  6. 5 minutes ago, Merzbow said:

They're childrens toys, the company behind them doesn't seem the type to be making super detailed exactly scaled figures. But yeah there's that choice with who do you market these at, kids or collectors.

They arenā€™t just childrenā€™s toys though are they,Ā thatā€™s like saying all video games are ā€˜kids gamesā€™. Their audience is full of adult fans for a start, all buying merch and collectibles.Ā Those figures areĀ aimed at everyone, from kids to adult collectors, much like mattel are with their limited edition 80ā€™s characters. Little Barry wants another Reigns, fair enough, but DadĀ Garry wants that limited Harley Race.Ā

I suppose when you have WWE/mattel producing figures with accurate individual scale/size, that sets a standard. ThenĀ you have smaller companies likeĀ the Super 7 teamĀ and the Legends of Lucha Libre guys followingĀ suit. Theyā€™re makingĀ sure they make their figures to the industry leaders scale, so that kids and collectors can collect/play with those figures & mix them perfectly with the other brands, it becomes expected that AEW will also do the same.

I really hope they have, and as I say, if they release further details about the specifics of scale and they are in fact in scale/sizeĀ with other lines (including accurate scale of their roster) then fair play to them. Iā€™ll 100% change my opinion, but Iā€™m basing my view on what theyā€™ve released so far, and as it stands the figures appear to be the same height as each other without any differentiation.

  7. From the images that have shared so far, the Jacksons are the same size/scale as everyone else. Thereā€™s no size differentiation. Again though, thatā€™s purely based on the images that they released. If they knock out some images of figures side by side and it shows a difference in scale, then fair play, Iā€™ll absolutely retract my point, but as it stands they all look the same size and Jericho looks like a youngster.

Diesel using Mad Dog Vachon's prosthetic leg as a weapon.

God I love Diesel's 1996 heel run so much. If the nWo didn't turn out how it did, it would have beenĀ a travesty to have beenĀ cut so short. Such a contrast to his bland smiling babyface persona that everyone seems to remember (and judge) him for.

I loved the simplicity of ā€œIā€™ll fist bump you if you buy my merch glove. Everyone else can fuck right offā€.

Ahhh, love a good painting session. My last lot were the Fallout minis:

I miss painting. I havenā€™t painted super mini figures in donkeys. The last thing I painted was a custom piece for a competition. The theme was Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat. Rules were to Make a customĀ and be as creative as you want. So I went with a hybrid of Blanka & Kabal (Kablanka).

Anyway, I made it a couple of years ago and swear by citadel paints for everything. I fancy getting back in to miniature painting, and was a big fan of necromunda redemptionistĀ & goliathĀ figures back in the day. Is there anything similar these days? Also,Ā are GM stores friendly with people who just want to go and paint, even if not GM products?

I was being a bit flippant, I'm not that bored, I've got all my old hobbies and I'd added more. I would be lying though if I didn't say that in the back of my mind a lot of the time is the thought "this would be better if I was pissed".Ā

Good work mate, and I absolutely know what you mean.
Itā€™s band practice for me. Iā€™ve been off booze forĀ around 18 months and Iā€™m far past the point of it bothering me, but I know for a fact that band practice and being in the studio is just so much better after 4 cans, saying that, itā€™s been about a decade since my last joint, and yeah, same applies, playing/recording music is just more fun when under the influence. Itā€™s less productive and the quality isnā€™t as good, but itā€™s defo more fun.

    Wouldn't go back though.

Are scraps a thing everywhere then? I've only ever seen them in Yorkshire chippies.

They were the protein portion of your dinnerĀ up here.

We called them scrapings. They were obviouslyĀ free and everyĀ once in a while youā€™d strike gold with the odd rogue fish bite that made its way in. A portion of those with chips wasĀ lunch sorted for a quid while at school,Ā and then go halves with your mate on a box of tabs with remaining dinnerĀ money.

Itā€™s no wonder I frequent the health & fitness thread for tips every week.

I'd definitely book a session in with a reputable sports physio. Even if it's just for a chat. I went to one a few years ago with a nagging back complaint. He gave me a few stretches to do. Which I do to this day. Never had a problem since.

Iā€™ve had physio on my knee before, and whilst it obviously helped, that was due to injury/post surgery. I suppose Iā€™ve never really linked physio to old man aches & pains, but more for proper injuries and the like. While I do stretch quite a bit, Iā€™m probably not doing exactly whatā€™s required, so yeah, will consider that, cheers.

  14. Over the past month Iā€™ve started to develop a knackered back. Aches and pains, always feels like it needs cracking, need to stretch it and what not. Itā€™s every day, regardless of whether Iā€™m boxing, at work, or off with the youngster. I do light Yoga stretches every 2 or 3 days (I could do more).

Iā€™ve had a proper high street masseuseĀ and aĀ back massage from my wife, neither have helped and now Iā€™m becoming irritated.Ā

Seriously considering going to see a chiropractor, have any of you been to one? Whatā€™s your experience?

I donā€™t know anyone who has and yet internets opinion ranges from high praise to reports of death, so you know šŸ™„
